  1. Thank you all for your replies, this definitely helps with the planning, I was thinking to buy just one book for the year! I think I will go with two as we will probably doe only two lessons a week but if I do go ahead with the three, is there any particular order you would suggest doing the series with? I forgot to mention that the kids ages are 8.5 and 10 currently and so it seems like they will be fine for them. I don´t think we will test but I see on the website that there is a CD that you can purchase with worksheets etc. Again, is there a logical order to follow or whatever interests them the most? We´ve learned a lot about animals in the past and although they would like to continue with that I was thinking to start with the body as we´ve never really covered anything in this area. Thanks again!
  2. I´m looking at The Human Body - God´s Design for Life and I like the series (I see plants, animals etc.) but I am wondering for how long is one book to be used for? How are the lessons planned and how many are there? What are your over thoughts on this curriculum for science?
  3. Thanks for your response, I am very unfamilar with all of the abreviations, what would IEW be?
  4. I´m wondering what you all might recommend for an 8.5 year old who struggles with reading and writing. We´ve moved very slowly through Primary Language Lessons (MFW) and are finishing up the 2nd-3rd grade book. HE can do the memorization and pictures studies but really struggles with the dictation and spelling (although these last two months I have seen quite a bit of improvement). We move VERY slowly through every exercise and it is a bit painful. As he is a hands on learner and likes checklists I am thinking that a workbook would be better for him but I have no idea where to start. I love the freedom of Charlotte Mason style but I want to make sure he is getting what he needs too and not hating every minute of it. Any suggestions?
  5. Thank you, that seems like a very good option!
  6. I have an almost ten year old daughter who loves horses and enjoys learning about them. As I truly like the idea of interest based learning but am not sure where to look for a study for her I was wondering if anyone could recommend good resources or even online studies for her? She is a very good reader and reads everything she can get her hands on (which is not a lot by way of books since we live in South America!) I would appreciate any ideas, I bet I´m not the only one with an horse enthusiast in the house! PS good classic (and clean) fictional book recommendations would also be appreciated, she has done the Black Stallion and Black Beauty series.
  7. No planning ahead, just taking it one day at a time....
  8. Does anyone have experience with ACE? I am considering it only because it is offered here in Peru as an accedited option in both Peru and the US. I am a little hesitant as it looks like it is all book work, anyone out there that recomends it or not? I currently use MFW 1 with both my 5 and 6 year old, I like it although repetitive at times. I would love to continue it but am considering the other only to get them accredited... home schooling is not accepted here in Peru and if they want to go to college here they would be stuck later on.
  9. Does anyone know of a good website that I can buy multiple books without having to pay individual shipping on each one? I have looked and looked and the few I find either have free shipping but charge a bunch for the book or do not have any selection of books. I have a large list to purchase for MFW 1 and would like to find a website that I can choose them all at and pay reasonable amounts of shipping. Help?
  10. Thank you so much for your reply, as you can see I have not looked into the details very much. So when Singapore is introduced, what level will they begining at? I think I will take you advice and just order the extra math book, I prefer to have everything planned out for me :) Any other tips for 1 st grade would be appreciate, for example, what else should I buy? I am in Peru as a missionary and have someone coming down in a few weeks that will need to bring everything so I want to make sure I get what I need now :)
  11. We've just finished up MFW K and I am trying to decide what to use for 1st grade for my two children. Is the math supplied in the program sufficient or is there a need to supplement? My children are also not on the same level in this area, the younger more on a kinder level. I'm very new to home schooling and could use some advice from others. I'm also located in Peru and do not have the option to try out different curriculums; what I purchase and have brought down will be what we have to go with so I rely heavily on recommendations. ps the math I was considering using is Singapore, the earlybird for my 4 1/2 year old and 1 A/B for the 6 year old (she has completed more or less the early bird) but I don't want attempt it apart from MFW if it is not necessary.
  12. So it seems like FIAR is an all-inclusive prgram like MFW and those of you using it did not add math or any other subjects? This is what I am trying to figure out, is anything else needed in addition to MFW K ?
  13. I am sure I will get varried answers to this question but in general when do you begin adding in these subjects? Right now I have a pre-school aged child and a K and I am seraching for curriculum that is all inclusive meaning I don't have to teach subjects one by one. At what grade/age do you generally do this or do you this early?
