  1. By the way, this isn't for the current baby we are awaiting, her name will be Savannah Juliet. This is for a hypothetical 4th girl. Can't use: Jade Joy Juliet Janelle Jean Jennifer June
  2. Yeah, dw is concerned it might be too much, even though we love both names. My thinking is middle names aren't really known for most people. Most of the time it would just be Liberty or Liberty J.
  3. I was looking on Amazon.com at the first book of Spelling Workout, and I noticed the People Often Buy These together section. They had it, along with FLL 1, and SOTW 1, all for 29 dollars and some change. Good deal? Or nothing spectacular?
  4. Liberty Justice Goodwin? If not, feel free to suggest other middle names that start with J. :)
  5. Beautiful name. Dw was having pretty regular contractions last night, and we talked about if we have a 4th of July baby, we would probably give her another middle name of Liberty. As it is, if hypothetical baby number 4 turns out to be a girl, we will possibly name her Liberty regardless.
  6. I may be mistaken, but I thought something I read said it talked a little about evolution in upper elementary grades? Like maybe 3rd or so? I may have misread or confused it with a different curriculum I was looking at.
  7. Hmmm... At what point do they each get into diagramming?
  8. OOH. I really like this - except for one thing... the illustrations. I would prefer they were photographs. And it looks like they teach evolution in the higher levels, which is fine. We don't believe in macroevolution, but want our kids to be knowledgeable about it.
  9. Is there a first grade level text that covers life sciences? We don't really want to use a bunch of different resources like is suggested in the WTM for this if we can help it. If it matters, we are young earth creationists.
  10. Is FLL as rigorous and intense as R and S? We kinda like the idea of R and S, but would like something more scripted. We will be starting in first grade, but hoping to get something we could follow all the way through 5th or 6th grade, or even higher. So basically, I guess we are looking for the most academically advanced and rigorous curriculum that is scripted, and not too expensive. :)
  11. WTM methodology or the curricula recommendations, either. :) Thanks everyone!
  12. I was curious how close everyone here sticks to the plan and/or curriculum laid out in The Well-Trained Mind? I asked this in a different forum, and most people seem to use WTM for inspiration, and ideas, but not actually follow it that closely.
  13. I like Big Truth's for Little Kids. It has verses you can memorize as well with it.
  14. I was homeschooled my junior and senior year. I wish I had gone to public school the whole time. My grades could have been good enough that I could have been valedictorian, and got a full scholarship to a good college. On the other hand, had that happened, I probably would not have met my wife, joined the military, etc.
  15. All of this makes me continue to be glad we are using MM!
  16. It looks to me that is just about exactly where I would want a kid to be with a subject that isn't necessarily their favorite. If they were too high, too low, or if he was showing boredom or frustration then you may want to see about changing your speed or curriculum. But for him to test about 1 level above grade level, better than 85% of his peers, and have no complaints or real struggles with the work seems perfect. Now, if he were a super-mathy kid, or was too bored or complaining with it, then you may want to go faster or get something more challenging. :001_smile:
  17. Who has kids doing some kind of martial arts? How old were they when they started? Which martial arts do they do/have they done in the past? Do they enjoy it? Why did you choose that particular martial art?
  18. Good for him! I am not sure what you mean by "free-range parents." Have you only taken him to the same martial arts school? Perhaps he would like a different style or something better?
  19. I'm not sure, sorry! The code is applied before any payment info is entered, so it is worth a shot. :)
  20. LOL. DW and I have gotten comments that we are like a sitcom couple.
  21. GoDaddy.com is having a special for their domain name registration. All you have to do is enter coupon code "PATRIOT1" at checkout. I now own http://www.realtonygoodwin.com, which is my blog. It is still hosted at blogspot though.
  22. Hey now! I have lived in Hawaii a little over a year, but Texas for about ten years. :P
