  1. My son has really wanted to study Astronomy and we are looking for a Christian centered online Astronomy course that would be close to college level. He has had Pre Calculus and all sciences for HS so looking to fill in a science until taking college Biology. I have only found CLRC online and Scholars Online that offer but the times of those classes will not work for us. Any others? Thanks!
  2. Thanks for the info! Good to know for Derek Owen users.
  3. Thanks for all of your posts! Hoping this will be a great resource for those who want to go for the dual enrollment route!
  4. Have you tried this yet? We had thought of it but decided on Bluefield since the cost was considerably lower. Let me know how it goes!
  5. Great to know...thanks! I do know credits at Bluefield College (where we have taken some) are good for all state and private schools in VA where I have checked. William & Mary, University of Mary Washington, Liberty U., UVA.
  6. Others I know of that have not been mentioned: Scholars Online - www.scholarsonline.org Cornerstone Tutorials - www.cornerstonetutorials.com Rolling Acres School - rollingacresschool.com Liberty Tutorials (math) www.libertytutorials.com Potters School - www.pottersschool.org
  7. Working on my son's book list for next school year. Thought I'd see if you all ladies have any ideas for me as I gather my thoughts. My son's interest is in government, philosophy and religion. If you know of any great classical well written books I am all ears! Thanks for your time!
  8. Not to derail and I don't like "computer programs" either and am very book based however.....If you need something exciting to add for learning to read, I would say try Reading Eggs. My son learned how to read at 3 by himself some how but I did not teach him anything. When he was 4 my sister is a kindergarten teacher and told me about Reading Eggs so I let my son play with it about 4x a week for no more than 20 minutes. He was hooked. Since then, (he is now 4 1/2) he is beyond a 1st grade reading level and learning all of those special sounds through that program. He LOVES it and begs to play but it is amazing how much he has learned. I would not use it as a stand alone when really needing to get into all of the phonics work but it is a great way to see where they are at or what is lacking and good reinforcement. There are many great programs out there for K/1st but in essence you really need to see what your goals are and then go from there. I love MP Enrichment program and Recitations. OPGTR is a great resource but not exciting to do on it's own but great to make sure there are no gaps. I use it as a guide as to what needs to be taught (special sounds etc) and then play games, write with chalk, white board, etc. Mix it up to make it fun. Ambleside Online is one option of great books that can be read there are SO many lists out there to round out your Kinder year with sciences, history, etc. FWIW~ But if you want an all in one option where there is no planning on your part and it is laid out nicely as to what to do my pick would be from what you describe is: Memoria Press K or My Father's World K (not sure if she would be ready for the 1st grade yet). Good luck, we live in the era of too many choices! :)
  9. Unfortunately for some of us where public CCs are offered the courses are $400 a class which is close to some of the other online offerings. I know for a FACT that Bluefield College offers courses for only $135 a class not course! I can't find it cheaper anywhere else unless it is free! :) We have taken 2 courses at Bluefield and like it well but need a few courses that I haven't seen them offer like Astronomy so looking at other providers.
  10. Too kind.. Wouldn't it be great though to have a good list as a resource when we are trying to plan. Thanks for the suggestions!
  11. Yes, thanks for clarifying for me! :) I didn't realize Scholars Online had any AP. Thanks for listing the others, had not heard of some of them.
  12. While I'm on it....can we list all dual enrollment online providers, (not looking at local community colleges.) If you have used or liked star in your list! Thanks! Bluefield College Liberty U.- Edge Cedarville U. Belhaven- High Scholars Taylor U. Bryan College
  13. Can we compile a list of all accredited AP online providers. Searched the archives and couldn't find any....I'll start from what I know. Feel free to list favorites or star them in your list. :) PA Homeschoolers Veritas Press Wilson Hill Academy Potters School North Star Academy Keystone philfour.com Derekowens.com (Calculus)
  14. Thanks everyone, very helpful....any others? One question for govt./history/lit/psych. classes I noticed that they offer one day where there is a live aspect to the class can you all tell me how this has gone? Also, debating next year on how many APs and dual enrolled. How do you feel the rigor is in regards to time spent in class? Is what they list on their page about right in time spent each week? Thank you all!
  15. Not here....I just got his online scores about a week ago. :-(
  16. Would love to hear your child's favorite AP class from PA homeschoolers. Thinking of taking a couple and debating whether to dual enroll or try some of their AP courses. Thanks!
  17. How awesome, never knew of it and researched and we have it at our library as well. Great resource, thanks for sharing!
  18. We finally can see his scores.....yay!!! :hurray:
