  1. I wouldn't want to coach anyone dumb enough to hire me to be their 'life coach'
  2. Yes! I know nothing about it, other than it sort of ripped through town and all of a sudden a bunch of people were trying to convince other people to join etc. The whole vibe totally freaked me out. I stayed very quiet and sort of backed away whenever it was a topic of conversation. There are acquaintances that I started avoiding if I saw them in the supermarket. I just got a very bad feeling about the whole thing.
  3. Go ahead and laugh! I totally did. I just wish I hadn't sent a profanity laden yelling text to DH before I found out what they were, lol. Not that either of us mind profanity, it was that I looked NUTS. One picture of a small vaguely brown/beige thing with an all caps #*&^(*&^( and a rant that I am not going through this again followed by more (*&^(*&^. Then, 'never mind' I don't know if it matters, but the summer when it just didn't go away had record setting heat and humidity. But we've had very hot and humid spells since then, so I don't know if it was the weather.
  4. Room temp or hot. I don't think I've ever eaten it chilled. I would assume yours would come to room temp on the way to the potluck. I love quiche at a potluck!
  5. What I have seen is the very small amount of webbing in the flour. It's like a little bit of spider web. It's usually near the top of something, like you open the box and see it at the opening. But a couple times I spooned out flour only to find some webbing...so in the trash the flour went. They like the dark..so look up in your kitchen. Sometimes they lay eggs in the corners of the room, up high and along the seam where the ceiling meets the wall, in your cupboards in the cracks. Look behind any pictures on the walls or the clock. Look under shelves. I have found them in the spine of cookbooks that I keep in the kitchen. It's going to look like a small cobweb. Instead of scrubbing all that, I found it much easier to just toss all dry good and get some traps. Eventually it worked.
  6. I take it at night and I mix it with some powdered crystal light. If you don't like splenda or whatever the heck it is they put in that, then it won't work for you. But it works for me. I take 1 teaspoon of the plain in 2 cups warm water first thing in the morning. It tastes like hot lemon water to me, well as tart as 2 cups of water with the juice of 1 lemon, so not very tart. I take 2 teaspoons in 2 cups of cold water with some powdered crystal light (lemonaid or decaf iced tea flavoured etc) before bed at the same time as some other vitamins. I find it helps me sleep and also stopped the heart flutters I was having. I paired it with taurine first thing in the morning and together they have had a MAJOR effect on my previously snappish behaviour. I am a much nicer peri menopausal person with those two things. Trust me.
  7. Some kids have a difficult time knowing that they are whining. I also had a high pitched voice as a kid and I often got told I was whining when, in fact, I thought I was just making a statement. I wasn't upset or complaining, I just sounded whiney. Punishing me for that caused a lot of unnecessary angst and arguments, mostly because I would walk into the room and say something to my mom only to have her yell at me for whining. I was genuinely confused about what I had done wrong. It took me a long time to figure out what she meant was that my voice was too high. By adjusting my tone to a lower pitch I stopped getting yelled at. It had nothing to do with what I was asking or saying, just my tone. When my kids were younger and they sounded like they were whining I would just say "Can you please repeat that in a lower tone of voice?" I found that much easier for them to comprehend that 'please don't whine". It is a concrete description of the problem and a concrete solution.
  8. the 'life coaches' I know aren't messed up or anything like that. They are generally nice and professional people who, like someone mentioned above, get asked for advice often OR are people in the creative fields who have a hard time finding paying gigs or gigs that pay anything worthwhile. Getting paid to be a 'life coach' allows them to work on their own schedule and be available for their other jobs. I honestly think, they actually want to be licensed therapists without paying for the pesky MSW and having to go through those professional rigors. OTOH, having MANY friends with MSW, it costs a fortune to get the degree and the pay can be absolutely abysmal. Don't get me wrong, there are some out there making a good living, but there are a lot of really good therapists out there making peanuts. But given what I know some 'life coaches' pay for certification, seminars etc, I am not so sure it doesn't end up being close to the same thing over time.
  9. I hate to say that I actually know people who are getting certified to be a life coach, so there seems to be some scamming of the trainers, I mean, training and certification process. There is some organization, I don't know the name, but it seems cult-like and a bunch of local homeschoolers are involved. It involves paying to go to these seminars where you pay to be 'broken down' and then somehow learn to rebuild yourself to meet your true potential? The people who participate for a while call themselves life coaches or something similar. This was a few years ago and I don't know if any of the participants are still doing it. I quietly cut off contact with those folks, but I heard stories...a LOT of stories.
