  1. SKL -- I have thought this many times but forget to say it by the time I finish reading. I think it is great that you give donations for scholarships and do things like donate the food :thumbup1:
  2. Annie -- Bats  Knox -- good deal on the chairs & way to go on the washing machine! SKL -- I got hand me down clothes from the neighbor boy  Itsheresomewhere -- great deal on curriculum Jane -- wine and show, sounds like good times Quill -- one of my ds didn't tell me his boots were to small. He just kept wearing them until he literally couldn't get them on his feet. I asked if they had been hurting his feet (yes) and why didn't he tell me. He said he was just wearing them as long as he could. Missed last weeks thread. We spent more that we should have but it was for good family times. Went to the lake fishing. I packed a cooler of drinks and snacks. Cost was gas. Then another day we took a family trip. Just a day trip. We didn't do the "extras" at the place. We were happy doing the free things and seeing the sights. Cost was gas and food. This past week we mostly stayed home. That was good for money. I did stop by the grocery while I was out for a meeting but didn't spend much at all. Only got some bread and couple other items.
  3. I would stay home. Of course I have also said it is to hot or to cold to go to the grocery :seeya: We might have weird meals but that is ok too.
  4. Good grief for a blow dryer? I think I am spending a lot when I buy a $15 one
  5. I want to thank you for starting this thread. We really need to cut back at least for awhile.
  6. Oh and when I watch TV at night the volume is low, because I like it that way.
  7. I am a night owl. Also love to sit up at night and read or watch TV or poke around on internet. Just relax and not think.
  8. Occasional snack while watching TV - yes, Full meal -- never have Never crossed my mind to have my coffee in bed. Most of the time I get my coffee and head to my porch. Love my porch.
  9. Ds graduated this weekend! Spendy week for me too Ds birthday dinner Laundry detergent Bag of almonds Last minute field trip -- gas $ and ate out $ at special place near field trip. But a very good time with a special group of friends Ds a shirt for graduation -- of course will wear it other times too Haircuts for dss & me Can and bottled drinks -- were on sale and I like to have on hand for our picnics and spur of the moment trips Bought dss each a new travel cup Photo printing -- pictures for graduation table & some senior pictures to give out Graduation decorations -- while they were in stores. We are hoping to have a family & close friends for a "graduation party" in a few weeks Food for reception -- everyone brings food for reception after graduation Pizza night before graduation -- because I was busy and stressed and realized it was after supper time and no thought of supper We need to cut out any extra spending for awhile
  10. 1/2 gallon sherbet (I always use raspberry) 2. 2 liters lemon lime soda That is all and is always gone quickly
  11. I can't fathom spending that much on shoes period.
  12. I just remembered another big spend we had about 2 weeks ago. Dh had to have some dental work done. WOWZA $$$ we don't have dental insurance. I was sitting here doing some thinking on bills/money. I started counting on the money we spent for dental then remembered :glare: He has to have more done in a couple weeks :crying:
  13. Was going to say I had a relatively cheap week but then I thought about it. Bought a big sub sandwich -- twice -- for field trips. I could have bought bread and lunch meat but this was simple and something different. Regular groceries were normal but I found a good deal on meat and stocked up. So even though it was quiet a bit of money this week it will be better in the long run.
  14. Oh ok. We can put anything out. What isn't picked up by someone else will be picked up by the city truck not the same as the garbage truck. Garbage truck will only pick up what is in the cans. But to be honest most of what you listed would have been picked up by "Junkers" There are people that make their living around here by picking up junk, mostly metal stuff, and sell it to the scrap yard.
