  1. I own this one, and it has a recommendation for an older edition of this text book: The Sciences: An Integrated Approach. I think it would make a pretty complete science course if you got the text book.
  2. I agree with all of this and would add the book Science Matters for basic scientific literacy. It's a drier than Bryson's book, but it's not too dry to be interesting, IMO, and it lays a good foundation for understanding basically any scientific topic. I personally am reading it before Bryson's book, but you could just as easily read them together. I'm also doing as another poster here did and outlining a history encyclopedia to get the timeline straight in my own head. I'm reading my literature chronologically, too, to go with my outlining/history study, and I use SWB's adult history series for the history itself. HTH and I'm actually just starting myself...I'd be happy to do the study-buddy thing with you (and anyone else) if you are interested; just send me a PM :)
  3. I use a circa notebook for all of my self-study things, including the commonplace book. Eventually I will buy a leather cover for it and keep my current book in leather for aesthetic appeal :) I also use fountain pens.
  4. What I want to know is, where do you keep it? In a tupperware container on the counter? In the fridge? Where? I looked in the STOW AG and didn't see where to store the mummy-in-progress.
  5. Thanks, everyone! This was very helpful.
  6. Thanks, Laura. I get 1 for growled and snarled, but 2 for tangled. Am I just weird?
  7. How many syllables are there in words like snarled, growled, and tangled? Does the -ed suffix add a syllable? If so, do suffixes in general add a syllable? Thanks!!
  8. I personally think it would be overkill, but I know that some people *do* combine RS with other programs successfully.
  9. It's definitely solid and it's not hard to teach even if you're non-mathy. My own skills in arithmetic have skyrocketed from teaching it to my son, and his math skills are excellent.
  10. I likely would have eaten exactly what you did. I'm "normal" if that helps. I typically use bread plates instead of regular plates and heap up my food ;)
  11. Any of you ladies are more than welcome to send your unwanted books to me!!! (I think a couple of MIch elle's already live at my house, actually...) Don't throw tomatoes...I got lucky. My son's learning style is exactly the same as mine, so it's quite easy to choose stuff that works for us :) We could always use extra books, though!
  12. I am *SO* glad you warned against drinking anything while reading that! I feel sorry for whomever that was. Ouch!
  13. :iagree: While it may be easier to learn a language the younger you start, it's never too late. I took Spanish in highschool. When I moved to Mexico, it really didn't take very long to get comfortable living everyday life in Spanish. I didn't have any trouble distinguishing sounds.
  14. For anyone who would like to read the various scriptures of world religions, there is a great program called Ocean that is free, available here: http://www.bahai-education.org/ocean/ NAYY, I just like it :) It has a great search function, and you can limit it to your own scripture or search through all scripture. Scripture is included from the following religions: Zoroastrian, Tao, Sikh, Hindu, Judaism, Christian, Islam, Buddism, and the Baha'i Faith. Hope this helps someone!
  15. Yes. I hope he'd say the same, but I'm a little afraid to ask!
  16. This is just how we did it (but w/out ETC). I sat down with PP and RP and correlated them on paper...eventually they don't match up perfectly. I might still have that correlation somewhere, but it's been 3 years. I'll look, and if I find it, I'll post it to save you the trouble.
