  1. So I am wondering, I like the look of MoH and HO....so I am torn...I may do one for one grade and one for the other to see which one works best but that isn't the main reason for my post. :D I know that SOTW goes over it but whether you go with MoH or MO it seems that the upper grades are lacking after the Middle Ages or so. I realize this is the K-8th grade board but I am looking at 7th grade and beyond. I like the intensity of HO but I don't want to vigorous. Something that goes over Modern Times, not just US History but world history as well. Any suggestions??:bigear: :grouphug::grouphug:
  2. If I had to use a different math besides Saxon I would go with Teaching Textbooks. It is pricey but I would think worth it with the dvd's showing each problem.
  3. Hi! :seeya: Personally I like Saxon Math myself. Saxon uses mastery and if she has learning disabilities then that sounds like it is good. It will help her remember. I too am switching from A Beka Language. I find the sentence diagramming tedious myself (hated it in school...still do :tongue_smilie:). We are switching to Learning Literature through Language Arts. My kids love to read and I think this program will be best. English/Language Arts is a hard one because it is always tedious (to me..I am not strong in English). Finding a simple program hasn't been easy for me. I eally am not much help there. History I use Story of the World and books. Lots of books. We use Sonlight Core so we get lots of history. I am considering Mystery of History as well. My kids love history too. If she likes hands on try using some books for history and do lapbooks. Again my kids love them. You can do the same with science. I use Apologia and the lapbook CD's that go with them. I know you didn't want to switch science but you can incorporate lapbooks with any curriculum you are doing. Feel free to PM me if you want any more iinfo or have nay questions! :grouphug::grouphug:
  4. French Dip - Tried, True, Loved...have fixed more than once! :001_smile: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Easy-Slow-Cooker-French-Dip/Detail.aspx Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast - Again, Tried, True, Loved...have fixed more than once!! http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Awesome-Slow-Cooker-Pot-Roast/Detail.aspx :grouphug::grouphug:
  5. For mine it depends on what they are doing and how long they take for each. I try to keep it 4-5 hours through out the day. Sometimes it is more if they seem to want to dilly dally :001_smile:. Sometime shorter if they hunker down. We don't sit for that long, we do an hour here an hour and a half there. It breaks it up and keeps them interested. :grouphug::grouphug:
  6. I chose other...whats cleaning out a refrigerator mean? ;) :grouphug::grouphug:
  7. Really?? Cool! When did they change it? I have a Premier acct too and the last time I used it (last spring) I was getting charged for everything! I quit using it. :grouphug::grouphug:
  8. :iagree::iagree: You are so right, people are insulted by the way you look let alone the way you talk...or exercise. People are entrenched in legalism,and if you ask me it is legalistic to think that Yoga is anti-Christian or any such thing. Technically Easter is Pagan. Technically Halloween is Pagan. Technically Easter is Pagan. Technically Christmas is Pagan. Technically Yoga is Hindu. Pretty much anything we celebrate has Pagan roots yet we still celebrate them. Even if you don't put up a Christmas tree are you participating in any events? My point is we can become way to legalistic in what we do, to the point where we don't do anything. I don't choose to live that way. I will do Yoga if I like, I will watch Harry Potter, I will read my bible and pray to my God. I am not going to be offended at other people because they suggest something that I may deem offensive to my sensibilities. How do they know you don't like it unless they ask? Anyhow my 2+ cents. :grouphug::grouphug:
  9. It is funny to see someone from TN want to come over here to WNC when I love going over to TN. I love the Smokies. I would love to live near them in the outskirts of Knoxville but we can't move just yet! :001_smile:
  10. Perhaps I should have been a little more specific :) I am talking about the multimedia CD, not the full course or text book on CD. It is usually priced between 10-15. Any insight is wonderful! :grouphug::grouphug:
  11. Are these really needed? What is on them? Thank you! :grouphug::grouphug:
  12. Besides homeschooling my husband and I both go to college online. We buy college books online used..because it is MUCH cheaper than buying from the school. My hubby's books new would have cost over $200, we got them for about $50. We have bought from Alibris, BookByte, Amazon, Half, Ebay, Abebooks, Biblio and probably a myriad of others I can't remember. I have never had (knock on wood! :D) a problem with anything. I look for homeschool stuff as well but they aren't always cheaper, especially after shipping. Hope this helps you!
