Thats what I was going to say as well. I watch 2 little ones in my home 4 days a week and besides having to get up at the crack of dawn (I am not a morning person!), I think its great. I dont quite hit $500 per month, but its close now that I have started doing preschool with the 3 year old. I imagine I could always watch more or get certified and then it would be more profitable. :001_smile:

My oldest son went to ps kindergarten. Three of out of 5 of my adopted children attended ps as well until I told the social worker that in order to know for sure if I could handle things, I had to be able to homeschool all of my children- even my potential children. :001_smile: So they let us use a ps charter school where we only had to meet with a teacher 2 times a month. Otherwise, that is it- and unless something very serious happens that I can not foresee, that is the way it will stay. :001_smile:

Well, its been 14 years now.... The first year or so, we used a ps charter school, then about 12 years of "unschooling", and we have been doing WTM for about 6-12 months. I say that with approximation because we moved this past year. :001_smile: Its a bit more structure than we are used to LOL but we are getting the hang of it.

Check and see if they offer homeschool days. When we lived in California, I used to organize homeschool field trips to Sea World when they had days for homeschoolers. The tickets for the homeschool presentation are significantly cheaper but doesnt allow entrance into the park. Then they offered a discounted all day ticket as well. Maybe the one in San Antonio does this? Just a thought. Good luck! Edit- I was looking on the Sea World website and the San Antonio site does not offer a homeschool day but the one in CA does. =( You could always call them and ask them if they would consider having one.

I have to agree with this! We also live in one of the most beautiful places on earth and although I havent noticed the tourists, we cant wait until the parks and lakes will once again be less crowded just from what I suspect are mostly locals taking advantage of their vacation time. That is definitely a perk to hsing! I have to say- that I am very happy to be able to buy the things WE need and not whats on those lists I see in the walmart. I had no idea though that everything was put into a mutual closet and redistributed! That would really upset me. And again, why are the Trapper Keepers banned? It really makes me sad to think of the way the children are being unindividualized. I can remember being excited to have my new notebook and backpack as well as being excited to see what my friends would have as well. And I agree with the pp who said that it seems cruel that the store has all these wonderful accessories available, but a majority of the children wont get to use them. I wish I had a dollar for every time someone told me, "oh, I couldnt do that!" Im sure that there are some psers who might be thinking "Im so glad I dont homeschool because of x, y, and z." And everyone has their own challenges- pser or hser. However, I am so grateful that we homeschool in August and all year long for many of the reasons already given. I am NOT a morning person and I cant imagine trying to get all my children off to their 3 different schools by 7am or whatever time they start around here. I am so glad that we can ease into our day instead of having complete chaos trying to get everyone ready and out the door. I am thrilled that I have my children with me 24 hours a day. That I know what they learned that day and that the time left remaining in the day not schooling is time we can spend doing whatever instead of hours more of homework. I encourage my children to be themselves and we dont worry about fashion around here. They can have that unicorn pencil bag and Tangled notebook (when they come out with it :)) or a cars notebook. I can decide if we need something and if we dont. I always commend ps moms, and tell them I dont know how they do it. We homeschool for a variety of reasons but one of them is because I just cant tolerate the idea of someone telling me what my schedule is going to be. My sil sends my nieces to school. This year they will be in K and 2nd grade. She put on her facebook that they dont want to go. I feel bad for them that they have to. I love my sil to death, but she is one of those people who say that they just dont have the patience. But she does have the patience to do a couple of hours of homework with them in evening. :confused: I wonder if she realizes that she could "do school" with them in that amount of time, maybe a little bit more. I dont know. When my oldest son was 5, he went to kindergarten at a ps. We got lucky because he had a great teacher. I volunteered in the classroom alot because I originally wanted to homeschool, but due to a divorce, he ended up in kindergarten anyways. While helping in the classroom, I watched as the teacher would review a worksheet and then send them off to their desks to complete it. She did that about 3 times a day. Then she would read them a story. Once I saw this, I realized that I absolutely could do this myself and not have to be away from ds so much. Considering we were adjusting to a horrible split custody arrangement, having him with me as much as possible was definitely a plus!! So anyways, thats just my .02 worth. My youngest asked me a couple nights ago if she could go to a "regular" school next year or when she got older and I said no way!! She asked me why not. I told her because I love her way too much to let someone else teach her and raise her all day long. This ofcourse has been my thought all along, but someone on WTM put it this way and I agree!

I posted a link in a pp with the link. I know this is probably way out there as far as planning goes, but for me if I dont plan it, it wont happen. I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in going to this next summer? I think it would be fun to create a study group- there are books that have to be read prior to the workshop and then we ofcourse would meet there. Anyone think this is doable? I know for us, I would definitely have to start saving NOW considering the workshop is $925 and then there is the plane ticket and accomodations. Im not sure if I would want to stay on the farm but there is a little time to figure that out. At least the $925 includes most meals. So, what do ya think?

Oh my gosh!! I feel really dumb- I had NO idea there was such a thing as the AANC. So I hope I dont sound too ignorant when I ask if that doctorate rule would apply to midwives? And how in the world are you managing? I am enrolled for 10 credits this semester and I am freaking out a little since I havent been in school for something like 14 years!! YIKES!! Where I live, if I decide to go the RN route, I have to have a CNA just to apply to the program. Which I plan to do next summer, but I just have a concern that I wont be able to manage it all. I also work 40 hours a week babysitting out of my home 4 days a week, and homeschool, and then do all the other wonderful womanly stuff. I was going to just take one class to ease back into school, but when I looked at my transcripts and realized that I am not that far from being able to apply to MCU, I decided to get a tiny bit more aggressive. :bigear:

A friend recommended Bastyr to me as well. I would have to move to make that work- unless they have a distance program?? Isnt there a school in Vermont run by an Elizabeth somebody?

Ofcourse, if dh doesnt have a different job, it wont be possible anyways. Unless I get the scholarships.

I have heard of frontier before and really wanted to do their program, but the RN requirement set me back on it. Maybe I will look at it again and change my mind. =)

I have been contemplating this for YEARS!! I am starting back to school this fall. I cant decide if I am going to just do the RN or go for my dream of being a midwife. I have looked into midwifery programs and found a distance program at Midwives College of Utah http://www.midwifery.edu Has anyone else heard of this school? I want to shoot for their bachelors program. I am about 14 credits away from being able to apply- 9 of which I will be taking this coming semester. At one time, I was only short 2 births for doula certification. MCU requires doula certification to graduate so.... the only thing is that the credits obtained at MCU do not transfer. But anyways- its nice to see others with the same dream! BTW- one of the reasons why I cant seem to make up my mind is this: I told my mom I was going back to school for midwifery and she said "where will you get a job doing that?" Followed by, "maybe in the back woods where you live they still use midwives." LOL So with that, and employment being what it is these days, I thought maybe I should do the RN and then get my BSM later. But the more thought I give it, I know that nursing is not where my heart is which might sound weird.

How about a childs magazine? Or if she is into horses (or whatever), a horse magazine?? My youngest ds9 said he didnt like reading once. I told him then he doesnt know what books are then. =) As a child in ps, I hated reading because we were forced to read a book a month and had daily discussion groups about what we read. I had to relearn to love reading as an adult and I did that by reading magazines. When I was pregnant with my first born, I received a Parents magazine sample and became hooked. Thank goodness for junk mail!

I will agree with the other posters and say 60kg is NOT fat!!! I am 5ft 3in and that is my goal weight! I recently lost 10 pounds and man is it hard! But I just wanted to join in and say you are definitely not fat. Baggy clothes do tend to make us look bigger. Being asked 3 times in one day if you are pg when youre not certainly would shake anyone up though. :grouphug:

There isnt something put out by the church that I ever saw, but there is a wonderful and very thorough curriculum out there.... I think its called the Four Year Plan by the Egberts.

As for Mormons, almost all of the born again Christians I have encountered consider Mormons NOT to be Christians. I know this because I have spent hours, when I considered myself LDS, trying to get them to understand that I was a Christian.
