  1. Bumping for you and really hoping you get enough votes!! :auto:
  2. I wouldn't have a problem with that. I've always thought that particular fear to be a little bit strange. Truly, what is anyone going to do with that information?
  3. SWB made a YouTube video of she and her son doing a dictation passage. I would recommend watching that to get a feel of what it should look like. I was very stressed out about the dictation portion before we started. After I watched SWB do it on the video, I felt a lot better about it. You can find a sticky at the top of the Parent's General board that has all of her videos linked.
  4. I just *knew* with all three of my kids. With number two, I went through three false negative tests before I finally got the positive result. I was so aggrevated by then because I knew I was pregnant. LOL!
  5. I'd like to take the kids up to see it this fall. We did SOTW ancients this year, so it would be perfect.
  6. We have our shows that we like to watch, and we visit during the commercials. If there is nothing on, we sit next to eachother and surf the web on our laptops, stopping to chat every now and then.
  7. :grouphug::grouphug: I'm right there with you today. My 6-year-old son sounds just like your daughter. I wish I had some advice. Maybe someone else will have some for the both of us. :bigear:
  8. I've read in the past that number reversals are somewhat normal in the early years, but at what point should I be concerned? My oldest dd (she is 7) reverses her 3s, 5s, 6s, 7s, and 9s fairly regularly. She doesn't reverse them every single time she writes them, but it's a pretty regular thing. I do correct her and have her erase and rewrite correctly, but sometimes not five numbers after the correction, she will write the number I just corrected backwards again. Do I just need to keep taking deep breaths until she "outgrows" it, or whatever? Or should I take her in to be tested?
  9. I hadn't heard about it, but I'm just in Vancouver. I may check it out. Thanks for the heads up!
  10. Is it possible that they thought you all were going to be busy with moving and didn't want to add stress? :grouphug:
  11. Is this really from The Onion? I just can't take it seriously.
  12. Have you ever looked on Craigslist for free mobile homes? They have those on our CL all the time. It would just be the cost to move it from their property to yours. That can cost anywhere from $1500 to $2500. Most of the ones that I've seen are liveable -- not pretty, but liveable in the sense that you wouldn't have to do anything major to it to make it safe to live in. Just a thought. ETA: Here's the first one that came up in a quick CL search. I know this isn't your location, but just to give you an idea: http://portland.craigslist.org/yam/for/3031191752.html
  13. :iagree: I love Sophie Kinsella. I just finished I've Got Your Number and it was hilarious.
  14. We love Shel Silverstein. I can't imagine what people object to in Where the Sidewalk Ends. :001_huh:
  15. IMO, there are no circumstances where it would be okay to trick someone into having a child.
  16. I think I would start hopping back and forth across the yellow line, from one lane to the other, as she approached. Then I'd try to get the craziest look in my eyes that I could muster and say, "Which is it?! Which lane am I going to be in?! You don't know do you?! Should you swerve left or right?!" Then I'd laugh maniacally and shout, "LET'S DANCE!" Okay. Not really. But I enjoyed the mental picture. :D
  17. I had Kaiser when I worked -- before I was married or had kids. I loved them. I have asthma, and got excellent care. They are the ones who actually diagnosed me. My MIL has Kaiser through her work. She has an excellent plan. She tripped and fell and broke her wrist in two places, requiring surgery. The entire ordeal, from the first x-ray to the pain medication after the surgery to her post-op office visits cost her a grand total of $4 out of pocket.
  18. I would try to encourage them to take up your dad's offer. If they refuse, I would offer to take both kids, but I wouldn't just take one child. If I simply could not take both, I wouldn't take either. :grouphug: It's such a hard situation.
  19. My DD finished OPGTR today! Now what? What have you used with your kids when they finished their main phonics curriculum? Do you just have them do lots of reading, or do you move on to some other kind of formal instruction to reinforce rules?