  13. I have to say it.....our government has been and supposedly is highly educated, where has that gotten us? :tongue_smilie: You have to maintain a 2.0 grade point average to keep your fin aid. It is easy to get lost in a sea of responses and lose sight of the original post... If you have proper documentation you get to go, if you don't you don't get to go. Why does it have to be complicated? :grouphug::grouphug:
  14. My daughter started her love of reading with the Magic Tree House books. She has since read every book we have ever gotten, I can't keep her out of them! She stays up reading by the glow of her alarm clock! :grouphug::grouphug:
  15. I used the Moby wrap with my baby until he was about 12 months old then went to a mei tai. Although he is 19 mo now and I still stick him in the Moby...he loves it. The only problem I have with the mei tai is it really hurts my shoulders after awhile. My son is 29 pounds and it really pulls. If I could get much wider straps to go over my shoulders to spread some of the weight it would be better. Little TMI here but I can't wear the mei tai crossed over my chest...I am about a DDD and it just is unseemly. If I could get s snug hold with the moby with him on my back I would never use anything else. The Ella Roo (I think thats what it's called) is like the Moby but much more expensive. There is also the sleepy wrap..again like the moby. If you choose the moby send me a PM I have great instructions on how to use it! Oh...if you go with the moby..indigo isn't indigo..its blue :) I wanted indigo..you know kinda a purplish blue...nope..it was blue...like a slate blue almost. So I got a red too. Love the red...nice deep but not dark red :) :grouphug::grouphug:
  16. Kenny Chesney - Summertime... And it's two bare feet on the dashboard Young love and an old Ford Cheap shades and a tattoo And a Yoo-Hoo bottle on the floorboard Perfect song on the radio Sing along 'cause it's one we know It's a smile, it's a kiss It's a sip of wine, it's summertime Sweet summertime Kenny Chesney and Uncle Kracker - When the sun goes down Cause when the sun goes down, we'll be groovin' When the sun goes down, we'll be feelin' all right When the sun sinks down, over the water Everything gets hotter when the sun goes down. Yeah! :grouphug::grouphug:
  17. This is a post from last year but I am interested in any updates on this. How were the notebooks? Did anyone see the notebooks compared to the lapbooks? I am torn between the two...the lapbooks look like fun but the notebooks look comprehensive. Anyone? :001_smile: :grouphug::grouphug:
  18. My son gets about 10 hours, he goes right to sleep when he goes to bed, for the part. My daughter? I have no idea, she goes to bed but she is up all hours reading. I can't tell you how many times I have taken anything and everything she can use for light out of her room. She has even used the glow of her alarm clock! I would love to get them in bed by 9 and up by 8...if I do it will be by fighting tooth and nail. :grouphug::grouphug:
  19. How old are the kids you are using it with? :grouphug::grouphug:
  20. Ok so I have been looking at different History programs, I can't tell which one is better. Can anyone give me some reviews if they have used one the other or both?:bigear: I have read that MOH can be over simplistic. Perhaps not so good in the upper levels of Elementary (maybe spilling into Middle). So that leads me to HO which has different levels for different grades (or age level). So many choices...what's a mom to do? :001_huh: :grouphug::grouphug:
  21. Harry Potter movies Pirates of the Caribbean 1 & 2 Lord of the Rings Trilogy Star Wars Trilogy LOVE the above movies Exorcist - hate it, but I saw it once and it still terrifies me. Any horror movie I can't stand :tongue_smilie: :grouphug::grouphug:
  22. :iagree: I am going to look at everything now. :iagree: I don't even buy food from China if I can help it. And fish...we love fish but pretty much all of it is from China and I won't buy it. :iagree::iagree: While I don't want government intervention everywhere in business (or life for that matter) the FDA should have the power to come down on these manufacturers! :grouphug::grouphug:
  23. Nope....I have only watched enough of the audition episodes to know who Wliiam Hung is and that's it. Although I do like Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson :001_smile: :grouphug::grouphug:
  24. Neither of my sons are circ'd. I have heard horror stories and my husband and I both opted to not do that to our babies. *I* didn't care if the baby didn't remember, I would :tongue_smilie:. The other reason we didn't is because no one could give us a medical reason why it was needed other than tradition. Welp didn't need to alter me boys in that fashion when it isn't medically needed. :grouphug::grouphug:
  25. Whats a front loader? ;) I only dream of owning one...red :D :grouphug::grouphug:
