  1. i'll be honest. that term gets on my nerves. so does the term "spirit filled". imho, it insinuates "we" are the real deal, as if other churches are not. my sister-in-law always references these types of terms, and her basis is whether or not people are shouting and dancing in the aisles. through her eyes, our church is not bible based or spirit filled. (not to imply that all others using these terms define them in the same regard)...just expressing my experience. it just doesn't sit well with me.
  2. here are some that we use... http://www.crayola.com/lesson-plans/ http://www.artprojectsforkids.org/ http://www.dltk-kids.com/ http://www.dickblick.com/lessonplans/videos/ (these are great video lessons) http://www.theteachersguide.com/Artlessonplans.html http://www.thetoymaker.com/ (click on free toys)
  3. i bought the book & we do not use workboxes in any similar fashion. so for me, the answer is no. the book wasn't necessary. it just depends on how you want to use them though. mine are more-so for organizational purposes, as opposed to promoting independent work though... so the ideas in the book didn't really apply well in our situation. i found the best ideas at the workbox yahoo group and on youtube. hth.
  4. ugh...i'm not so kind to my walls... i used a staple gun.:001_unsure: ...but, they aren't in my living room or anything. they're in our school room, where i have lots of "stuff" mounted on the walls.
  5. i am using the exact same combination with my son (6 1/2)!!:D HOP K & CLE LTR are the perfect combination!! my son is just about to start LU 104 and he's about 3/4 through with the K book (his was mostly review, since we incorporated it last year as well). i cannot believe how well each program reinforces one another! we're loving it!
  6. this is us too. my son did HWT for kindergarten & and for math, he used making math meaningful. we read a lot of books! we also dabbled with hooked on phonics. it was pretty laid back, but he learned a lot imho. this year, he has a much fuller schedule, but it still only takes about an hour or more a day & he's coming along wonderfully.
  7. without sounding like a total ding dong...how do i do that?
  8. honestly, i'd just talk to her. i didn't feel like you were seeping with judgment in reading your thoughts, so i imagine in person you will come across even more gracious. no worries. just talk to her:grouphug:
  9. i met my best friend in math class in 9th grade. she'll be 40 next month!:D we talk every day at the cracka lacka dawn.
  10. i like truffles. i also like this chocolate that come in a triangle package? i can't think of the name (i think it starts with a T and the package is yellowish???), but it's like a triangular candy bar. it is awesome!! ETA toblerone!!!!!
  11. maybe it's the rebel in me, needing to keep that kit-kat all to myself.... or maybe it's the relentless pig in each member of my family that forces me to live this double life. either way, i can live with myself.:D
  12. LOL. my kids eat junk, so they certainly aren't deprived. my mother in law lives next door to me & happily stuffs them full of it daily. i hide stuff on the top shelf of the freezer that every.single.person in my family got to partake of & enjoy. i just didn't want to eat mine then, so i put it up for when i do want to eat it. if i just left it laying around & told everyone not to touch it, it would become such a pain in the neck. i'd rather hide it & enjoy it on my own terms when i feel like eating it.
  13. i have another account here. it has never been used & it has zero posts by me. i had originally signed up using another username that i go by on other forums i frequent. but then i decided i wanted to be different and use a "new" user name here (because i'm so adventurous, lol). i never deleted my first account though. can i delete it? how do i do that? i hope this makes sense!
  14. sometimes i hide treats in the top shelf of our freezer. otherwise my family would eat them all. i can graze on sweets though, (unlike my husband and kids....they're sweet treat hogs). so i choose to save mine by hiding them. my secret is safe here i hope!:D
  15. okay. thanks again! i had her do megawords today & she loved it! i think i will use that alongside simply spelling (when it arrives). i had planned to use it in 4th grade, but it seems very appropriate for her now. plus, she also does WWE 2, which has dictation as well...so with all of this....wow! she should be a great speller before long, lol. oh. we also played a peggy kaye game today (games for writing). it was called the silent game & neither of us could talk, only write to one another. this was very helpful and gave me a lot of insight into her spelling/writing...so we'll do some more of those games for sure. plus... she loved it!! :)
  16. this is us. we also read together at night. usually he reads one of his CLE or HOP stories to me. then i'll read a few chapters to him, and we do a bible story too.
  17. everything is going very well. the only thing i'm shifting around is my daughter's spelling program & her writing program. i just added R&S english for her & i just purchased simply spelling. she's not complaining about anything we've used, it's just me trying to find what will best meet her needs and develop growth in those subjects. with my son, i've not really tweaked anything. it's all a great for for him so far!
  18. thank you both! i found it used for a great price, so i bought it. i love the idea of spelling being more than a just a list of words. my little girl can currently memorize words for a "test", but will misspell those same words in sentences. i thought simply spelling could help alleviate that. we are currently using the super teacher worksheets level C spelling lists (which she actually loves!), but i don't think she's growing with it. plus, they have no spelling rules listed. in doing some research, i came across simply spelling. i love that it uses dictation to teach the words and includes spelling rules (which is why i leaned more toward this program than spelling wisdom). we also own megawords 1, so i could use that alongside simply spelling as well. is that too much though? do you use both programs daily? how do you schedule those in your week??? thank you again!:)
  19. yes, i prefer virgin coconut oil on my face too, but i love olive oil for the rest of me!!:D
  20. anyone still using this and loving it?? i'd love opinions please! thank you!!