  15. Quill -- the doll sounds like a good money spend for the heart Knox -- Glad your ds got a new bike. Stealing a kids bike is just :cursing: :cursing: Barbeque Mom -- know what you mean about wanting money drain to stop hjffkj -- good deal on the dress Annie -- wow I guess I don't think about things like not being able to put stuff out by the road. We put stuff out and generally a couple hours later the stuff is gone. Good sleep I well worth $13 Spend-y week here. Other ds - presents, cake, ice cream and pizza -- really not to bad and made him super happy Out to eat with friends Bought a bunch of stamps -- to send out graduation announcements and mothers day cards (I send them to aunts, cousins, friends) Mothers day gifts -- my mom and MIL Few groceries A kindle book -- mind candy for me This morning I had shown dh what "we" got his mom and handed dh her card to sign. The card I picked up for him to give to his mom. He asked me "did you get a card for yourself? So I can get the boys to sign it for you.". :glare: Uh no I was kinda busy picking out your mom and my mom a gift and card. Was feeling kinda guilty for buying the kindle book. Not anymore.
  16. No no no. I promise I did not mean it that way! I was just saying that there are people that abuse the system and that isn't right. But I am glad for the ones that need the assistance and can get the assistance. In no way was I trying to be judgmental.
  17. If the store won't take it back I would contact the company. In most cases they will refund your money or send you coupons for more than the amount.
  18. People need to worry about their own life. Drives me insane when people judge others because they are using SNAP or WIC. We don't know their life story. I know there are a lot of people that abuse the system but there are a lot of people who need these to survive. I have used WIC but never SNAP, came close to needing SNAP though.
  19. I just did ds. Picked out pictures we liked and made 5x7 cards from WalMart. They say Class of 2016 and has his name, school name and date graduating Very simple but he liked them
  20. This week was not a good week for money savings. Other ds has a birthday coming up. I bought a few items for him. Ordered some graduation stuff for ds1 There was a death in the family. Dh needed a new shirt for funeral so we went shopping. Now dh has 4 new shirts (but 1 is going back), ds has a new pair of jeans (he has been down to 1 pair for some time now) and a new shirt, I have a new pair of cheapo sneakers. (they were on sale) We ate out after visitation and the funeral. Also extra gas in vehicle. Dh was upset and we did some riding, just getting out, instead of coming home after the funeral. Might have been extra money but I am glad we did it. Dh seemed to feel better after.
  21. I have been good. Was looking on amazon, ds2 birthday is coming up. I put several items in my cart, most for him and a few for me. Moved most of the "for me" to "save for later. And moved several items for ds to "save for later". Then right before hitting send I moved the 1 thing for me I wanted to "save for later" . Then ordered the 2 items I know ds wants.
  22. Our home field isn't like that. A couple other fields I have been to say "no outside drinks" but I have never seen them stop someone with a water bottle. I have seen them stop people with coolers, especially at tournaments. At home field I have been known to take supper (just a sandwich - lunch meat or pork chop or hamburger etc. or a wrap) for 1 of the dss. If both were playing but at separate times I would take a sandwich and an extra drink. Whenever the 1st ones game was over he would go put his ball gear in the van and grab his supper and drink and come back to bleachers to watch his brother play. And if dh was working over and coming straight to the ball park from work. I would have him a sandwich and drink ready too. Some times we got weird looks but other times people would ask "hey which concession stand did you get that from?"
  23. I am guilty of buying the single beverages but we are also "that weird family" that takes reusable water bottles to all ball games. My guys still get Gatorade some but it is the powder mixed in their water bottles. Some other "weird" thing we do is use reusable shopping bags, cloth napkins and bring our lunch with us (in reusable containers  ).
  24. Jane -- when we do get to travel we have always taken food too. We try to get rooms with microwave and mini fridge. Before going I grill some chicken, hamburgers etc. and take them with us in a cooler. We take lots of snacks and drinks (bought on sale) too. Even when ds had an away ball tournament (day not overnight) we packed a cooler with drinks and food. I don't think I responded on last thread. Don't think we have been doing to great either  We have eaten out a few to many times lately. Crazy schedule and my lack of planning. Got to get back on the ball. Bought ds a late birthday/early graduation gift. Haven't decided when to give it to him. But found a good deal on some camp equipment he has been wanting. Ds2 has a birthday coming up. Haven't bought him anything yet. Usually he is the easy one to buy for. This year he hasn't mentioned anything.
