  1. Whew--thanks guys! I am hoping that I'm doing this right, it's the first time I've been nervous about teaching my kids anything...afraid I'm not doing it 'right'? Whatever that is~LOL~
  2. Let me know if I'm screwing the narrations up! I have no idea if I'm doing it 'right!':lurk5:
  3. I'm using OPG and ETC. The phonics instruction at my ds's ps last year was not very strong though. Also, we're using AAS for spelling, which also has a phonics component, although not a phonics program.
  4. DH is a den leader in Cubs. He seems to love it and it's a great way for him and DS to have guy time.
  5. Hey! I officially have 4 school days under my belt and it's been going good, but I have a question on the narrations. For STOW, I read the section and ask DS the review questions from the activity guide. He responds then I ask him to narrate the story back. He's REALLY struggling with the ordering. He gets it all, but not in order. So, I'm writing it all down, then we go through and put it in order together, while I write it out. Should I then have him copy it? He is a struggling reader and has sensory processing issues, so we're working on handwriting a lot in grammar, wwe, science and hwot, so I don't want to overload, but I want the narrations to serve their purpose, so am I doing it right?? Also, in WWE narrations (level 1), I am asking him the one thing he remembers from the story and then writing it on the board and having him copy on the student page. Is that defeating the purpose? HELP!:bigear:
  6. Mine went pretty good too. Although I am a little lonely and the house is a mess, the kids are great! I'm sure I'll get used to it!
  7. I'd make mini pecan pies...but that's just me...the only thing worth the calories besides chocolate!
  8. You can purchase (by the yard) black out liner material (JoAnn, Hancock fabric, etc). I got 3 yards for like $12...and I have half left over after sewing (could use the stitch witchery stuff--iron on if you don't sew) them onto my roman shades in our living room. It has worked wonders to keep afternoon HOT sun out!
  9. I guess I wasn't around when this started, but I've lost 18 so far! I have 13 more to my goal weight! I'm just calorie counting and working out 3 days a week. I also take B-12 and Vitamin D, but only b/c they both were severely low when tested at the Dr.
  10. I got the ones at Target...they were $19 regular and have been $10-15 on sale. They're not high end furniture, but they're doing the job. Definately return those and get your money back!
  11. I do something similar for my SKINNY boy. I run an extra peice of elastic at the waist and then stitch it in the back. Works great! For my DD, Gymboree or Hanna Andersson works the best.
  12. I am glad I learned something today! I thought that octopus was a word like moose that is the same plural/singular, but then again I don't remember the rules and we haven't gotten there yet, so there you go! :tongue_smilie:
  13. I'll bring a seven layer dip, homemade salsa and chips! I'll also bring hockey sticks and puck for the kids to play street hockey and cornhole boards with beanbags for the adults! Fun, Fun!
  14. We're doing SOTW 3 this year with a US History focus...I'm not sure what to use either. I will go look at SL now! I am thinking of using Zinn's book (b/c it tells another perspective) and The Patriot's History book (where I would read) and then of course have living history books. We will also cover all of the U.S. Presidents through the gold rush, even though some didn't do that much. I'm working on it, I will let you know what I decide on too!
  15. Excedrin Migraine and Midol Complete seem to help mine...they have tylennol and caffeine (helps the blood vessels) and the midol one has something for bloating as well. Hope you feel better soon!
  16. I would only buy a Honda Civic or Accord. We've always had ours FOREVER with high mileage and they last as long as you maintain.
  17. I'm in a similar situation so we're reviewing in OPG (about 1/2 way) and I will start AAS in August when school 'officially' begins. I'm hoping the double hit of everything will help him retain it this time. I also took someone else's advice (sorry I can't remember who!) to let him read below grade level to boost fluency and confidence. So, I looked though our shelves at home and the library shelves for first grade reading levels and very simple second grade ones. He's been doing better with his fluency already, which in turn leads to confidence. Good luck!
  18. I DID NOT KNOW about teacher rewards at Staples!! What is it and how do I get it?? I go for the penny items and rebates, etc. but always can only do the limit...someone link me! I cleaned out my drawer today and have HUNDREDS of pencils and packs of tape from CVS and Staples deals from LAST year. And, I counted 50 glue sticks...it's a problem! :D
  19. Have you done all of SOTW 3? I have been trying to do this, but I'm new to hs and certainly did not have a classical education, so it's taking awhile. I'd love to look over your book list, would you be willing to share?
