  1. I really like Christian Liberty Press readers ( can read on their own) also liked NOEO science at that age too! http://www.logospressonline.com/noeo/ http://www.shopchristianliberty.com/christian-liberty-nature-reader-complete-set/
  2. Sand trays Bean/rice bins Dry erase pages (make a binder and print off pages and put in a protector sheet). I used mazes, trace pages, dot to dot....etc Books on tape!!! (My lifesaver! ) Magformers Puzzles
  3. I used this many years ago I wouldn't stress over finishing a page a day since he is in Kindergarten. But use it as a guide and focus more on correct form and try to get him do several well...not just trying to get the page done. Depending on where he is at and his stability you can also do other things to get the form down before writing like write in the air until he has the form down and then use his pencil so he is not too tired out and does his best.
  4. Thank you all for your posts and taking the time to write! I appreciate all of your comments since I am in new territory. Blessings to you all!
  5. Thanks for the info! Will pass on to him. He took ACT once a couple of yrs. ago but scored about the same on his SATs. Not sure if he wants to take another one but I should get him to try since it could save him a bundle!!
  6. Thanks for the info! We are in VA too but not sure if he'll get to 1500 which is what you need for their full ride. But full tuition isn't bad...thanks for the info on the area!
  7. Yes, I am seeing that. sigh... I do hope he will take it again to try to get to the 1500 mark...not sure that he will though he is burning out. :( UAH does seem to have good scholarships at least tuition would be paid for what he has currently in scores. Anyone have any student attend there? I am pushing towards mechanical engineering because of more job opportunities and then he could specialize more for his masters. I do agree!
  8. Thank you everyone for your comments! I am going through them all now. He wants to do aeronautical engineering but you know how kids are and how much they change their minds! I had given him a very liberal arts education and his SAT scores show it! He got a 750 on his Lit section and only 710 on his math even though he wants to go stem. :-P I'm not sure if this will be high enough to get really good scholarships we are hoping for at least all tuition paid. He probably will only be commended for the merit scholarship but of course won't know for sure until Sept. our state is tough!! Anyhow, I want an university that will cover all areas in case he changes his mind!! We had assumed he would go to Liberty since that is where he has always wanted to go but they don't have specialty engineering just electrical, mechanical, etc. I keep thinking he should just go there and focus on a generic engineering program and then jump into a more specialized field for his masters. I think he would be happier at a Christian school. He will have about 56 credits done before graduating which is nice but than again if he does go to the engineering route only half will probably count. :-P! Thanks again, can't wait to search all of these!
  9. We have had good success...my son took Government with their online class last year and plan to take American History and American Lit through them this year. They are SUPER nice and very easy to work with, I highly recommend!
  10. Thanks for the ideas but wanting to stay away from APs....thanks though!
  11. Trying to narrow down our colleges we plan to apply, but having a bit of a hard time and really it will come down to money! Was wondering if anyone has had good experience with certain colleges that give good scholarships based on merit scholars, SAT scores, GPA, etc. (NOT based on a financial need doubt we would apply here but can't afford to give him much for college. :( Thanks for any advice! I am drowning over here! :willy_nilly:
  12. Thanks for your suggestions...will keep digging....was hoping someone had used another college around for these subjects already...
  13. Funny, I started that thread but can't find courses that offer the classes listed above...that is why I am looking to see if anyone took these courses elsewhere. Thanks though, I didn't have luck with that school.
  14. For those of you in Georgia, Truett McConnell is free but for us who are out of state it is $100 per credit which is a steal for where I am at and we have had great luck with them too. Guaranteed getting into a class unlike Bluefield where you have to wait. :(
  15. They are a Christian school, however anyone can take the courses. Never asked me about my religious affiliation.
  16. So I am looking for an online option that doesn't cost more than $200 per credit hour for Calculus I & II and Chemistry with lab. Our CC cost $200 per hour and is not much to be desired. I can't seem to find many courses online that offer these for dual enrollment. Any one have experience here? Thanks so much!
  17. Bumping this up to see if anyone has found any others they like? These are so much better than our CC. We had great success with Truett McConnel U. last year as well! Any others? I have heard of Troy University and Embry Riddle U. but no experience with either two any body??
  18. Wanting to add a good book to include for part of our health credit this year for my boys and was looking for a good Nutrition book that you would recommend. One that discusses healthy eating, and the reasons WHY...or anything that you would recommend teaching a child how to eat well. Thanks!
  19. I used it this past year and LOVED it! If we were not switching to the Alveary we would be doing this next year too, unfortunately she doesn't have the levels all ready for the ages of my kids next year or I would have hung on. But what she has done is great! I need some time focusing more on implementing our curriculum not coming up with it this year since I am focusing on my oldest with scholarships, colleges, etc. :-P If you have any specific questions let me know but I found it very helpful and we enjoyed it. FYI we used: 1st grade Literary Worlds and the Book of the Romans (for my 8th grader last year)
  20. I totally agree!! You need to meet their needs now and provide the best education to prepare and if it counts as both great otherwise don't worry about it!
  21. How funny...my son wants to go in that field too and we have been debating where he will attend and is looking at Embry Riddle, Florida Tech and Liberty (cause that is where he always thought he'd go but if he goes this way will have to do a basic engineering class). Has your son taken classes online at Embry Riddle yet? I know they allow kids to start in 10th grade. Everyone I spoke to recommended taking Chemistry dual enrolled in high school while they could concentrate on it because that is one that they use to weed out early engineers. So I would try to squeeze that in somewhere, of course depending on where you go whether they transfer credits or not. I would try to line up as closely as you can the degree requirements for the college he is thinking on attending but really they could change their minds so many times that I have learned do what they need now and if that will apply for later great if not no harm done. :) In regards to number of credits, I would stick to lower than 60 some places are funny like that in numbers but to be safe check where you want to go. I had no idea my son was going into a stem career and I had given him a very liberal arts education. Ha! you just never know, but at least he is coming in able to write well! Good luck to you and your son and enjoy the ride! :)
