  1. i honestly think it's a beautiful name! i would assume it was pronounced like the artist. i like unusual names though. our original choice for my daughter's name was agnes dei, and we were going to call her dei for short (pronounced day). we made the mistake of telling people & they hated it! they kept sharing their opinions with us. my husband was swayed by their hate and i finally caved. my son would have been iris if he were a girl. i say don't tell anyone & stick with what you love!
  2. i usually wake up fairly happy & somewhat rested... i need coffee still though. i don't feel anxious or nervous. by mid day i feel tired.
  3. i'm embarrassed to even type this. i like the vampire diaries.:o i watch it on hulu.
  4. well, i have an opinion about this, but it's not something that gets me heated or upset. there's nothing in this thread that i haven't heard or read a billion times before. i especially like apologetics and/or evolution vs. creation debates, but not in a setting like a homeschool forum, where tempers flair and opinions fly (although this particular thread has been very kind!). i prefer actual debates, where specific topics are addressed and there are rules of conduct in place. those are awesome!
  5. definitely true. there are many christians that do not subscribe to a young earth theory. not to mention, the countless other faiths that believe in their own version of creation & how the earth came about.
  6. we use some religious curricula, but that's just preference. i am open to secular resources too. as for teaching our faith, i don't currently use a curriculum. we just have family devotions & our faith is naturally part of everything we say & do. having said that though, my daughter will be in 4th grade next year & i am *thinking* about including bible as an actual subject. i'm looking at CLE. we'll see though.
  7. i also believe the earth is about 6,000 years old. you don't need to talk to your pastor though ...there are books and resources you can actually read that support this.
  8. we've not taken any, but i know currclick has live classes for this age group. http://www.currclick.com/ just click on the live classes link on left ....they have semester long classes and short session classes. maybe one of these would be of interest??
  9. me too!:D plus, you can cook with it! and even eat it for weight loss! lol. love that stuff!
  10. my husband is doing it right now with a man from our church. they're only in their 3rd week though (and the entire second week my dh had the flu!). the first week he could barely move. he said he's never sweated so much in a two foot space in his entire life. one of my best friend's husband does it, and he looks crazy unbelievable!! seriously, he looks like the people on the commercial! as for me, i'll stick with running, lol. p90x is definitle not for the faint at heart.
  11. sure. my kids love shows that i enjoyed when i was younger (and still enjoy most of them now too). punky brewster, leave it to beaver, andy griffith show, silver spoons, and of course little house on the prairie. my kids also love tom & jerry, strawberry shortcake, care bears, and smurfs. i could probably think of more. but i'm going to bed now. i'm tired:) oh. pippi longstocking! i watched that movie when i was in elementary school & my kids love it too! there is a newer pippi longstocking movie that they love as well.
  12. when is the festival? as halloween gets closer, the candy will become cheaper (at least it is here). we aren't home for halloween, as we're at our fall festival too. i always leave a bowl of candy out for the trick or treaters though. i buy it the day of halloween (well...this year our town is celebrating it on saturday, since halloween falls on sunday)....so, i'll but it on that saturday. it is very cheap if i can wait til the end. perhaps it is the same in your area???
  13. oh. i thought of another one! remember the show, solid gold! i also loved american bandstand on the weekends. of course, i loved all of the previous shows mentioned too.:D (1971 baby here). i wanted to be julie on the loveboat.
  14. HR Puff n Stuff Electro Woman & Dyna Girl Sigmund the Sea Monster Land of the Lost ....pretty much anything by Sid and Marty Krofft
  15. i really like "you cannot lose my love", by sara groves we used this for our graduates video a few years ago at our church. you can hear the song here...
  16. do you remember bill cosby & the cake skit?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRmN4KnfPxQ
  17. my kids eat halloween candy for breakfast the day after they get it. growing up, my mom never let me have halloween candy for breakfast. i'd of course say, "that's not fair!!!!". her response was always, "when you grow up and have children, you can let them do whatever they want". so i do! candy for breakfast every.single.year.:D
  18. i tried to do an advanced search for this, but i can't find what i'm looking for. i'm thinking this might be great for my son in second grade (next year). he's learning to read now, but it looks like that's okay for starting this program. i'm try to understand what all it entails exactly though, and what justifies the high cost. can you lead me to an old thread, blog, website, etc. to help me understand what all is included. how long does it take each day? is it a full LA program?? i looked on homeschoolreviews.com too, but again, not a lot of info there. TIA!
  19. yes. that has been my experience as well. it really bothers me because i believe in the Bible, literally. we aren't liberal & we don't rearrange the Word of God to meet our lifestyle. rather, my husband and I apply it to our lives in ways that most people find incredibly conservative and radical. to simply assume my church isn't bible based or spirit filled based on the fact that it's of the methodist denomination is judgmental of my SIL. she has never even visited our church, and her brother (my husband) is the worship pastor. it really hurts his feelings. my experience goes beyond my SIL. i have encountered this attitude on several occasions. i don't understand it.
  20. my daughter used handwriting without tears. her cursive is beautiful, and it was very quick to learn. i know there are many other great programs, but HWT was excellent for us. i plan to use it again with my son down the road.