  10. Been through this many times. Those f7908098ing things can eat a hole in a ziplock bag. If I saw a SINGLE worm I would toss out anything in a box or a bag. I've had to toss all my tea (they ADORE celestial seasoning tea, lol), any bits of dried fruit in bags from the bulk section...DRY CAT FOOD that was in a paper bag. I haven't had a problem in years, but for a long time (years) it was a constant struggle. I got some traps and left them for a LONG time (used many), and started putting ANYTHING that comes in paper in the freezer for at least three days. Good thing I have a big chest freezer b/c I froze my flour, boxes of cereal, pasta..anything not in glass or metal. They lay eggs in the folds of cardboard boxes (think bottom of cereal boxes) but also in the folds of curtains, in a drawer of dish towels and (I hate to tell you) even in the threads of a jar. Last month I almost screamed because I thought I found two moths sitting on my shower curtain..my bathroom is off the kitchen and when we had the moth infestation they were in the bathroom. I took a picture and texted it to dh and was very upset that we had moths. Then when I went to kill them I found out they were two bits of lint...perfectly shaped lint. I think I'm a bit traumatized. I am 100% serious that I had MUCH less trouble getting rid of lice than the bloody pantry moths.
  11. ds1 is 16, about to be 17. He is a junior in public high school and takes honors/AP classes. He is also a ballet dancer with our local company So, M-F walk to school by 8:30. School 9-3:35pm. Ballet 4-6:45 or so. That is usually followed by a rehearsal or extra classes, so some nights home at 6:45 and some nights home at 8:30, or somewhere in between. Couple hours of homework and instrument practice: Pre-calc, physics, AP LA, APUSH, Spanish,Latin, and guitar. This year, he has 1 study hall during the day so some homework is saved for that time so he can get to bed by 10:30-11. Saturdays: ballet 10am-2:30 class generally followed by rehearsals until about 4 or 4:30, but he might be home at 2:30 Saturday evening might be homework or might be hanging out with friends. Instrument practice happens, laundry will also happen, lol Sunday church, band rehearsal on Sunday afternoon, finishing homework and laundry.
  12. Its all about the crust. A hot water crust, the kind used for meat pies, is super fun to make. I make a vegetarian raised pie for Thanksgiving, and every year it is the most popular dish on the table...even with the meat eaters. But try making one yourself. There are LOTS of videos of how to make a hot water crust etc on youtube etc. It's not hard, I promise ETA: you can't make a raised pie, the kind meant to hold in a meat gravy and stand on it's own after it is cooked, with a regular pie crust or puff pastry. Well, you can make a meat pie with regular pie crust (pate brisee) but it won't be a raised pie. It will have to be served from a pie pan. If you want to make a proper raised pie, like a pork pie, then you need a hot water crust. It can hold the gravy in and stand on it's own
  13. UU since I was a teenager and I haven't heard a word about it. I'll keep my ears open tomorrow.
  14. I have several male friends and NONE have every 'hit' on me. I can't say the same for all my female friends.
  15. Honestly, I assumed it was against regs, but maybe it's to do with billing. Once I was able to convince them to give us a script, but that was for pinworms. I told them I had seen one in a diaper and we needed treatment for the whole family as a precaution. It took some finagling from the nurse, but she was able to get the script called in. I offered to bring in the dirty diaper for inspection, if that would be helpful, lol. That seemed do the trick. But for anything else, no, I can't imagine they would call in a script without seeing the patient. Oh, I have had the family GP give us a script but tell us to hold onto it because we didn't need it at that moment, but if things progressed then it was better to just get the meds than make another appointment. For example, I can imagine if I took one kid in for the flu, he would absolutely give us scripts for everyone else 'just in case'.
  16. This just shows that there is no one right way to do this. My older boy had his voice change first. He was this little kid with a Big Deep Voice. It took at least a year for his growth spurt to kick in, around 13. But he was the baby faced little boy with a big voice...and there went his career in musical theater. All the 'good' parts are for tenors and poor ds1 looks like prince charming (slender, graceful blonde) but has a bass voice. ds2 is just 12 and shows zero signs of puberty, so we'll see how it goes with him.
  17. Ive heard the micronized zinc oxide is also to be avoided because it is so small it can be absorbed..but that might be old information. Like I said, I don't react well to physical sunscreen, my skin finds it much more irritating, so I don't use it often.
  18. The vast majority of 'wrong numbers' on my cell phone are scammers. I don't think I've ever had a legitimate wrong number call on my cell. I dont answer if I don't recognize the number and if it's a scam message I block it right away. FWIW, I only get actual phone calls on my phone if there is an emergency of some sort. I think my mom called me once to tell me something important. Everyone just texts if they need to communicate. I sometimes think I could easily get rid of the phone function of my 'phone' and never miss it, lol
  19. define non-toxic. I am assuming you mean those that use a physical barrier as opposed to a chemical barrier? Because even a sunscreen that uses a physical barrier isn't 'chemical free' or edible. a sunscreen that uses only a physical barrier that doesn't leave a white cast is difficult to find. Asian sunscreen is vastly better than the sunscreen made in the US and you might have better luck. I buy them on Amazon. Check out this blog, it is one I like a lot http://www.snowwhiteandtheasianpear.com/2015/04/sunscreen-showdown-battle-of-3-physical.html The one problem is that most of these sunscreens are what are referred to as 'commuter sunscreens' meaning they are for the face and they aren't sweat or water proof. They are meant to be used on a daily basis as you go about your business. They come in tiny bottles and aren't really meant to hold up to a day at the pool or be used on a kid's whole body. But if you need it on your hands, they might be perfect! I use biore or shisido sunscreen, but I am more likely to break out with physical sunscreen, so I use the chemical type. And all sunscreens are either physical or chemical and they all use the same active ingredients. It's just the carrier ingredients that change, and even then not by much. So if you are using it on your hands on a daily basis, maybe just look for a standard 'baby' sunscreen. Those are generally physical. But maybe do some investigation online? You want to google stuff like 'physical barrier sunscreen no white cast" and see what you get.
  20. Maybe once a year I get a message for someone else. Even more rarely than that, I get a series of messages for someone else. Usually by the second call they sound more tentative. If someone calls three times, I will call the number back and let them know they have the wrong number. I have had to do that once and that was back in the 1990s.
  21. Oh god, the bellowing.... I know it well, it is either too loud or too quiet. Either he is speaking in a way that other adults call the poor boy out for mumbling,, which really means that his voice is deep and he is just speaking quietly. Or he forgets how well his voice can carry now and it's too loud. I often have to tell BOTH dh and ds1 to please speak more quietly. It's always when they are feeling relaxed and comfortable. I usually just say "I'm right here, I can hear you"....unless I am telling ds1 to please speak up so we can hear him. Poor kid, can't catch a break. But it never broke or changed register in mid sentence or anything dramatic. We saw a thing on TV and the teenage boy was speaking in a way that was meant to sound like his voice was breaking (it was animated) and ds1 asked why boys was speaking so weird. We had to explain that some teenage boy's voices make odd squeaks or change register in mid sentence. DS1 was fascinated bc he had never experienced that for himself.
  22. but if you called me you should have the number. And if you don't it's still not my problem. My concern for my personal safety is more important than my concern for the inconvenience to a business. I haven't had any problems with business not leaving messages. It might say something like "I am leaving a message for Ms Squirrel, This is Ms Car mechanic. I am calling about your car that needed repairs, please call me at 111-222-3333" No problems. I've had that as my outgoing message for over 20 years on a variety of platforms and no one has every said it caused a problem. I've never not got any messages I needed to get and no one has ever expressed that it caused them any difficulty. I have got quite a few 'Sorry wrong number' messages though, lol. Why anyone would take the time to leave a message saying 'wrong number' is beyond me.
  23. I guess a doctor visit just to put your mind at ease but it is very unlikely to be anything that warrants concern. My son is about to be 17 and he definitely has friends his age who have never shaved. My son has been shaving for just over a year, but no more than once a week, and that's if he's feeling fancy, lol. He's been 'growing' a goatee for almost a year and so far no one has noticed. I know there are lots of grown men who don't need to shave every day or who can skip on the weekends without it looking any different, especially when they are in their early to mid 20s. It is unlikely that his voice hasn't changed at all. Just the fact that he's grown taller almost guarantees that his voice has changed at least some. If his body is growing then his vocal chords have grown. Lots of men don't have deep voices. My husband has a distinctively deep voice, and I can promise you we know lots of men whose voices are closer to mine, if not higher. And not every boy goes through those dramatic cracks etc. My older boy has clearly inherited his dad's deeper voice, but it never broke or sounded odd. It was a gradual change, mostly noticed by visiting relatives.
  24. My outgoing messages always just says the number, not the name. It says "you have reached 123-456-7890 please leave a message after the beep" That way, if someone has got a wrong number they can double check it, but if you know me, you know it's my number. I learned that when I worked at a domestic violence agency. Our agency outgoing message only had (has) the number and anyone who worked for the agency was required (waaaay back in the day, lol) to have an unlisted and blocked number and to not have any identifying information associated with our phones etc, for our personal safety. Sadly, it wasn't uncommon for our office to get some scary threats.
  25. As the mom of boys who dance, I have seen schools flip themselves inside out, and break their own hard and fast rules to keep boys. I would ask my son if he wants to stay in theory and what staying would look like. Does it mean he is in a classes with the boys his own age? Does it mean a different school? The fact that he gets so emotional over it might mean that he likes to do it, he just doesn't like this school...or it might mean he wants to move on. So, find out what it would take, what would have to change for him to truly want to stay. Ask him what his minimum is and then talk to the teacher. If you tell the teacher that your son isn't feeling connected to the school and needs to be with kids his own age. Tell them that if he doesn't move up then you are worried he's going to leave the school. See what they say. They should be willing to bend. Only do this if your son truly is willing to move on and this would be the thing to keep him from parting ways with dance. The thing with ballet, or really most learned skills, is that if he 'takes a break' he will probably have to start at an even lower level than he is at now. He can't just jump back in where he is now or at a higher level. So, taking a break means he will need a tremendous amount of dedication to go back next year or whatever.
