  1. Here's a couple of resources for you. http://www.thephonicspage.org/On%20Reading/Resources/syllable%20division%20charta.pdf http://springmanreading.edublogs.org/rules-of-syllable-division/ http://www.eslteachersboard.com/cgi-bin/english/index.pl?read=2013
  2. I believe NV schools are ranked #50 which might sway your decision to move here.
  3. I don't live far from Nellis so I can give you my opinion of Vegas. I have lived out here for 7 years and still don't care for it. The weather is horrible, there is not a lot of family stuff to do, it's a very transient town, and the lack of green scenery is quite depressing for me. However, the homeschool laws are great, the homeschool groups are very active, the houses are cheap, and there are lots of things to do on the strip if you like that sort of thing. Let me know if you have any specific questions. :001_smile:
  4. Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for. http://www.scholastic.com/magicschoolbus/parentteacher/activities/index.htm
  5. Are you using a free version? If so, how did you get it? DD does a lesson a day so I think she will probably finish 3rd grade and move on to fourth grade before the school year is up. There is a pre-test, word study, applying meaning, words and their meanings, just the right word, and then a post-test. DD really likes it and never complains about doing it.
  6. I'm so sorry about Emily. It's so hard to lose a beloved pet. Hugs to you and your family.
  7. I noticed there's a teacher's manual for this. Do you think it's necessary?
  8. My dd didn't like Explode the Code online either. However, she didn't mind the workbooks.
  9. Did you check your spam folder? One of my emails from HSBC ended up there.
  10. My dd uses Evan Moor Daily Language Review. It doesn't take long to do and she likes it.
  11. We did levels 1 & 2 in first grade and level 3 in second grade.
  12. I have a few. I have one on my left book in memory of my first boyfriend who is also the father of my oldest dd. He passed away 9 days before our dd was born. It's a heart with a banner that has his initials which are the same as dd's initials. I have a Hindu tree of life on my left ribcage in memory of my father who passed away when I was 11. I had two small tattoos, one of each shoulder blade that I recently covered up because they were old and faded. I covered them with flowers that have specific meanings and two birds that represent my two dds. In the middle of the flowers I have an infinity symbol which is surrounded by cheetah print. The infinity symbol represents the love for my dh and I'm obssessed with animal print. I want quite a few more and a half sleeve but can't afford it right now. I got my first 3 tattoos when I was 19 and didn't get anymore until almost 20 years later. I could care less if people judge me for my tattoos. I think tattoos are a beautiful form of art and love to hear the stories behind them.
  13. I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you and your family.
  14. I'm so sorry about your loss. Our cat died in December and I couldn't get off the couch for 3 days. It hit me very hard and I still get teary when I talk about it. Hugs to you and your family!
  15. My 20 yr. old dd was an extremely difficult teenager. I really thought I wasn't going to survive her teenage years. This book really helped a lot http://www.amazon.com/Yes-Your-Teen-Crazy-Without/dp/0936197447
  16. We've used www.lessonpathways.com for our science. It's free so you can't beat the price.
  17. See if your library has a copy of Homeschool Your Child for Free: More Than 1,200 Smart, Effective, and Practical Resources for Home Education on the Internet and Beyond by LauraMaery Gold and Joan M. Zielinski.
  18. DD uses both as a supplement. They're quick and a great review.
  19. We used WWE, OPGTR, ETC, Evan Moor Daily Language review, and some free grammar worksheets.
  20. We used OPGTR and Time4learning. DD also played around on Starfall starting at age 4.
  21. I feel the same way. Can we do volume 2 if we haven't done 1?
