I used to watch that show with the 2 British ladies who would come in a filthy home and clean it up. Wish I could remember the name. 1 of the ladies really freaked me out because she'd do all kinds of crazy things, like swipe her bare finger under their toilet bowl rim to show how nasty it was. EEK!!!! I always wondered if they kept their houses clean post show or not too. -
PSA Turn on your self-cleaning oven now!
luvbug in Ohio replied to Familia's topic in The Chat Board
I cleaned mine about 2 weeks ago, and it blew a fuse. My husband replaced the fuse, but it turns out it also caused a short of some kind, so now the oven is acting crazy. It turns itself on and runs, the clock won't work, etc. It will probably cost more money to fix than it's worth because it's so old. So now we're oven-less until we can buy a new one, probably next month. Yay us! Lots of meals cooked in the crockpot, on the grill, or on the cooktop for us, looks like. I'm going to my grandparent's house to borrow the oven to bake my pumpkin pies today. Thank goodness I don't host Thanksgiving dinner yet, we still go to our paren'ts houses for the holidays. -
I don't like it. As someone with very severe dog allergies, and asthma, I can't tell you how it drives me crazy to see people with their dogs in stores. I can't even get into my best friend's car because she takes her dog EVERYWHERE with her, so even if she does leave her dog at home for me, all the hair and dander left behind closes up my throat almost immediately. I mean, I get you love your dog and all, but guess what, I love the ability to breathe even more! The one exception to this would be a pet store, I would expect to see them there, and so consequently I never go to those kind of stores. But Target, or Kohl's or something? I think it's extremely selfish and unnecessary.

I always loved my great-grandmother's names, one was Alice and the other was Bonnie. If I'd ever been blessed with a daughter, she would have had one of those names. I also like Virginia, Ruby, Clair, Ellen, and Violet. My middle name is Lorraine, I always liked that too. My grandma's name is Mildred, but she's always gone by Millie and since she's the sweetest grandma in the world, of course I love that too. Funny memory. With my last pregnancy we were tossing around names. I was considering Adrienne, because I remember a sweet older lady by that name from church, and plus I just love it. But my dh was like no way, people will go around saying "Yo Adrienne!" like the movie Rocky. Turns out he was a boy anyway, so no Rocky impersonations here lol.

Another vote for Dress Barn. I was having a clothing crisis earlier this fall, and Dress Barn was recommended to me by this forum. I've been back several times now, and I always find lots of things I like. I actually purchase whatever's on sale, and I've slowly been building my wardrobe again. And I appreciate how helpful the sales clerks are.

"Cheater, Cheater" by Joey and Rory cracks me up. Well, I should say it used to crack me up. I haven't heard it since she passed away though.

My only experience with Tamiflu was HORRIBLE. We started our son, who was 13 at the time, on it per our doctor's suggestion. It was expensive, but all that the doctor said was how it would really help, he neglected to say anything about the side effects and how bad/common they are. My son, within hours of taking it, was OUT OF HIS MIND. I mean, delirious and saying stuff that made no sense. He was flopping around and falling out of his bed. I leaned over him, trying to help him drink some gatorade, and he picked up his lamp and was trying to drink from it, rather than the bottle I was holding. At one point he had some delirium and was fighting off an imaginary person. Scared us so bad we took him to the emergency room (which was no picnic as we all had the flu as well) only to find out that it was in fact the Tamiflu. Never again. Never never. Ever.

What has been your experience? I've always bought new ink cartridges, but I feel like it's such a rip off when I hear about friends of mine that just go to Costco or wherever and get their cartridges refilled for way less money. One time, I went to Cartridge World and bought one of their cartridges, took it home and used it and within a week our printer quit printing. Had to go buy another printer, and we'd only had that one for about a year. Could be a coincidence, could be not. So what would you recommend? Keep paying astronomical prices (we print a lot of stuff), or take another chance?

I love the Parent Trap! Not the later version though, only the original. What part did your aunt play? -
Any ideas for clothes for particular body type?
luvbug in Ohio replied to luvbug in Ohio's topic in The Chat Board
I bought an outfit at the Dress Barn! Yay! It's cute as it can be. Dark grey leggings, and the cutest blue and gray top. I love it! The clothes are my size in petite, well made, and modest, so I won't have to wear a tank underneath. And, I got them off the clearance rack. The pants and top together were just 30 dollars. I'll take it! I'll be on that side of town again in about 2 weeks or so, and fairly regular after that. If I can find a little something every time I'm there, I'll eventually get what I need, and all without blowing the budget. Thanks Hive! :cheers2: -

When I was a child, maybe 5 or so, I was on a popular show in Cincinnati. It had Captain Wendy, or something like that??? It's been long gone now, but I remember it being a pretty big deal during that time. They had local kids on their show all the time, so that was neat to get to go. I wish I could remember the name. The man and his wife-the captain-were kind of celebrities in this area. I met Naomi Judd once,in some kind of home goods store. It was in Atlanta, in '96 or so. She was as hateful as she could be! It was a small crowd there to see her, and she was mean to everybody apparently. When it was my turn, I was nervous and said something lame like nice to meet you or something, and boy, if looks could kill! She actually refused to say even a hello back. So I was not impressed. I've never been able to stomach her folksy gimmick she's got going on since then. I've met John Boehner a couple of times. He was always nice and friendly. -

