  1. Fantastic! Also asking for a photo if possible. I love this movie so going would be a birthday present for me, especially if it's the 70mm print. But I agree, staying home while everyone else is out is also a wonderful gift as well. Enjoy your reading!
  2. Also a non-pet owner so I can't answer the pads question. I've seen pet relief areas at SFO with a place for the pets to go, water bowls, and baggies for the owners to clean up. They are hilariously marked with hydrants and you have to follow paw prints to get there.
  3. This is very concerning. Can you elaborate? Has she lost interest in her previous hobbies, or developed new ones? Is he trying to put space between your daughter and friends/family?

    Beach Hajib

    Yes, Nice banned them.
  5. We have that book around here somewhere, along with Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail '72 which is probably also intense. I can't say I've read either, but I did see the movie with Johnny Depp and can say that's the last time I liked him in anything. Benicio del Toro, on the other hand, continues to impress. I could have sworn A Clockwork Orange was on the shelves but I may have donated it. Checking my books for colors, I have 3 books which follow the pattern of "The <color> <noun>": The Yellow Wallpaper, The Scarlet Letter, and The Silver Chair. My choice for the challenge will be The Hunt for Red October. It's an interesting copy because it's a first edition, published by the United States Naval Institute, which helped make it popular. They don't publish a lot of fiction. I've been chipping away at Hawaii and have added The Elementals and Countdown City, the sequel to The Last Policeman.
  6. I ordered the PB floral one. I'm not usually much of a floral type but somehow I like this one a lot. DH will be surprised! (I think he'll like it too, or won't care much either way, but he will do a double-take that I chose a floral. I was a bit bummed because the duvet cover will not be shipped until Sep 29 and I have houseguests coming around the 15th, but the shams and inserts will be here and I have the plain white uncovered duvet I can use in the meantime. Thanks everyone! This was a huge help and I'm happy to get this done. My eyes will be happy to stop looking at mismatched stripes late at night.
  7. Thanks everyone! Those of you suggesting a different pattern, will this floral work? http://www.potterybarn.com/products/pippa-floral-duvet-cover-sham/?pkey=cduvet-covers-shams%7Cpatterned-duvet-covers-shams&&cduvet-covers-shams|patterned-duvet-covers-shams
  8. "Neither" is also an option, absolutely. :D I don't have a photo but I'll look around some more. I didn't find anything I particularly liked when I looked earlier. I see what you're saying about the horizontal stripe and it would be easy to rotate the pillow, and probably the duvet. The difference between the length and width of the mattress is 12 inches so the duvet might technically come up short if rotated horizontally, but we usually fold it quite a ways down. We could rotate it and fold it less, I suppose.
  9. I don't have an eye for design and I'm trying to mix stripes. I own a set of charcoal gray flannel sheets with white pinstripes. This is the duvet cover of the sheet set I have. I bought the sheets a long time ago so I can't find a picture, but they're the exact same as this duvet cover. All the parts of the set are the same and I want to break it up by mixing in another stripe. Another option is to mix in plain white, but I thought a stripe would be more interesting. I want to put 2 Euro shams behind the regular pillows and cover my duvet. So here are the two I'm considering: http://www.westelm.com/products/flannel-stripe-duvet-cover-shams-tuxedo-stripe-b1777/?cm_src=E%3Aduvet-covers (This is what I'm calling the "wide stripe" one. The gray color, not the blue. This one is flannel like the sheets.) and http://www.westelm.com/products/ticking-stripe-duvet-cover-shams-b1119/?cm_src=E%3Aduvet-covers (The "ticking stripe" option. Reversible to graphite gray, but maybe not the same gray as the sheets. Not flannel.) I wish I had an eye for these things! Any help appreciated.
  10. I had this problem when I was a kid. My parents would drop me at the library for a few hours, go run errands, and by the time I was done browsing I would have 15-20 books to take home with me. Basically they put me in a position to solve the problem myself and it was very efficient. :thumbup1:
  11. You can also burn downloaded audio books to CD, depending on the DRM (digital rights management) they have on them. Audible allows this, although I've never done it. Many others do too.
  12. Does your car have a tape deck? You can buy an inexpensive doohickey which has a tape at one end and a plug for your phone's audio out at the other end. You can use the car's speakers that way, which is nice for listening over road noise and in all the seats.
  13. I'll stay out of the chore discussion because I think you've gotten great advice, but I can't help adding that a pressure washer can be quite dangerous and you may want to reconsider having a 10 year old use it. Here's an article by Consumer Reports about the topic. If you look on youtube you can find videos of various injuries, plus using pressure washers to cut pumpkins, boards, etc.
  14. My friend in Baton Rouge lost her house. She's staying with church friends for now as she has no other close family in the area. I'm sorry to hear about your family. :grouphug:
  15. Tuna in pouches can be opened at the right time and added to bread. Get some mayo packets from a restaurant supply or Smart & Final if you have them. Baby carrots/broccoli florets/cauliflower florets Nut and dried fruit (raisins, raisins, apples) mix Bananas/apples/grapes Hard cheese, but only bring the amount to be eaten that day Crackers (can be eaten with cheese) Beef jerky
  16. I'm so sorry this happened. I'm glad you have this board as a resource to turn to for advice and comfort. :grouphug:
  17. I stayed up until 2:00 but it was still cloudy with no chance of clearing.
  18. I finished The Last Policeman and I'm not sure what to think. I didn't particularly like the writing, and the plot reminded me of an online RPG (role playing game) in which you wander around and meet new characters and get information. OTOH, I was intrigued by the idea of continuing to do the right thing at the end of the world: "The perseverance in this world, despite it all, of things done right." Part of it appeals to my morality and humanity, part of it to my perfectionistic tendencies. ;) And I'm interested enough in what appears to be a dangling thread (trying to be vague) to request the next book in the trilogy from the library. There are a few books I wish I could go back and read again for the first time, and this is one of them. Although I like it as an old friend as well. I do think it's McCarthy's best book, but I'd be interested to hear what you think. I enjoy hearing about your family. One of the reasons they cast Tommy Lee Jones as the sheriff in the movie is that he is from a small town in West Texas (San Saba) and I read an interview at the time about he instantly understood his role, the people, the culture the accent, etc.
  19. At a minimum I always add a glug of olive oil to give it a smoother and richer flavor and some body.
  20. As someone who is a stickler for following through, I would not follow through. I would explain in a moment of stress I had made a bad suggestion based on something he over which he has limited control and that we would all go to Six Flags if he's not too tired. It's valid to explain that and just you stay home with him as well. If he feels too tired maybe he would like if you stayed back with him and spent the day resting, talking, eating snacks, watching movies, etc. I don't think you should leave him alone. It sends the wrong message to someone suffering from anxiety and insomnia. :grouphug:
