  1. R&S does include writing lessons....I have not successfully used it however, to teach writing. I will be supplementing my dd10 with Wordsmith next year.
  2. i'm a BIG fan of AAS....used it with my dd10...and just started with my ds6....my dd was almost unable to read until we started aas....and within the first year she moved up to grade level...i would highly recommend!! As for SOTW...how many lessons are you planning to do each week? There are over 40 lessons for each book...and each has 2-3 "sections". I usually do one to two lessons a week. What is your plan?
  3. no...i don't think the dvd's are a must. we used them some, but i found the material was pretty easy to teach without.
  4. :iagree: I forgot to mention before that our local doc mentioned to keep the tick...it can be analyzed for lyme/rmsf etc.
  5. we use r&s english...it's a very strong program...more grammar than any high school child will ever need....
  6. A friend of mine says there's lots of jobs in Physical Therapy or perhaps going for a Physician's Assistant!!
  7. oooohhhhhh!!! How wonderful!!! I would have a BIG list of what i wanted to do....books to read, friends to visit, movies to watch....and would probably spend 1/2 my time on the internet....!!!
  8. if i had access to a good, private school, i would send my dd15 there when she started high school. Instead i choose an online academy. She needed the pressure of having deadlines and other people grading/seeing her work. However, with ds13, i would not send him to a private school. I might send him for art camp though.
  9. most trainers i've dealt with would say that she needs to not have unsupervised freedom in the house until she is dependable. None of my dogs give any clear signs to me that they need to go out. However, I try to be diligent to make sure they are taken out every few hours. When they were learning, they were taken out every two hours and within 30 minutes of eating. They still have the occasional accidents. If your dog is using the basement, then you need to keep her crated unless you are watching her like a hawk. When you're done with "playtime"....crate her again. When she becomes more dependable, she gets more freedom.
  10. does your ds seem to have this retention problem in other subjects, or just math?
  11. I've also heard good things about the VP online classes!!
  12. i'm interested in finding out what you think too...i have a dd that i thought i'd move from singapore to r&s5....so...should i keep her in singapore?? (not to hijack the post)...;)
  13. DebbS...thanks for your reply...we have that book...i haven't yet assigned it to him...so that would be a good place to start...however, we have nothing in the way of art sales/shows in our area...i would have to take him over an hour away. Perhaps we will need to consider this in his senior year...???
  14. Laurel in CA and LunaLee....thanks for your suggestions...I will look into these...I'm not so concerned about the art history....he's a history buff and LOVES facts about his favorite topics. My main concern is getting the quality art instruction he needs. Most art colleges tend to expect a fairly "general" art portfolio....basic drawing/art skills. I guess if we consider colleges that specialize in animation, perhaps that would look more at his animation work that he's been doing.
  15. actually...the only reason to eat chocolate chip cookies is for the chocolate...skip the cookie and grab a handful of chocolate chips!!!;)
  16. in some recipes you can substitute white grape juice or apple juice....i've also tried some white vinegar (but diluted)....but in this case i think the red wine would be yummy!!:cheers2:
  17. :iagree: Our three dogs are part of the family!! So is the hair, mud, dirt etc. If you religiously use something like a Furminator, you can cut down on some of the shedding....but it won't eliminate it altogether. I do, however, have a dear friend with 4 kids and 2 dogs who somehow keeps the mess under control...but then again, she is naturally very orderly and clean, the dogs are poodles, AND she cleans all day while her 17 yo dd teaches the younger kids. Sooooo...in reality....refer to the above comment.....!!!!
  18. if you want Vegan....hummus and pita chips is always a good option!!
  19. That's Great...thanks for letting us know!!!:hurray:
