  1. Looking for a good workbook that has lots of practice in the following areas (need an answer key :-). My son has used Shurley English through elementary and has done My Mother's Tongue. This year he is taking a HS course and doing great particularly in writing except with these areas and wanted him to work on them but not sure where to look? Any suggestions greatly appreciated!!! He has taken several IEW writing courses as well. subject verb agreement pronoun agreement who/whom
  2. I have heard of many of these, unfortunately many are not accredited by main accreditations such as ACSI, SACS, etc. Has anyone heard of North Star? Was wondering what curriculum they used? Thanks for your inputs!
  3. Looking for options for next year, my husband really would like an accredited program instead of the hodge podge I put together each year even though it is the best curriculum. :-) I haven't found one particular curriculum or school I like for their whole package. I have always done a little of this and a little of that. Anyone know of any good challenging programs out there? Thanks!!!
  4. I have used Veritas online for a couple of years now and it works good for us. My son is very smart as well and gets things pretty fast. I have had trouble with him being lazy and not wanting to do much but the minimum, so I know how it can go. Veritas online (VP) has been good for him because he actually gets a grade and feedback from someone other than Mom....The Omnibus classes are good for alot of reading, comprehension, and discussion. If that is what you are looking for than Omnibus would work... There is some writing which consists of a couple of papers during the year but it is not a big writing class. Hope this helps and good luck!
  5. I would rather have him do dual enrollement but I wasn't sure how many credits he can take before they would consider him more of a transfer student? He is planning on playing locally until he is of age to graduate officially anyway, I was just wondering about the eligibility for him and if there is a cut off for how many college credits he can aquire. Thanks everyone!
  6. Cassie- Sounds like our kids are much alike. Hopefully we can glean from the older and wiser ones around here. :-) We have planned to do the same it sounds like. Just don't want to mess up his NCAA eligibility and at the same time not encourage his desire to finish his masters by the age of 21.
  7. Maybe I didn't make myself clear in regards to him playing baseball in college. I know academically he is ahead but I don't want to hold him back academically and he is motivated to finish early. I want to let him try for an athletic scholarship when he would actually graduate by age. My main question was if he could take college courses as much as he wanted would he still be eligible for NCAA requirements for playing when he becomes of age. Does this make sense? Thanks guys! My head is spinning.....thanks for all your inputs!!!!!
  8. Sue, and what I am gathering for others. He can take as many college classes as long as we call it "dual enrollment"? Even if he takes 2 years of college we can just use that as extra classes on his "high school transcript"? NCAA would be okay with that? I would like him to attend the university for four years he really would like to finish his master's by the time he would have been if starting at a regular age. Thanks so much for all of your comments!!!! Things to think about!:)
  9. Any recommendations? I hate to just spin our wheels and just have him "take courses" when he could be taking the same ones in college and getting college credit and not having to double the expense. Thanks!
  10. My son is only 12yrs. old but is more like a 9th grader and is moving at a fast pace and it has become hard to hold him back with his academics. If he continues he could "finish" high school 2 or 3 years early. I have talked to some colleges about him taking courses early and they are ok with it but I have to worry about him and his athletics. He dreams of playing baseball in college and I am not sure of the NCAA requirements and if he could be eligible when he turns 18 yrs. old to play for a college if he has already finished 2-3 years worth? Would this work and does anyone have any experience? Also, when trying to play sports for a high school team would I try to have him play with the kids his own age like where he would be normally grade level if he wasn't ahead? Hope this all makes since. Need some advice and peace!!!! Thanks so much!

  12. Looking for some relief next year for my soon to be middle schooler. He has been a self learner pretty much the past couple of years. I am due to have another baby in April and am looking for curriculum that is classical where I do not have to oversee as much. Was looking into this and it looks pretty good but wondering what luck people have had with it. How challenging are the courses? How much time or homework goes in for each course per day? Any suggestions appreciated!
  13. Thanks so much for all of your ideas...I haven't heard of some of these suggestions. I am excited! Thanks so much!
  14. I am at a loss, and needing of assistance!!! I am trying to find a history curriculum that doesn't take a lot of prep time. I am having most trouble with my oldest who is in 5th grade and gifted. It has been difficult finding the right curriculum that challenges him and moves at a reasonable pace. I also am looking for something that will finish in a four year cycle. I have used easyclassical in the past but it just is too simplistic and I don't feel enough at his level. It includes Veritas Press which I don't feel is enough. I have looked into TOG and it looks great content but I don't have the time to figure all of that out (have a baby on the way), MFW looked great in regards to it's layout but looks to simplified. Any help out there with gifted kids would be greatly appreciated!!! It has been tough finding the right curriculum for him. Uhh!!! Thanks so much for your help!!!
