  1. Yay!!!! I wish I could have been there. It sounds so heart-warming. You're now giving me some great ideas! We usually try to do "Tuesday Tea", but missed it this week somehow. I think we can easily make-up for it though.:tongue_smilie: What a neat idea! I like this idea. Do you know how long you've done "Sunday family tea" ?
  2. I bought WTM book at a thrift store a couple years ago. I dusted it off recently and started reading it again. WTM forums was mentioned different times on another forum & so thought I'd check it out. I've learned so much here & continue to learn a lot here as I continue to look at curriculum.
  3. I was not trying to make a point. I was just trying to further understand your position. Thanks for addressing it. This (the privilege of driving) is something that I've thought about on the "other side of life" with elderly neighbors and so on.
  4. Lolly ~ :grouphug: I'm sorry this happened to your dd. I wish I could see a video of this, but the idea of getting a transcript is a great idea. None of us (except you & your family) were there to hear the tone & see the mannerisms in which the verdict was delivered. I feel for you all. My question is this: If I'm emotionally fragile as an adult, should that disqualify me from driving?
  5. This is all hilarious! m4given, (who is new to these parts & smiling thru all these posts.)
  6. That's what my Mother always said!:tongue_smilie: Praying for you & praying that children are helpful & cooperate. AND praying for stress to drop as low as possible.
  7. I've been thinking about this too. What I started to do is to tell dd that at a certain time we'll have our meet-ups & then she is to complete Independent Work in between those times. The earlier she gets up and at, the earlier she'll get done with her work. We do meet-ups for each subject. Those meet-ups consist of follow-up from previous assignments, review of old material as needed, instruction of new material, and my dd's concerns of material covered. This approach seems to help us. We're still figuring out what works smoothly around here & have lots of work to do that way. Best wishes!
  8. Tea Time is a favorite around here. *We keep it quite simple. *We don't match tea items most times. *We vary what we do. *We try to keep it enjoyable. *We recite & read & discuss poetry from different resources. How we do it: *Outside ~ on the picnic table, on what we call our "play platform", on a blanket. *With and without table cloths & cloth napkins. *Inside at kitchen table or other tables in the house. *With or without lantern, candles. *Food - with and without food. Sometimes crackers or cookies. *We do informal & more formal approaches. *We do it without & with friends/relatives. I choose poems & the children also choose poems. We keep a basket of poetry readings & I'll exchange what is kept in the basket. Have fun with it!!!
  9. :grouphug: May you have peace through all that you're experiencing.
  10. That is sad on all accounts. Sad for the pressure put on teachers, sad for pressure put on parents, and most of all it's a very sad day for the children. Must say that I've had to bite my tongue many times. I can get so riled up in a discussion like you had. I'm all for children to advance at their pace/understanding - niether to be forced ahead nor to be blocked from advancing forward. Challenge the children? Yes, but not to force them into a nice, neat box. I appreciated the teachers my dd experienced in public school, and yet I heard the pressure of what kids are expected to do younger & younger. Not a justification, and yet I wonder if this teacher feels great pressure & so puts blame on the parents?
  11. Do you (or anyone else) know when the boards started?
  12. is when I'm just soooooooo tired. I know that I've heard that at times as a kid. My heart so far has checked out OK medically.
  13. Is it out yet???? What kind was it?:scared:
  14. No option here. But we need to send our "Intent to Homeschool". Then we need to either to an evaluation or a test at end of year. Sometimes I feel like moving to Oklahoma or Alaska or somewhere else where it's less hassle.
  15. :bigear: Listening in here. I've been looking at some of their product for our youngest.
  16. :auto: So now you're just cruisin' along! :auto: Thanx for the explaining. I think it's awesome. I've been doing lots of research too on these forums & learning so much.
  17. Maybe I should follow your example? I'd love to be left home alone! Are you OK?
  18. Wow! You and your family are so inspiring. My dd was looking at your family pictures and thought how fun it would be to visit you all on your island home. I like your sense of humor to, by the way! :) Thanks so much for sharing your schedule.