In my opinion, the truth is always better, even if it's hurtful, or upsetting. That doesn't mean you can't deal with it. I would always rather know the truth than live a lie. And for the record, I went through this. To me, it was about taking ownership of the situation. -

Ktgrok, Thank you! It just so happens that I'll be right near a Dress Barn today, so I'm stopping in for sure! That sounds like the perfect place. Ohh, I'm so excited! Wouldn't that be awesome if I could find a few nice, well fitting outfits, so that at next Sunday's basketball game, I can show up looking comfortable and happy,(and not like a Sherman tank) and keep my mind more on my son's game which is what I want to do anyway??? Thank you again! -

Thanks, ladies. I'm going to look in to these suggestions. VaKim, that's it exactly. I don't want to a bunch of cutesy girly stuff! My nieces look cute in that, but then again they're 13 and younger. On someone my age, that would be just plain creepy, lol. I also have a problem where by the time I find something big enough around to fit my bust, the neckline is waaaay too low. Ugh. Carol in Cal, that Sherman tank look is kind of what I had going on the other night. Double ugh. I'll look into those stores you mentioned. Solascriptura, I like how that sounds, although I'd probably ditch the belt. That's not an area I want to draw attention to, ykwim? Some cute jewelry and shoes, though? I could do that. Ottakee, I don't have a Belks around here. I wish we did! I just recently realized that I should be buying petite. I used to ignore that section of the store, because I thought there ain't nothing petite about me! lol It's probably obvious I feel out of my element in a clothing store. I give up in despair, and end up buying shoes and purses instead, because I hate how I look in the mirror. I've even lost a large amount of weight in the last few years. And I think that's why I'm so unhappy now with how I look, in a weird way, because when I was heavier, I didn't look in the mirror at all. Now I'm actually trying. On a positive note though, I just realized I'm not 45, I'm only 43! I'll take it! lol -
I'm running out of ideas! And clothes! I truly don't know where to go for help. I need to buy some clothes but every store where I've gone and tried some on, well, let's just say it was disastrous. I don't shop online, because even if I see something I like, I know once I get it, I'll hate how it looks on me. I don't even think I'm all that picky, but maybe I am. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. Here's what I need -I am short-5;2,top heavy, and will never have flat tummy again after having my children. My rear, along with the rest of me, is bigger than I'd like so I would never wear leggings or anything without a top that was long enough to cover it. All of this right here makes shopping a little harder, imo. Also, I don't wear tank tops in public. I'm just too heavy for that. -I would like something modest. I don't like how most tops these days are flimsy and see through, so you have to wear a tank top underneath. I am already too hot, so the layering of clothes makes me feel like I'm having a heat stroke. Not a pretty picture. -I would like something age appropriate. Ya know? I'm 45 now, I don't want to dress like a teenager, yet not like grandma either. I want pretty! -I have to keep an eye on the budget. Sale items are great. I can splurge only a little. I'm feeling ready to cry, because I can't seem to find anything and I'm literally running out of clothes. I had to go to my son's basketball game the other night, and all I had to wear was some old stuff that I've had for...idk...maybe ten years now. I was hot, sweaty, uncomfortable, awkward, and miserable all evening. Ugh.

Could someone share how to make your own elderberry syrup? I'm interested. We usually spend a lot of our winter sick, seems like once one of us gets it, it just gets passed around-and around the family. I'm always hit the worst, due to an already compromised immune system. I'm so glad I read this post today! Now I'm inspired to take some precautions! I think I'll make the elderberry syrup, order some vitamins, and stock up now on items like tissues, vick's, sprite, etc. so that if we get sick anyway we're not running out to the store for those things. In fact, if I do have them at home, I'll definitely be more likely to not need them, knowing my luck. Lol -
Who's going to tackle Monday with me?
luvbug in Ohio replied to Jean in Newcastle's topic in The Chat Board
Good morning! SKL, I hope your day is better than your night was. I hate those freezing/sweating to death kind of nights! I'm not feeling all that great either, but I'm pushing through. Let's just say I CAN"T WAIT for menopause. -morning time -school -have to run more errands than I'll probably be able to, because I haven't felt well enough to go anywhere for the past couple of days. Kroger and Michael's at the least. -probably lay around with the heating pad, popping some Midol -have dh pick up some pizza on his way home and call it a day -try not to cry over every single thing like I typically do. Even the cheesiest, sappiest commercials bring me to tears while "my curse is upon me". -

Luvbug, the Right Start place value cards are great for that age. Thanks for this tip, Scout. I'll give them a try. Clearly, I don't have this quote thing down... lol -

Good morning! I woke up today feeling great with lots of energy, hallelujah! -morning time which is coffee, Bible, computer, meds, breakfast, and more coffee -school. Try to see if I can explain the place value chart in a different way so it clicks with my 6 year old. -make a couple of phone calls, business type stuff that I dread and tend to put off, for some reason -do all my coupons and grocery list for shopping tomorrow -take a walk-my favorite part of the day. Yesterday on our walk, a kind older gentleman who lives a few doors down stopped us and gave me some flowers, just because. How sweet! You never know what will happen on a walk! -dust and sweep the master bedroom, change the sheets -water all my plants -I don't know what I'm going to fix for supper, maybe dig up a new recipe this morning. I'm feeling like something for the crock pot, but idk. I'd do pinto beans and cornbread or fried potatoes, but I didn't soak any beans last night.
