  1. I'm more than happy to share. I won't get to it for a while. Things are busy right now. When I get some time I will post it here.
  2. DS did level 1 in 3 or 4 weeks, level 2 in 4 months, and level 3 in 4 months.
  3. I agree on speeding it up if it is moving slowly for you. We do that here, too. We've gone through almost 3 levels since late June.
  4. http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=254581 This issue came up just last week on another thread: Here are a few posts I wrote on that thread. I mesh Connecting With History (rc connect) and SOTW this year. I'm not sure exactly how it will work next year.
  5. Yes. we use the textbook, workbook, IP and CWP as a supplement to RS. I wait to cover a topic in Singapore until it is taught in RS.
  6. Since funnix is so inexpensive right now I'd get funnix 2. My DS1 didn't have anything after 100EL for 2 years. He just read and read. AAS has continued to improve his reading even more. DS2 is on 36 in funnix beginning reading and I love it. He does, too.
  7. We started AAS1 in June. DS flew through that doing two steps a day at times. I also combined some of the steps. Level 2 and 3 have each taken four months. I usually take 2 or 3 days per step. My son doesn't need much more than that. This is typical of Level 3: Day one: yellow cards blue cards 10 green word cards I have him use 4 of the green words in a sentence that he creates. Lesson for that step Write the 10 new words. Do the writing station activity Day Two: Red cards blue cards 10 green word cards I have him use 4 of the green words in a sentence that he creates. Write the 12 dictated sentences Sometimes when we haven't done as much spelling as I'd like to be dong we will do day two above and the lesson for the next step. My son can handle doing a lot on one day and not doing spelling for 2 days. I'm so glad, because that is how we're doing everything right now.
  8. I'd only supplement if he wants to. I have a DS like that. I'm getting ready to do MEP, because he's burned through Singapore.
  9. I didn't have time to post this before, but a lot of the memory works is what my dad did in Catholic school in the 50's. When I read the WTM for the first time, I repeatedly put the book down, called him, and asked, "Did you do ______ in Catholic school?" (memory work, latin, copy work, dictation, etc......) The answer was always yes.
  10. FYI: The foundress of AL is married to the founder and president of the Cardinal Newman Society. I thought that was pretty interesting.
  11. Tacking on another ? Since I use RS as my spine, should I get the 2A/2B HIGs??? I never used my 1A HIG since I teach from RS.
  12. I bought 2-4 used. Adoremus sends out a coupon code around Easter and they have it. If you get on their email list you will get it. I'm waiting to by 5 until then.
  13. Thanks everyone. Yes I remember reading to avoid that one. I'll get the new ones now. I was pretty sure this was Singapore. It is similar to all of our other Singapore books.
  14. I bought this one for our first grade year. I see this one on Adoremus Books. I see this one on CBD. Is what I bought even Singapore? Which of the others is the most recent edition? Thanks
  15. I just saw that St. George sells it also. When I've ordered from them before, media mail orders were free shipping.
  16. I'm tacking on another ? to this thread. I was going to get some R and S grammar workbooks to reinforce FFL. My DS1 is a workbookaholic. After reading this thread I looked at Seton English FYC. I'm not a Seton fan, but it seems as though it would fulfill my need. Is it as good as R and S? Does anyone have input for me on this? Thanks.
  17. Catholics and Orthodox believe that the sacrament of baptism initiates the person into Christianity and that they are Christians. Whether the person lives out a Christian life is up for debate. This is a theological difference between Protestants and Catholics. I understand why she put it in there, because she is Protestant. It is a line I will skip over to prevent planting any false conceptions about our belief in baptism. I don't mind talking to my children about the notion that many of those in that army probably didn't live out a Christian life and relating that to people in our own culture that do the same. I tried to answer this without starting a whole tangent discussion and without offending those that believe differently. This could derail into a host of conversations on once saved always saved, what defines a Christian, etc......I hope I accomplished that:)
  18. If you are talking about this book, I can tell you when it comes in the mail. I just ordered it last night.
  19. I have many days that I do only one subject. It usually is, because the toddler is teething, escaping, or potty training. My son doesn't balk much. When he finished RS A and took the final test, I could tell he needed a break. I gave him a week off. I started in June and plan on schooling year round, so I'm ok with taking days off here and there.
  20. THANK YOU NAN!!!!! I had never heard of Cornell notes. My DS was shocked. Needless to say our children will learn them.
  21. I started last June after my DS1 finished K at school. We began w/ RS B. After lesson 24, he wanted more book work. We added in Singapore 1A. I have the HIG, but I don't use it since I 'teach' from RS. He finished RS B in January. We moved on to RS C. He's done w/ Singapore 1B and is finishing Singapore CWP and IP. He wants me to order 2A, but I've decided to incorporate MEP and Miquon after that. I like the idea of hitting concept from different programs, before charging forward. He's already doing RS C as it is. I ordered Singapore Early Bird for DS2 and did NOT like it. I plan on ordering him Essentials the next time I order books from a store that sells that. Good luck.
  22. Not only is it indeed sufficient for phonics, it is a very well done and thorough phonics program.
  23. Hi, We recently got a Roku player. There is a classical music TV station. Last night I found a performance of Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No.1. I saw some other shows on Beethoven, Bach, and Mozart. I wonder if there is anything like this on instant netflix.? Just wanted to share:)
