  1. Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and concern. I will keep you posted. Blessing to you and yours, Dina Chris ~ This family does not belong to our board. [QUOTE=Chris in VA;1550383] This board moves so fast--can someone post the link to Taryn's family? I know I've heard of them, but can't recall who it is.
  2. Unfortunately Taryn has taken a turn for the worst again. Her temperature spiked and there is a great deal of fluid on her lungs. She is back on oxygen and her veins have colapsed making it difficult for the doctors to run tests. PLEASE keep this baby in prayer. THANK YOU~ Dina
  3. :grouphug:We will be praying for comfort, strength, wisdom, and healing. Blessings~ Dina :001_smile:
  4. Good Morning ~ We have some news! Taryn is making some progress. X-rays indicate she has a large mass on her lungs but the doctors believe it is pneumonia not cancer. She also has both a kidney and bladder infection. Color and circulation have returned to her extremities and although her breathing is labored, she was taken off oxygen. Taryn also ate a small amount of food -- a good sign! She remains in isolation in the ICU. The family is extremely appreciative of your prayers and now have hope that they will not lose their litttle girl. Please keep up the prayer. Many Thanks! Dina
  5. Hello All~ I just received an urgent call from a dear friend requesting immediate prayer for her cousin's daughter. The child, Taryn (7) started running a temperature of 105 and as taken to the ER. The ER doctors said she had a virsus and to take her home, keep her medicated and put her in cool baths. Taryn started feeling better saturday then took a turn for the worst on sunday. She was admitted to the hospital and is in isolation. She is a tiny little one and has dropped a great deal of weight, her extremities are blue and her organs are starting to fail. The doctors don't have any idea what is wrong with her. The family would sincerely appreciate prayer for their precious little girl. Thank you~ Dina
  6. Good Morning~ I was pleased to see your review as we are currently using Rod and Staff through 7th then plan to use Lial's BCM. Here is a link for Lial's algebra. It is difficult to read, but you can at least get an idea of what the whole page looks like. http://lialalgebra.com/ Thanks for the post! Dina :001_smile: *Lial has several different algebra books with various authors and editions. ** Jann helped me with the plan stated above -- she's the best!
  7. Thank you for sharing, this looks great! Dina :001_smile:
  8. Hello ~ I'll preface my answer by stating the obvious: Not every program is what is best for every child and just because something is the flavor of the month doesn't mean it is the best . . . My DD 11 is an avid reader and tested at the eight grade level in second grade. We used ABEKA for her. I kept the ABEKA series in case I ever teach any younger children again. Best Wishes, Dina :001_smile:
  9. Hello ~ In answer to your questions. My 8 year old (will be 9 in the summer and will be in 4th grade next year) is a great reader, slightly below grade level speller with good handwriting, but not great "writing skills." Will AAS cover more than just spelling or will I need a separate grammar program for him? Separate. We have had great success with Rod and Staff. It is through but gentle and much can be done orally. Analytical Grammar is also very through. I want to do Igniting Your Writing with him. It seems like a good program to begin with. You might consider Writing Tales as it incorporates review of grammar, spelling, dictation which may strenghten his skills. http://writing-tales.com/ Should I start him in AAS Level 1 and move at a faster pace than his sister or should I start in a different level since he's a good reader? Start him in AAS Level 1 and move at a faster pace. He needs to get a feel of the program and it should build his confidence. My DD is an avid reader but can't spell. I am pairing AAS with Megawords for reinforcement. Some do it concurrently AAS2 and Megawords1 and other complete all AAS then follow with MW. Secondly, my dd2 will be 6 1/5 and in 1st grade in the fall. I want to start her out in AAS Level 1 and continue to use ETC with her. I will be adding in the Beehive Reader that AAS has available. I do not know what ETC is. Should I still do a handwriting program with her? Yes, HWWT is all the rage, but I used ABEKA with DD 11 and she was writing beautifully in cursive by second grade. She attended two different schools and all her teachers commented on her handwriting. Anything else for grammar? Rod and Staff or FLL. Best Wishes, Dina :001_smile:
  10. Hello ~ My thoughts exactly! We are going to use Writing Tales II next year which are based on fairy tales but they seem quite gentle. We are studying ancient civilizations this year but my DD didn't like Greek mythology (gave her nightmares) so we didn't continue. I am uncertain about the suggestions you are following but you may want to look at Writing Tales I and use it for your needs and/or keep it when your DC begin writing. Blessings, Dina :001_smile:
  11. Hello ~ We would not be half as far in geography, math or grammar without music! I highly recommend the Troxel line. I would encourage you to purchase something that has the words printed out to use until the songs have been learned. We had trouble with Veritas Press CDs because we couldn't make out some of the words to the songs. Also, the more multisensory, the better the material is retained. HTH, Dina :001_smile:
  12. Thanks, I did already. I just wanted to try both avenues. Thanks! Dina :001_smile:
  13. Hello ~ Will anyone be selling Meaningful Composition 5 1st semester in the next week or so? I just wanted to ask before purchasing. Please PM me if you will be selling thanks! Dina :001_smile:
  14. Hello~ I like to use Veritas Press Cards. Simply laminate them and they can be used to make a timeline, play games, or review. Dina :001_smile:
  15. Hello ~ I just purchased both the U.S. and World. Can't wait to start! We are currently using CD songs by Troxel along with other sources and will continue to next year as well. Just pop them in CD (home or car) -- you'll be surprised how fast the kids learn. If you do decide on them, I highly recommend buy the CD with the book. Dina :001_smile:
  16. :iagree: ~ except I only have one child! :001_smile: Wish every curriculum worked so well!
  17. Hello ~ Would you please tell me what you liked/didn't like about Meaningful Composition? THANKS! Dina :001_smile:
  18. :grouphug: I am with you --although we are making progress. Sometimes it is just a matter of intellectual maturity. Don't be suprised when she "gets it" consistantly out of the blue. Best wishes, Dina
  19. Hello ~ I suggest laminating it by sections and using the spongy adhesive squares by 3M as they remove easily. Hope this helps, Dina :001_smile:
