  1. Thanks, Merry. You do havd great ideas I can borrow. I have shoe boxes that look similar to yours that I bought at Walmart a while ago. They seem to work. Thanks again. J
  2. I will keep an eye on this when we start French. Thanks, J
  3. Bill, What grade level would you use these for? Can I use them for my 2nd and 4th graders? Thanks, J
  4. I did take melatonin last night after two hours wide awake in bed. It made me drowsy for a minute or two and then I was back to wide eyed wakefulness. Anyone else, please? I talked to a lady the same age as me who mentioned she also has sleep problem. She says that she sleeps 4 hours a night now. She also mentions that exercise 30 minutes a day helps. I climb 700 to 900 stairs or jump rope or kick feathered hacksack over half an hour a day. Just now I climbed 960 stairs. My period came yesterday. I wonder if that has anything to do with it, but I usually don't have noticeable uneasiness before period.
  5. This suddenly started: For the last three nights, I couldn't fall asleep and only slept one hour each night between 6am and 7am. I dread another night without sleep. Please help. Do you have good remedies or advice for me? I am 43 years old. I have experienced hotflashes for a few months now and my period cycles are shorter than before. I know I am going through perimenopause. I can deal with hotflashes better than insomnia. Thank you for your help. I did search this forum for related threads but didn't find much. J
  6. Can you try L'Art de Dire or L'Art de Lire by then? I am tempted to try L'Art de Dire, but it is a little expensive. I will have to take time to think a little. I will have a look at Ecoutez, Parlez. Thanks, J
  7. Thank you all so much for the encouragement. I will use a timer and do 15 per kid or both together to start with since ds 5.8 spells very well. I have high hopes for this program and will share with you how it goes after I use it for a while. J
  8. I think IP is harder than CWP too. Now I will need to find those old CWPs. Can you point me to where to find them or will you sell yours to me? In the month of August, I was truly tempted to switch to Math Mammoth because of the rave reviews on the forum and my ds's difficulty getting all the mulptilication facts down. I am very glad we didn't switch. Now he is doing well. Younger ds is doing very well with Singapore. Thanks for sharing your options and I do want to add CWP now. J
  9. Thanks for the post. We are doing SOTW 2 and will sure make use of your plan somehow. J
  10. Thank you very much for posting your ideas. I especially like the ones that are your personal favorites because they are tried and loved, right? I will try some of them, but first of all I need to buy a bigger crockpot. Mine is only 3 quarts and doesn't hold much. I will request it as a Christmas gift from my in-laws. J
  11. Thanks for your response, Julie. What program will you use after this one? We are finishing up Song School Latin and I feel like introducing a modern language before going to serious Latin study. I already bought Latin for Children A. We are studying Mandarin because I am a native speaker. I just would like my boys to learn some French too. J
  12. Merry, Thank you! You have very good advice for me. I will implement it. I am looking forward (a little nervously) to using this program. I need to find containers for those cards. J
  13. My ds8 saw the AAS 2 I just received yesterday and said, "It's easy." Well, it is easy and I am sure he can spell all the words without knowing the rules. But I like that the program has very clear open/close syllable instruction. I am still waiting for AAS 1 to arrive. I will use these two levels with both dss. I am tired of the Sequential Spelling's lists of words without explicit rules and when ds doesn't know how to spell the words, he cries each time. So I hope AAS is our final stop for shopping for spelling. It does look teacher intensive, but if it produces good results, then it is worth it. I wonder how I can break up each STEP so that we do a reasonable amount of work each day. J
  14. I have been using IP from 1A to 3A now, but only used CWP 2. I feel that IP has a lot of word problems already. Should I use CWP too? I am just debating. Now that we spent extra weeks on mastering mulptilication, we are already doing 3A TB and WB (standard editon) for 7 months. It is hard to add much more. When you are running short of time, do you choose one of the two to do, (IP and CWP) or would you still do both? I also have ds do one page of MEP a day for fun. Does anyone use only the main TB, WB, and CWP without IP? Would that be a better way? J
  15. I really want to use our crock pot more often especially now that the weather is so cold. I want to save time and have an unhurried afternoon. Please share your own easy crock pot recipes that you and your children both like. We usually eat ground turkey, chicken, shrimp, fish and pork for meat. We usually don't like beef much. Thank you!
  16. http://homeschoolhelperonline.com/notebooking_history_geography.htm A friend sent me this link. It looks wonderful! Hope you also like it! J
  17. What wonderful lists! I will have my 3rd grader read these. He is turning 8 in 10 days!
  18. I have been thinking of using somepoetry element in my homeschool. I need to look up these great ideas. J
  19. I am interested in adding French to my 3rd grader's language study after his Song School Latin. How is Ecoutez? Thanks, June
  20. I am using the Grade 1 spelling list for my 5 yr old and he is flying through it. If I didn't slow down he would have finished it by now. However, that said, my older son who is turning 8 in a few days isn't doing well with Sequential Spelling and I have searched how and low and finally decided to try AAS. I am buying/bought AAS 1 and AAS 2 and will start from the begining. Ds 5 will also start from the beginning. I want them to have a solid spelling program that we can follow without having to switch to another program. J
  21. I would start 7 yr olds with WWE 1. We didn't choose to do WWE until Dc was 7.5 and we started with WWE 1 and he did well. I don't think it is good to start with WWE 2, especially if the child hasn't done long sentence dictation. The dictation sentences get long pretty fast in WWE 2. I am glad my ds is 8 and is just starting WWE 2. Hope this helps with your decision. J
  22. Ds8 is not a good speller. But he knows all the words in SSL and reads them with no problem. Is that ok, or should I require him to be able to spell them before we move on with Latin? He is three lessons short of completing. What do you do? I am thinking of moving to Getting Started with Latin before we do LfC A. J
  23. We are doing Sequential Spelling 1 with ds 8 and will finish it in a few weeks. However, I am not happy with the result and I have been researching other programs. I have my eyes on AAS. So which level should he start with? What do I need? I have a younger ds turning 6 soon, so I can buy AAS 1 and 2 and do it with both of them, or let the older ds do it at a faster pace and finish 2 or more levels in a year. Please advice what I should get to complete this program. Also if you have the complete set for sale, let me know. Thanks for your help, J
  24. We started the Peg system last Monday, and the boys do the Bible reading and devotional on their own and have a better attitude in general and my house is cleaner and nicer. Both refused to have allowances. They'd rather save enough green chips for a privilege or a building project with dad. Do your kids not want allowances? What do you do in this case? My older ds has learned to be very thrifty with money; maybe that is why he doesn't want "free" money?
