  1. Thanks for the info! What Flyleaf books and MCP books did you end up using? Do I really need to invest in the whole set of books for both or do you recommend some over others?
  2. I too would like to start my 6yr old with Singapore and LOF, but where would we begin in each program? She's had some Kumon workbooks but I've heard Singapore for 1st grade is much harder than the kindergarten one. Can anyone recommend what books I should get from both singapore and LOF that would compliment eachother as far as content? I'm okay with doing the kindergarten books since I have younger kids that we could try them with anyway...
  3. My DD6 is half way through OPG and loves to write, yet we haven't started any spelling or FLL yet....She's on lesson 99 in OPG and just began 1st grade handwriting in a ZB workbook. Are we behind for her grade level? I think we'd be further along if there were more readers that "fit" the lessons of what she's learned already. Would the "books to remember" from Flyleaf work out better than Modern Curriculum Press? Can't decide which to go with and she's bored with Nora Gaydos and Bob books :( I just need an idea of whether or not we are making progress or need to change things up a bit? Thanks!
  4. I can't remember where on the Well Trained Mind website it said at certain chapters of Ordinary Parent's Guide to begin First Language Lessons and begin a spelling program. Does anyone know? Somewhere on the site it said that FLL and OPG coincide at some point... Nikki
  5. Thanks everyone so much for the input. I love the tip on using gel pens too! My DD is crazy about girly pens right now so that will work out nice :) Going to research all your suggestions now and hopefully I can make a decision. Thanks again!
  6. Thanks so much for the ideas! Checking out all of your suggestions right now :)
  7. For those of you who have kindergartners who'd rather color, "write" stories and create things than sit in a chair doing repetitive handwriting, what did you use and like best? So far I can't decide between Handwriting without tears, A reason for handwriting, or the zaner blozer curriculum. Any others I should consider that may be better? Thanks!
  8. My kindergartner is currently going through the Ordinary Parents Guide for teaching reading and we have read through the first set of bob books, but I'm noticing that the rest of the bob books don't really coincide with the lessons taught in OPG. I was considering Modern curriculum press beginning reader books, but wanted to know if there's anything out there that would go well with the OPG, and maybe not as expensive as MCP books? Thanks!
