  1. I dropped Writing Strands 2 and Complete Writing Lessons for Primary Grades...still waiting on Write Source 2...making due with Write Shop Primary for now, but I don't love it. Ordered GWG...Rod & Staff 2, which we were/are using, although I love the program, my son HATES it and isn't retaining much and the Biblical names are difficult for my just emerging reader. I am keeping it, but going to try GWG for the rest of the year and then move to Grammar Island for 3rd, maybe....I didn't think he was ready now. On another note, I added Evan Moor Daily Geography, didn't think we needed a Geo program outside of SOTW maps. I was wrong, clearly. I haven't totally ditched Saxon, but MM2 has taken over for now. I like some parts of Saxon (like the explanations for some problems), but my son really likes MM, so we're in a holding pattern. It's my first year hs, so I'm just getting a feel for his style, my style and managing life thrown in.
  2. Are you low on vitamin D? I only ask b/c I was extremely low and was having bursitis in the hips as well. I took steriod packs even and they didn't help. Once I go the bloodwork back, I started 50,000 units of Vit D, it disappeared in 48 hours. I did that for 2 months and now take 2,000mg daily as maintenance.
  3. Try eBay for the GAP ones. And, also try Levi's they have all different sizes and would be cheaper than the GAP.
  4. Thanks! P.S. great job on the WW! 'm not on WW but have lost 22lbs and am working on the last 10...they are very pesky....
  5. Disclaimer: I am a Waldorf Rebel and I let my children color with black crayons and listen to recorded music. I also teach reading and math way before pure Waldorfians would think appropriate. I love the fairy tales, crafts and general warm fuzzies that Waldorf offers so I blend that with my families more academic leanings. This sounds like our family!
  6. Thanks for your response! I certainly don't want to rush her. I do want her to explore as she wants to now. She's my last baby, so I'm happy to have her play the extra year with the fall b-day. She says she wants to learn to read, so we've been working in OPG in the last 6-8 wks. I just want to challenge her without going overboard, KWIM? She'll be 5 in about 6 wks.
  7. So, as we research options for DD for official K next school year, I have been reading about OM--all good things. I looked over the K curriculum scope and she seems to already know most of it, if not all. She knows the main phonograms, all of the letters (upper & lower), can write all uppercase and most lower case (she attempts all by some look a little wonky). She can sort by color, shape, etc and can count to 100. Do I start with OM K or would 1 be better? I don't want it to be too hard for her, but I want to challenge her. I also am considering starting it now but lightly even though she attends church preschool 3 hrs a morning 4 day/wk. They are NOT an academic based school, but it's our church, she enjoys it and it gives me a chance as a newbie to teach my son one on one. Can OM be used easily when teaching more than one? Or, should I cobble something together for her like I did DS? Bless you if you're still reading!
  8. He knows b/c I incessantly tell him, every day! I have lost 22 lbs and I'm trying for 9 more, so every 6 oz I am excited about!
  9. I've never sold books on ebay, but have sold a lot of other things. I always put "No returns accepted. All sales final."
  10. I was not into it, wasn't going to do it, couldn't wait for the kids to go to school so I could have a clean house, work out every day, great dinner on the table every night...etc  BUT, it's amazing what God presents to you when you have no other options. It has been a HUGE blessing for us in every way and I am so thankful that we've been afforded the opportunity that we have. My son is truly blossoming. While I can't say I know we'll do it forever, I'll do it as long as I'm called to.
  11. We do the Daily Geography Grade 2. It's SUPER easy, I probably shoudl have gotten Grade 3. If you do it all in one day, it might take 15-20 minutes. It takes my son about 3 minutes a day if we do one every day. I usually break it into 2-3 days and use it when I need to fill gaps like pulling towels out of the dryer before math, etc.
  12. This happened to us today too, but the water is in the walls from the attic to garage. We have a home warranty company, insurance company and a/c compnay involved and still NO A/C upstairs. I am grateful for cooler nights and a/c downstairs. Hang in there! :grouphug:
  13. Leveled Readers. Good stories, we've enjoyed them and they've been GREAT for fluency. http://www.rodandstaffbooks.com/list/Pathway_Readers/?OVRAW=Pathway%20Readers&OVKEY=pathway%20reader&OVMTC=standard&OVADID=22184735012&OVKWID=205687107012&OVCAMPGID=4508635012&OVADGRPID=8541300400&OVNDID=ND2
  14. Sounds good to me! I'm not too far off for 2nd grade DS Saxon Math/MM (we're in transition) AAS 1 (have 2 as well) R&S Grammar---he doesn't like it, so we'll see if we jump ship to EG or GWG WriteShop Primary B & WWE 1 OPG (1/2 way thru for review) & ETC (I started on bk 2, which he's done with in 3 wks for review) Daily Geography SOTW 3 RS4K Pre Level 1 Chem right now...when we're done, we may go to RSO b/c we want more experiments! Memory Work LOTS of reading!! Daily Poems, Pathway Readers, science books, history books, scuba books, whatever non-fiction he wants to get him reading more! He also like MTH for fiction.
  15. Honda Accord. We've had ours for 11 years. It has right under 200K miles on it. Runs and looks great STILL.
  16. We like the readers too! I have the workbooks, but don't use them. I do ask him review questions, but he has enough grammar, spelling, writing, etc from our other LA programs. I will buy the 3rd grade set as well, I'm sure!
  17. Thanks Beth, I appreciate it! I have to wait and save the $$ to buy it. I may check the library, I've found some curriculum items there!
  18. Do any of them 'sort of' align with SOTW 3?? I am struggling in the art area!
  19. ETC is a great supplement. We use OPGTR and ETC for phonics. He does 2 front/back pages per day and we're getting ready to finish book 2 this week---he struggled so I wanted to review. It takes him about 5 minutes. We should complete at least books 2-5 during 2nd grade, which I see by signatures is behind many, but I want to plug all of the holes that ps left last year! The 1/2 books are more review of the concept taught in that particluar level.
  20. We love AAS. We're 1/2 way through level 1, first time homeschooler. It is not independent, but it has worked great for us so far! The only extra thing you need is the magnetic whiteboard. I got one at Target for 17.95 on sale, but if that's out of reach, you could do it on the table top OR check freecycle or craigs list for a cheaper one--thrift stores and garage sales too. My son doesn't *LOVE* using the tiles on the board. He wants to take them off b/c they're eaier to slide around to build the words.
  21. :bigear: I like the RS4K, but it needs more experiments. When we finish with Chemistry in 5 more weeks, I was going to go to Bio, then Physics. Now I'm thinking you might be right to do the bio for the rest of the year and add in the RSO for more experiements and hands on, but still have the Rs4K text, which does a decent job explaining things.
  22. Which schedule do you use? Three wk, two wk or 1 wk plan? I just got it in the mail after ditching Writing Strands, so I wanted to see what others are doing/have done. It's book B if that matters, 2nd grader. He is extremely creative but hates the physical act of writing. We also do WWE 1, so I was thinking WWE on T/TH and WS Primary B on M/W/F but I don't want it to drag taking 3 weeks on one lesson.
