  1. We have a used book sale every year here and it is very well received. You get great deals because no shipping or prep involved! Just register bring your stuff and go! ...You have to register so the place that hosts the event knows how many tables to set up. :grouphug::grouphug:
  2. I had a rag as a gas cap....no kidding, I kept losing my gas cap and got tired of buying them....it was a 67 Ford Falcon with a 289 under the hood...Man I miss that car! Really? Why I do declare I have moved up! :D (no worries folks, I live in back woods NC so I can say these thing...and yes I live in a mobile home...a double wide tyvm;)) :grouphug::grouphug:
  3. :iagree: My son had a bit of a hard time reading too...now granted he has been wearing glasses since he was 18 months old (he has a couple issues, wears a +650 and +550). However, even though he wears glasses he was still having trouble, he could read and "figure out" what it said but give the same word in two different sentences and he would say two different words depending on context. He has since been in vision therapy and has made leaps and bounds because he knows how to use his eyes (one of his issues was communication between the brain and eyes). Might be something to check! Hope this helps...not put added worry :) Remember...vision is a correctable thing! :grouphug::grouphug:
  4.:lol::lol: Y'all ever been called rednecks? You might be a redneck if.... Awesome! :grouphug::grouphug:
  5. I know that oatmeal is good for skin, maybe an oatmeal soap and she can carry it in a bag with to wash with. Then perhaps a lotion that she can use. My doctor has eczema and she said she used Aquafor all the time. Being a doctor she washes her hands a dozen (at least) a day. I bought some but after looking at the ingredients it is mostly petroleum jelly (Vaseline) so we just buy generic now. My daughter and son have eczema just not on the hands, we use hydrocortizone (sp?) and that helps. Poor baby, hopefully she can get some relief:grouphug: :grouphug::grouphug:
  6. Woot :w00t: for me! I have fianlly found a good use for all those pesky twist ties that I always have! Repairing my sons glasses! The screw came out of the part that hold one of the lenes in and I was able to use a twist tie to keep it together until we go to his Dr. on Monday! Woohoo! :hurray: Share ladies (and gents) you twist tie tales! :grouphug::grouphug:
  7. I generally have to "force" math and language arts. I have come to the realization that I will always have to "force" math. They both know they need it but still don't like doing it (well until they learn how then it 's fine!) I have tried 4 different curriculum's and still the same result. We have decided to stick with Saxon because it goes where we want to go and the price is right. We are going to attempt some lapbooking today...see how that goes. I want to start the Apologia Zoology series with my son (daughter will of course join in because she loves the Apologia stuff) and I think he will really enjoy lapbooking. I have switched my language arts program, again, and hopefully this will be the last. They both enjoy the reading aspect of things so I have tried to build off that. It has been a long road though, and I have one more coming up...he already likes book so hopefully it will be an easy transition for him!
  8. Or start thinking about next year!!:001_huh:
  9. We have! One day after picking up from break the baby gets sick with a fever...puts us two days behind. Grrr Now we have to play catch up....I like keeping my schedule! :grouphug::grouphug:

  11. Ok here it goes for me... Year 1 - Lifepacs/Horizon Math....was new to homeschooling and there were in the budget. My daughter blew through them like nothing. Didn't use them again. We did like Horizons. Year 2 - BJU with Horizon Math- Thought I had hit on something great, loved it....at first. The dd started glazing but we kept trucking. Year 3 - BJU again, no Horizon, wasn't pleased realy but was sooo intimidated by everything else. SL looked confusing...all those books! Same for Beautiful Feet! Had heard of A Beka but only in the realm of private school really. Never had heard of Saxon, Apologia, Charlotte Mason, R&S...so on....just didn'y know! Year 4 - /sigh Bought BJU again, dreaded it, hated it, trudged through 3 months and finally saw the light. Went to a new friend and homeschoolers house and she was using Saxon, Apologia and MFW. I was dumbfounded. That was a December and by Feb we had all new stuff. Tried to keep using some BJU just because we bought it but...bought BF instead. My kids ate up the books....which lead me to SL. Year 5/Current - You can see what we are doing now in my sig...SL, Saxon, Apologia, LLATL, Latin, Writing Strands...etc... My kids still groan at school work but it is easier, much easier, to get them interested now. I don't think I'll be switching up.....until next year maybe hehe :grouphug::grouphug:
