  1. Ds still can't get addition and subtracting with numbers over 10 or with sums more then 10. We did SM 1A last spring, got stuck at these lessons, finished the book, did the lessons again, still no dice, spent the summer working through MM add and sub books, did some miquon, and some more RS A, mixed in flash cards and really worked on number bonds. He can do number bonds, all the flash cards, so we tried the lessons again, and now we can get through them, but when given a problem to work through like 6+7 he blanks. What do I do now? Do I move on to 1B and hope it clicks? Do I go sideways again with MM 1A? I am frustrated, he is frustrated. Math is not going well at the moment. I don't know what to do. Thanks!
  2. I so feel your pain, we are from Ohio too, and are in el paso for now. It's just seems like it would be so much easier in Ohio, I think it's because we rant as familiar with the nature here. Have you tried any local park programs? We have gone to a few, and it has helped some, also we only nature study in the spring and fall, it's just toonhot in the summer, and nothing to look at in the winter. I miss my wildflowers, and birds and bugs......and trees and grass...and LOL I could go on and on......good luck!
  3. DS is big on rules. When we did lesson 90 today, he was mad! And I quote:"how am I supposes to know when ea says long a and when ea says long e?". Well dear child I don't know, so we tabled the lesson, and I need some sort of rule for him. I can't really find one. Is this how opgtr will be for the rest of the book? Do I need to find a different program? He loves rules. He has done very well to this point. TIA! Melissa
  4. We are using: oPGTR,sunlight readers 1 and 2 Singapore 1b and 2a HWT 1 SSL Beg. Geography from Evan moor Elemental histories new American history Elemental science intro to science Lots of books too! DS will also be in junior first form Lego and Chinese Sunday school. And maybe piano......
  5. Yes and no in regards to the prek teaching her these things. Because of her delays slot of stuff goes right over her head, she isn't processing things well, and they will pull her out of class everyday to work on speech and ot in addition to the therapy that I will have at the house. Also here the prek focuses on pre reading skills, with a main focus on sight words. The goal being foe them to go into k sounding out words. She is nowhere ready for that, and she has to be in the regular class, so will just continue to fall further and further behind, so I really feel like to give her any chance at succeeding in public school, I need to catch her up as fast as I can. The problem with the things u mentioned isthatthey aren't very portable, except for the books, and I really need to be portable.
  6. Oh wise one.....I need help. I have a 3.75 year old foster daughter, she will be here at least a year, she is very delayed in speech and and has a lot of confidence issues. She will be in play therapy one hour a week, and has speech therapy two hours a week and occupational therapy one hour a week. This fall she will go to either public prek or headstart. She is very behind, she has basically very little academic skills. She will be going to kindergarten in the fall of 2012. I did very little in terms of preschool with my son, and am not sure what is the best program to use. She is very much still and older toddler, but she will be in a regular classroom, I want to help her the best I can with these skills, what is the best way to do this. I know that most of what there'll be doing in her prek class will go over Bernese, and will keep putti ghee whine her peers. I need away to get her at least up on colors, animals, some letters, cutting, pasting and the like as quick as possible before school starts in about 8weeks. Anyone have any ideas? It would be great if it was portable, it must be laid out and to the point. I don't have year to do this, unwed to bring her up to speed as quick as I can. We often school inthecar orat the coffee shop while my other foster visit with family or have their own therapy sessions. So portable is very important. We will be doing briar and fair starting in July, so she I'll be getting that, but I do need something to help ASAP. I really fear that she will be one that gets lost in school, she is so quiet and timid, she never speaks up. Any and all ideas welcome! Thanks so much!
  7. this is xactly what I have been dreaming of, and the price is great! Thanks for sharing!!!

  9. Hello all, I need help with logic type workbooks or activites for my son, he is almost 5 and loves any puzzle game or workbook, in the last two months he has run through mindbenders 1 and lollipop logic, he has played through clever castle, rush hour jr, and frog hoppers jr, but the non jr versions are a bit much for him. he is asking for more things like these, but I am having trouble finding more games or workbooks for him. anyone have any ideas? it would be great if I didnt have to read it for him, he can read, but not great. he is about a third through OPGTR, and is just finsihing up SL Readers 1. Thanks! Melissa
  10. Thanks! I do have Miquon orange and the rods, I will pull it out and do that for awhile. I'm not at all panicky about it, I just want to make sure we do it the best way possible! Thanks so much your math advice has been a great help to me!
  11. I have been following this thread with much interest, my son is almost finished with 1A, We have been camping out and working on number bonds, becasue its seemed very hard for him to regroup when he didnt know that 5 and 2 was 7. so please correct me if I am wrong. Before we move on he should know all the number bonds to 10. right now he can do to 5 easily 6,7, 10 ok and not 8 or 9. Should I make sure we know these before doing 1B? or should we keep moving on and working them on the side? we have been using MM addition RS games and some online stuff. DO I have this right?
  12. My son loves his puzzle games like clever castle, hoppers jr, and chocolate fix, but we are out of space for more games, and we arent willing to sell what we have. he has mastered clever castle, is half way through hoppers jr, and finds it easy, and is half way through chocolate fix, but is begining to find it hard. i would love to have a workbook thats the same kinda of puzzles and stuff. anyone know any good ones? He is a begining reader, i am willing to read him the directions, so if you know one for older kids that might work let me know too! Thanks so much!
  13. We will be starting K next year: OPGTR/HOP Singapore 2/MM/Lentil Get a grip/ Algebraic thinking for K-2 BFSU Homemade early American History FLL1/2 an unknown writing program???? Better Chinese/ saturday school informal Spanish SSL seems like a lot, but its really ony 1.5 hours a day
  14. :bigear: Bump as I would love to know too!
  15. Ds doesn't have whims, he makes decisions and then does them, he is very decisive, and I have actually put him off of Chinese for a good six months. I think I will go look at the language academy and see the class. Since he wouldn't start until fall I will have to look at both classes a 3-5 year old class and a k-3rd class and decide the best fit.
  16. so I had a plan...I was doing Song school latin, and a light spanish next year ( and now), and DS has just informed me that he wants to learn chinese. I dont have a problem doing chinese, its just that I dont really want to drop the other two. so I have some choices.... I could do better chinese, with a weekly chinese class either at the college or the language academy. I can do spanish at the college or langauage academy I can do both in curriculum but not at the schools I could do spanish at home and do chinese through a class or I could both at home and at school. I am not dropping latin, we are moving to latin centered, and I want to start latin now. so anythoughts? I already have a spanish curriculum, and I would really like to do spanish as we live in a border town, and its useful, and we have lots of people to practice with at the moment. I dont want to miss a moment of really wanting to do something for my son, so if he wants chinese I feel like i should do it.
