  1. That is amazing, none of my boys write that good, and 2 of them are adults. LOL
  2. It has helped greatly to study ahead of my son, so that I can help when he has trouble. ;-)
  3. I printed it all out putting it in two huge binders ( I haven't hardly used the teachers binder, finding it easier to look online. Won't do that again ! ), then did away with the history portions as we have plenty of history. ( Every now and then we come across something from history, and just skip it if we haven't learned about it else where. ) Then we go Getting Started With Latin, because my son couldn't stand memorizing and not knowing why. LOL But we are back to LL now, and loving it. My son is blazing through 2-3 pages a day. When my daughter starts it after GSWL, I will just print out the worksheets that don't pertain to history.
  4. I think she would be fine too. My son (7) is doing FLL 4 after doing all the previous books.
  5. When you first start WWE2 they are doing copy work and narration. Read the story, ask leading questions, then try to get them to narrate. If they aren't getting it ask something along the lines of, what was the problem, what did they do to try to fix it, what happened in the end. It is pretty much spoon feed in the beginning. Later after much modeling, they start to summarize on their own, but we still ask the questions to lead them there, and to make sure they understand.
  6. We started with Song School Latin, cute but not what I wanted. Then I purchased Lively Latin, but it wanted my son to memorize a bunch of stuff without knowing why. So then I got Getting Started with Latin, and that is incremental explanations with daily translation of 10 sentences. Awesome. He got half way through it before going back to Lively Latin, I will let him finish that then finish the second half of Getting Started with Latin. He will likely get LL 2 then, but not totally for sure. He likes it, but I might find something I like better. I wish that GSWL had more levels. But there are a few choices on his website as followups. I am working on checking those out now. I am loving GSWL, and will go to Latin Book 1 & 2, then Wheelocks most likely. ;-)
  7. I have two kids so don't have specific times, as I work with them both at the same time. My five year old sits down and reads her Life of Fred, working the problems with help if needed, Does a fact worksheet of addition and subtraction, 2-3 pages of Math Mammoth, and reads aloud from Ordinary Parents Guide to Reading ( She is going back through just to solidify ), and reads a couple of chapters - currently from Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. Then she is off to play until after lunch. When we come back she does WWE 1, FLL 2, and AAS 2. Her brother reads history aloud as she colors, and they do map work together for SOTW. After they are done they do memory work for Lively Latin & GSWL( She is only doing the chants, to learn the words. ), FLL, WWE poems, skip counting, and geography songs. We usually start at 9, and she is done with morning work by 10-10:30 then we come back at 12:30 or 1:00 and done for the day by 2:00 or 3:00. She would probably be done in less than 2 hours, if she worked alone. We are working on her writing stamina.
  8. I have used them many years, and am very happy with the service. But I call, rather than wait and get surprise boxes in the rain.
  9. I usually call them, as I might get an email about delivery after my card is charged.
  10. We get up at 8 at the latest, the kids play for a while and eat before we sit down to start at 9 most days. My son does his Life of Fred Math, cursive writing worksheet, 2-3 pages of Math Mammoth, 2-3 pages of Lively Latin, writes a couple of paragraphs in his journal about what we did the day before, writes 10 definitions in his own words from the dictionary ( This one is at his request, he is a word smith), then he gets whatever books is assigned to him, currently At the Sign of the Sugar Plum and reads 4 chapters or for an hour ( I give him a 15 minute warning so he can finish a chapter, or decide not to start a new). Then we break, the kids go outside and play while I start lunch. This is almost always before 11 am, so I can watch Young and the Restless. LOL After lunch and the news ( so a 12:30 -1:00 restart ), we get back to it doing Story of the World, First Language Lessons, Writing With Ease and science. We are almost always done by 2, but some days work till 3. This is working with his sister ( 5 ) too, but he is getting pretty darn independent in the mornings, the afternoon takes more of my time. He gives his sister her spelling words or sentences. He has finished AAS 6 ( again he is a word smith ), so we just correct spelling in his daily writing. I have been at this a long time, I am the mean mom that expects work done without slacking. We do play hookie a lot when the weather isn't steaming in TX. ETA: We school Monday through Thursday. Friday is for anything we missed, science experiments, Mapping the World with Art, and Artistic Pursuits, or anything else we come up with to do.
  11. If you wrote a check in September you shouldn't have spent that money. It really isn't up to you when the landlord decides to cash it. A check for October shouldn't have been written if you didn't have the money to cover it. Seriously this is your mistake, and there is no fault at all with what the landlords did. It isn't their job to ensure that you managed your money correctly before they cash a check written to them.
  12. We go as slow or as fast as needed. We do a pretest to see if we need to do some work, if we do we go through the lesson. Reviewing the cards for rules daily. We do the words usually in one day, reviewing a couple times in the week if needed. Breaking the dictation down into the rest of the days. We have never spent more than a week on a step, but have backed up to a problem lesson a few times. Sometimes we get up to 5 steps done in a week. It's all done by skill.
  13. FLL can be started and time, as it is done orally. I recommend about half way through OPG before starting spelling.
  14. High School dropout here, I do have a GED. Hubby is a High School Graduate, no college.
  15. For my son it is better if he reads the passage, he just doesn't hear me when I read to him. Sigh!
  16. Getting Started With Latin is cheap $9.99 on the Kindle, it is parts to whole, translation from day one. It isn't flashy at all, but would be a wonderful introduction to any other program. And a low cost way to see if your daughter will even want to continue with Latin. She can do it all on her own, in just a few minutes a day. It has wonderful explanations. I have not seen Latin Alive, so can not comment on it. I recommend it to everyone as a starter Latin.
  17. I don't order from RR to save money, I order because they have more of the stuff I want in one place. I almost always do expedited shipping, and hardly ever do the free shipping. Amazon Prime has me soooooooooooooo spoiled.
  18. I think my language loving son will love it. Not sure if the rest is a good fit, so will start with this and think about the rest.
  19. Thanks, it has been a long day. Not sure why I didn't think of that.
  20. I want to try out just the vocabulary for starters. I know the first level is Building Language and Teachers. But for the second level are there 3 parts? Then it mentions and updated version. So tell me what I need? Caesar's English I, Classical Education Student Caesar's English I, Implementation Manual Caesar's English I, Student book Caesar's English I, Teachers book Then there is ... Caesar's English I, Classical Education Edition (In Two Parts) 978-0-88092-464-9 So what the heck do I want? Someone tell me. I don't want to purchase the whole kit and kaboodle right now.
  21. My son blazed from Apples to Goldfish. I have had him back up and go through them again as recommended to me. It is amazing how much more he is getting out of the second round. We school 4 days a week, and he usually does 4 lessons in a week. ;-) I am good with that, as we are supplementing right now. He can always back track a bit again and work them again.
  22. My son is soon to start FLL 4, I don't know where to go next. I like the idea of all of them, I need some help choosing. What do you love? Something else? A combination of these? If he helps he is a word smith and gets almost anything to do with language really easy. He is not the best at narrations, but can get them done. He love diagramming, and dictation. His reading comprehension is wonderful.
