  1. Hello Ladies ~ I live in southwest OKC, nice to meet you! I recently joined TWTM forum and was happy to see this thread as I have been exploring coops in the area. I HS my DD 11 (my one and only) and we are involved with a CC Essentials program in north OKC but wondered about coops in the South OKC/Norman area. There seem to be very few in this area. Any suggestions? Thanks! Dina :seeya:
  2. Hello ~ Ive choosen RS4K and Tiner. Would like to know what you end up with. Dina :001_smile:
  3. Hello ~ How did you do it? I just found out about it a few days ago and must have gone back to the RFW website a million times. I LOVE Rod and Staff and it is working well but . . . would love to supplement with MCT as DD's strengths are in this area and she is VERY visual and is an avid reader. Please tell me your secret! Dina
  4. Hello ~ R&S does sell workbook pages that cover most but not every chapter of the English books. I use them for reinforcement and variety. Also, much of R&S can be done orally or answers written on a white board. HTH Dina :001_smile:
  5. Hello ~ Math and Music / Math and the Cosmos by Wildridge Education Discovering the World of Geography Series by Mark Twain/Carson-Dellosa Exploring the World of Chemisrty .... by John Hudson Tiner Dina:001_smile:
  6. Hello ~ Excellent advice and suggestions from PP. We use R&S 3 for 4th also. The majority of DD's work is done orally and on white board (answers, diagramming etc.) If I find she is struggling with a concept we use the workbook pages to provide additional practice. Another tool I use is to have her teach me. DD becomes the teacher and has to explain the concept and demonstrate it on the white board. She loves to play teacher and is very effective as we remember approximately 90% of what we teach. Hope this helps, Dina:001_smile:
  7. Hello ~ I think it would depend on the program you are using. We are currently using Prima Latina by Memoria Press along with their Roots of English:Latin and Greek Roots for Beginners. It is a great foundation as the words correspond to the vocabulary found in Prima and Latina Christiana. I just purchased Vocabulary from Classical Roots for next year as the TM includes exercises that reinforce spelling and grammar rules. Hope this helps, Dina :001_smile:
  8. :bigear: Hello ~ Another who has experienced the frustration! We enrolled our DD in a well respected Christian school for second grade because she is an only child and because the school had some wonderful amenities including a "state of the art" library. The children read books and then were tested for comprehension via a computer program. My DD was so excited when we toured the school as she was reading on the eighth grade level. As the year went on I asked to see her reading record. She had been held at the second grade level! When I spoke with the headmaster about it I was told that the computer system had experienced technical problems most of the first semester and that they had few books on her level. GRRRR
  9. Mariann ~ Very sorry to hear about your DD. Sometimes I think it is as hard on the parents to see their children going through something, as it is on the child experiencing it. Best Wishes for a fast recovery! Dina
  10. Thank you for asking this question. I just learned of this curriculum today and was wondering the same thing. Dina

  12. Hi! Mexican food morning, noon, and night and Dr. Pepper! A pizza dripping with cheese and bread with butter are also pretty terrific. Dina
  13. Hi! After two sinus surgeries and sinus/allergy problems for as long as I can remember, I've found using the netting pot in the shower to be the best alternative. The steam seems to help shrink the nasal passages making the treatment more effective. My doctor has recommended using a waterpik outside of the shower. According to him the pressure is correct for the process. A word of caution... be certain to use purified water or boil your water first as water straight from the tap can cause more problems depending on your water supply. Hope this helps, Dina
  14. I'm on the floor! My DH just shakes his head at times. I tried gently tugging my DD's ear as I tell her I'm turning down the volume -- without success I might add. Thanks for a good laugh! Dina
  15. Hello ~ I picked up "The Encyclopedia of Music" by Max Wade-Matthews & Wendy Thompson at Barnes Noble for very little and have enjoyed it a great deal. You can check out reviews on amazon. Hope this helps. Dina
  16. Hello ~ My DD11 had the same problem. After much research, we selected Rod and Staff -- it has worked wonders! I also picked up Math Detective by the Critical Thinking Company although we have not needed it as yet. I plan on using it this summer as a review. Best Wishes, Dina
  17. Thanks so much for the great idea! We use the white board instead of tiles for variety, but using a different color for each sound will be extremely helpful to my DD who is primarily a visual learner.
