  1. I added Latin and dd loves it. I'm trying to add an art & composer study but haven't done it yet. I was also thinking about adding Geography because I feel like we're not doing enough.
  2. My dd has a singing class every Thurs., bi-weekly gymnastics for homeschoolers, bi-weekly science club, weekly swim lessons for homeschoolers, bi-weekly tennis lessons for homeschoolers and various homeschool activities through out the month. We both like to keep busy.
  3. The cut off date in Nevada is September 30th. My dd will be 7 on October 20th so she is in 1st grade. If we stilled lived in CA she would be in 2nd since the cut off date is December 1st there. It drives me crazy that it's not the same in everty state. I have a friend in CA who is a teacher and waited a year to put her son in K and his b-day is in September. My oldest daughter's b-day is December 30th so she started K at almost 6 but ended up skipping 2 grades and graduated high school at 16.
  4. What do you think of it so far Angela? It looks a lot more intensvie than FLL. I like the idea of the grammar jingles and I think dd would to. I'm just not sure about all of the other stuff.
  5. We are currently using FLL 1 but my dd doesn't care for it so I was thinking of switching to Shurely. Do I really need to purchase the whole kit for level 1? It seems like an awful lot of stuff. Is it worth the price?
  6. Thanks ladies! Keep us posted how GWG is working out for your dd Angela. I'm not sure if Shurley is secular so I'll check that out as well. I might just go with a Evan Moore workbook and see if I can combine it with FLL although it might take a bit of tweaking.
  7. DD is on lesson 18 in FLL 1 and really dislikes it. What other alternatives are there for 1st grade grammar? I was looking at Growing With Grammar but it doesn't seem very popular around here. Anything else that is secular? Thanks!
  8. Great pics. We are going to do our Nile River soon. I love the idea of Geography cookies.
  9. I started my dd in book 2 when she was on lesson 120 in OPGTR. It seems pretty easy for her but I wanted the review.
  10. Ladydusk, I hope you don't mind me asking but I'm curious why you didn't buy Level 1 since it is a 3 year program?
  11. We just started Level 1 Monday and we have already done 10 lessons. We average about 20 mins per day, 5 days per week. Level 1 seems real easy for my dd so I think we will probably breeze right through it.
  12. My oldest dd turned 18 in December and just got her license in July. I really wanted her to take private instructions but a friend of hers took her driving regularly. She had to take her driving test twice and did much better the second time. I think she was too nervous the first time and was more confident going in the second time because she knew what to expect. The funny thing is she still doesn't have a car and has to take the bus everwhere since she recently moved out. She can't afford rent, college, and all of the things that come with car ownership so she chose the first two. I would have chosen a car but she likes living on her own.
  13. I was thinking of starting Latin this year with my 1st grader using Song School Latin. Are there any pros or cons with starting now versus later? Thanks ladies!
  14. I was wondering the same thing. I just started WWE1 with my almost 7 yr. old so I'm sure it will take her some time to get use to answering in a complete sentence. We'll keep plugging along.
  15. I'm a night owl as well. I don't go to bed until around 1:30 and try to get up at 8. I'm always tired. I have thought about trying sleeping pills but I'm going to try the natural route first. Chamomille tea, Valerian, and Melatonin are all natural rememdies. You can find all three at Whole Foods or your local vitamin store. There have been times where I've fallen asleep around 11 but then I wake up a couple of times during the night. I feel like I never get enough sleep.
  16. We will be starting 1st grade next week and to be honest I'm not sure how to schedule our days. Last year I kind of did it by the seat of my pants but I think I need more structure this year. I know I want dd to do math and phonics everyday but I'm not sure about other subjects. Can someone please post a sample of your weekly schedule? Thank you very much ladies!
  17. We will be starting at the end of the month. I'm still waiting for curriculum I just ordered.
  18. The AG suggests The Kingfisher Illustrated History of the World, The Kingfisher History Encyclopedia, The Usborne Book of World History, and The Usborne Internet-Linked Encyclopedia of World History. I was just planning on getting The Usborne Internet-Linked Encyclopedia of World History. Will that be enough? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  19. Hi Brieana, I in the NW part of Vegas. I have a 6.5 yr. old dd and we are about to start our 2nd year of homeschooling.
  20. Your plans look awesome! Thank you so much for taking the time to post them.
  21. I'd love to see your plans as well.
  22. Bumping to see if anyone else chimes in. I'd love to hear more about this.
  23. I was considering this program also and would love to hear feedback on it.
