I think RR has great service. Last year, when I couldn't find the cheap dinosaur excavation kits I had purchased the previous year in the catalog or online, I called CS, and she went searching for it! She actually found the items, processed the additional payment AND made sure the items got into the shipment that was already leaving the warehouse for me. They really went above-and-beyond for me. They could have easily said they didn't carry the kits anymore without checking. Kudos to RR!!!

MFW is awesome. I have been HS 3 years, and the year I used Adventures was my best year yet. Looking forward to doing it again in 2 weeks with my youngest. MFW really fits us. Just a great way to learn while having fun.

Curriculum that you tried and dislike?

Saxon math just took soooooo loooong in the higher levels. It exhausted ME just watching them do math for so long. Can we do something other than just math today please! -

We loved MFWK- my son loved the hands-on science and the crafts- it was the best part of his day. He learned to read beautifully with the phonics, and we had so many sweet moments with so many good library books that year. I loaned it to a friend and she loves it too!!! HTH

Has anyone used Learning Adventures AWOA?
kimsclan replied to Aconnolley's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I am starting AWOA this fall with a 3rd grader and a 7th grader also. I have perused the manual and it really looks fantastic. I will supplement a little grammar, reading, and require deeper writing for the 7th grader, but it should be easy to supplement. Should be plenty for the 3rd grader. I also purchased the k-3 supplement which looks like fun. I have exhaustively researched this curriculum and so many state that when the used AWOA they loved it! I'm looking forward to it. -
I just finished my 3rd year homeschooling and my best year was the year I used Adventures and MFW Kinder- I'm back to MFW!

For education, you could go to Stone Mountain and go on the train ride, go through the village and go to the top of the mountain. Atlanta also has a place called Cyclorama, which is a huge, rotating circular painting of the civil war with a full auditory history lesson- and it is next to the zoo. But my favorite place would be their fantastic aquarium. It truly is one of the best in the country. I used to live in Atlanta for 16 years. Enjoy your trip!!!

How do you get school done when YOU'RE sick?
kimsclan replied to mommy4ever's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Give them all their independant things to do with movies and free reading and try to do a few things on Saturday. That's what we did today- I was sick since Tuesday! -
SOTW. Ease of use so we could do all the things I never get to, easy to combine ages and beef it up for olders.

We used LHFHG and Preparing last year. LHFHG was for my ds6 in 1st grade and Preparing for dd10 5th grade. We did not like the books in LHFHG. Reddy fox was great, but to have a whole year of very similar books became too repetative. I would have preferred a variety of stories, and therefore did not continue with the reading schedule and supplemented from the library. We did enjoy the history readings very much. Science could have had more to it. We love science here, so we supplemented. Preparing was very good, although we prefer more hands-on science. The historical books were excellent, and we really enjoyed the poetry study. The independant history was great. My daughter enjoyed that part of the day tremendously and really improved her drawing skills. Highly recommended!
