  1. That's very similar to the response I received, minus the eye-roll. This child does math without complaint, finally, and this does not fool her, lol!
  2. Yes, you can start whenever. We started 3rd this year having only used FLL with this particular child. Do give the placement tests as others have advised. They're a free download on the CLE site.
  3. Oooo, good idea! Right now all of my readers like to read, but the next one that doesn't, this is going down!
  4. If you were planning to do both, but in succession, which would you recommend first?
  5. Based on my experience with both, I think CLE is ahead of Saxon at this level and she'll be able to whiz through. You may want to consider supplementing.
  6. It's convention season and I'm in need of a Sonlight coupon code. Anyone have one or have the ability to get one before March 31?
  7. One major drawback to Lightening Lit is that they don't have all of their lower levels completed.
  8. We've tried these and they are very similar to Total Language Plus. My dilemma with any type of single-book study is that all of my children love to read. When I have them stop to do something like this, they get frustrated. They prefer LLATL over other choices because they can continue reading the book, along with others they may be reading, and not get bogged down. I have only had to supplement one child so far, and we used Easy Grammar for that. He did great in college.
  9. Did you make a decision and order? Checking in for an update.
  10. In some children the panties move and then actually show the genitals. Personally, I don't want my girls showing their underwear. They wear bike shorts, tights, full-length or capri leggings. We wear skirts full-time as a matter of religious preferences.
  11. I meant to add that we thrift a lot, but she likes Forever 21.
  12. My 9yo is very narrow-shouldered and slender, but wears a 7.5 women's shoe. I look in juniors for her clothing because it usually runs slim, especially the XS. The styles are current and grated toward teens, so I have to be aware of modesty.
  13. In talking with my friend further, they have been using a lot of CLE because it is easy to accelerate. She has been reading about MCT and wonders how they compare. I have yet to use MCT and cannot help. Any insight?
  14. To provide more detail, which I was hoping to avoid, I am gathering information to assist a family that lives overseas in a rural area. Internet is not readily available, and there is no running to the library, curriculum sales/bookstores, and poring over websites or Google. Hence the request for a list. This family cannot buy-and-try a lot because of their location, shipping costs, etc. I am familiar with Hoagies, Royal Fireworks and Prufrock, as I use some of their resources with our family. I was hoping for a list I could print and send along with some catalogs.
  15. I am familiar with that site. I was thinking that couldn't possibly be the only resource??
  16. Is there a website or list here somewhere of recommended/suggested curricula for gifted children?
  17. Writing With Ease/The Creative Writer. Simple, straightforward, you can meet her where she's at. Easily found used with a decent resale value. If she's already doing dictation, it's perfect.
  18. If you're not shorting anyone any $$, then I don't think it's shady. Proud wife of a disabled vet here!
  19. I have a slew of kiddos and combine freely. We have been SLers for 16 years. I have tried other things over the years, but I have never sold all of my SL and it is what we love and what works for us. I am currently using P3/4 & P4/5 with my 2yo & 4yo, and a mishmash of Core A along with some other things while I'm putting together a Core B+C/Expedition Earth combo to begin in about six weeks for my 6yo and 9yo. My older dc are SL grads.
  20. Anyone with experience? I've used LLATL a number of years ago with a couple of children, then went on to other things. I now have a dd that I think either of these would be great for, but am considering some sort of combo. Any experience out there?
  21. I already own I Speak Latin, Getting Started with Latin and the entire Prima Latina set. Maybe I'll just stick with exposure. I'll have to see how it goes.
  22. I would like to begin a Latin course this summer with my 9yo (10 by summer), and 6yo. I have Prima Latina, but am wondering if I should use SSL instead as a sort of intro. I don't want to get into a huge discussion, but I need them combined right now in as many things as possible. Any thoughts or suggestions? I am fairly open. TIA!