  12. Haha, half way here and already have bought stuff for next year. Lets see I switched math, language and science. The rest is the same. I don't thing it is over panning it is a case of...lets get it done! :grouphug:
  13. :iagree::iagree: Wow I do the same thing with lists..I shudder to think of the trees I have gone through! My bummer is no matter how many lists I make (lists for the lists) I still can't get through them.:glare: :grouphug::grouphug:
  14. Ooohh a awesome Cinnamon Roll recipe I have made several times is called Clone of a Cinnabon...go to allrecipes.com and type it in. Ohhh mmmmm. Oh and one other note on diets... DO NOT go to the grocery store hungry....nuff said. :grouphug::grouphug:
  15. Ok Ladies this conversation has got to stop! You are going to motivate me to clean house and I dun wanna...you have me looking around and thinking "uh boy". Bah think I'll just go to WalMart and get a book on organizing :D Really though I want that book The House That Cleans Itself, I wonder if WalMart carries it? :D :grouphug::grouphug:
  16. :grouphug::grouphug: Hit CTRL on your keyboard and scroll up with the mousewheel. That will make the font bigger. I can see fine and I do it because I hate having to sit too close to the screen. Now I will say when you do this the whole webpage scales with the print but it does provide less eyestrain :001_smile: As for arranging my home. Well I have just about 1100 sq ft. That leaves no room for rearrangement. We usually eat in the living room because the "dining" room table is piled with school stuff from the day and I don't want to search for it the next day. We basically put things where they will fit. For instance in my sons closet is an old drawer set that we use for our supply "closet". I have a small shelf set sitting on top of the entertainment center for books and what not. My kids have book shelves in their rooms for overflow and books they love. So for us it is not unlike a puzzle. "Hmmm will this fit here? HONEY! GET ME THE MEASURING TAPE!" :D :grouphug::grouphug:
  17. How important are these anyway? I can't stand them, neither can my daughter and to be honest, no matter how much I look at them I can't make heads nor tales out of them. Do you do them, skip them or looked at them furtively and pretend you don't see them? On another note.....any decent, user friendly grammar websites out there?
  18. When I go to a medical Doctor I usually have something wrong with me or need a check-up. Not just to get on a plane to fly somewhere. Medical personnel go to lots and lots of school and pay lots and lots of money to get a Doctorate or a nursing degree. They are getting paid a bit more to be professional. The people who will be screening will more than likely be low wage workers (not disparaging low wage workers, I am one myself...oh wait I am unemployed so they make more than me! :D). It isn't the same at all as a medical professional. Now granted after day after day and month after month they would get bored with it, however that still isn't really the point (well unless it is a minor and that was addressed before). My point is how many more freedoms are we going to get taken away for national security. The only way to truly keep our country safe is to act on information given. To subject everyday citizens to scrutiny like Quad Shot Academy went though is abhorrent. That shouldn't be happening. Profiling is a dangerous subject I know however there are clues and certain things to look for, granny and mom with kids aren't some of them. Truth is there isn't going to be anyway to truly know if anything is going to happen, no matter what security measures are there someone somewhere will try and succeed to get thorough. It may take time but it will happen. Meanwhile we go on like lemmings and just follow what the government tells us is good for us. Yea and they know what they are doing.
  19. Well it happened twice and now things seem to be working again...glitch must be it......unless it is something more sinister :tongue_smilie:
  20. :iagree: HOWEVER....with all the other gruesome movies that Hollywood (or where ever) puts out, seems that a suicide in a bathtub is small potatoes. HOWEVER again...could be a rating thing, I know movies will downplay scenes and cut things out to get a lower rating to market to a bigger crowd. :grouphug::grouphug:
  21. Is there a limit to the number of posts we can do in a day? I have tried to post a couple times and it says it needs to be approved my a moderator. They were benign posts I assure you. I did PM admin about it but just wondering if anyone else has ever ad the issue? Thanks! Update: Ok this post went through fine, but when I respond it does it...hmmmm..
