  1. I think it depends on the editions and whether or not your child does well with mastery or spiral. I tried levels A & B of the previous edition with DD but found it moved a little too fast through the concepts (example memorizing the addition facts in a couple weeks). One chapter per concept was not enough time for my dd, but for a child who thrives with mastery (or if you can provide the necessary review) MCP would probably be a good fit. I did find the teachers manual for both levels on Paperback Swap so you might check there first if you are a member.
  2. The only MH workbooks for elementary I know about are these There are some for grades 6-12 too.
  3. My dd is 9 and she LOVES it. She has decided that if she cannot be a veterinarian she wants to be an engineer! Our ds is 18 and he got her hooked on it when he bought himself a membership. She has started using unifix cubes to build the stuff she makes on MC. I find the strangest characters on our kitchen table :D
  4. We have a Boston Champion pencil sharpener (link is to eBay). It has a self feeding grip that holds the pencil so no more broken tips or prematurely-shortened pencils from too much pressure :D. My dad got it about 50 years ago but if you can find one in working condition, you will NEVER want another sharpener again!
  5. There are dozens of games listed by grade on Internet for Classrooms. Head of the Class is a complete online curriculum for prek- 5th (will go to 8th eventually). You can set the lessons for only math and include several grade levels, if you wish. Really awesome site! I forgot to mention it is free :001_smile:
  6. I completely rearranged it. I have the 2006 IG and it is SO choppy (and I know WHY it is choppy but I simply can't stand it). Besides, I prefer the books from the 2006 version. The Kids Can Press books are some of my dd's favorites. Basically, I went through all the scheduled books and rewrote them where I thought they should go (dd did not like coloring a flamingo picture or doing a zebra craft while reading a story about wolves lol). Then, I searched my library's database for additional books to read every week (and a few videos here & there). I checked online for worksheets, coloring pages, and as many crafts as I could find because dd thrives on hands-on stuff. Finally I made a new IG that stretched it over 2+ years using all the additional resources I found. We spend about 2 weeks on every animal of the week (my dd decided when she was 3 that she was going to be a vet ;)). We put together a lapbook when she is finished with each theme. Now if WP's guides were ALL like the one I made :D. I did the same thing with QMA & QAW because we wanted to study them chronologically and I added in tons of extras. I have tons of links. If you would like them, PM me your email address and I will send them to you (I'd post them here but there are so many it gives me an error message).
  7. I was just on their site and it seems to working fine. Were you going to clp.org? Here is a direct link to Math (all grade levels). Maybe they were updating their site or something.
  8. If you are just looking to add in additional reading and/or crafts, the best site is A Book in Time. They list books chronologically sorted by age (from K-high school) & even post a little review of each one. They also have links to maps, timelines, and online games to play. It is a free site, which makes it even better! Another site is Paula's Archives (there are lists of literature & movies for History & Science & Math).

  10. If he can use the computer, register at The Head of the Class. It is a FREE complete curriculum for Prek-5th with worksheets, activities, experiments, videos, stories, etc, for every subject. You can customize each subject for any level he would need. So you could have 3rd grade reading, 1st grade art, 2nd grade math, K science: whatever grade level he is in for each subject. The best part is that it is FREE! :D Even if he only did it until you are feeling better, it would definitely keep him constructively busy and entertain him at the same time (my ds started to think TV was his mom/dad when I was pregnant with dd & had hyperemesis gravidarum, so don't feel bad about too much TV time :grouphug:)
  11. I'm not Merry but we do MOH with books from SL, WP, TOG, VP, etc. I found plenty of files on the MOH yahoo group that schedule different books (movies too) for each MOH lesson, just not all in one lesson plan (if that makes any sense). So, I wrote the books we wanted to read into my own planner using suggestions from about a dozen different schedules. I'd give you a copy but it's handwritten (sorry but I've been meaning to get it into the computer but life keeps getting in the way :tongue_smilie:) Oh yeah, you can find a plethora of readers listed chronologically at A Book in Time and another site has book/movie suggestions here OOH! I almost forgot. Jenn has a schedule for Ancient History that has some WONDERFUL books scheduled. I'm not sure if it is still up on her site but if not, she will send it to you if you contact her!!
  12. :grouphug: Totally OT, I see in your siggy that you have an 18yo. My oldest turned 18 in Nov :crying: How can my little baby boy be an adult???? I can close my eyes & remember the way his clean little head smelled (used to drive dh batty cuz I spent all day sniffing his head). Now all I smell is cologne & gym socks that never seem to be clean no matter how much they are washed :tongue_smilie: And when did I become old enough to have a grown-up for a child??? Not ME! I have a document somewhere in my computer full of links. If I forget to post it in the next day or so & you want more links, give me a swift kick or something so I can give you the rest of them :D
  13. Internet 4 classrooms has online games arranged by grade subject (link is to 3rd grad LA). Head of the Class is a complete curriculum for prek-5 BUT you can set it so a student only does reading/phonics/etc.. Oops gotta check brownies be back with more in a bit!
  14. I taught ss 20+ years ago in an AoG church (before I had any kids) and it was like that back THEN! When my ds was old enough to attend ss, I decided it was time to change churches. Unfortunately, that ss turned out to be worse (the kids would watch secular cartoons & MTV) so I decided he was going to sit with me, at least during Praise & Worship (then he would go into the older class that was taught by a friend of mine). We eventually changed again then gave up (we are now between churches). We have yet to find a church as a whole that spends more than a few seconds actually reading from the Bible. I won't even let my dd set foot in ss classes (if you can really call it that) because all the girls her age do is sit around talking about boys & how to attract them, how they deceive their parents by wearing make-up/trashy clothes at school, dance provocatively to music that makes MY face turn red (and I am by far a prude :tongue_smilie: but wow who allows their kids to do that stuff in CHURCH for goodness sake?) and systematically bully the girls who are seen as "babyish" or "immature". Oh yeah, these are 8-9yo's I am referring to. :glare: So, to answer the OP's question, NO! I do not think you are being a fuddy-duddy! Someone has to put the Bible back in ss where it belongs and FAST!!
  15. We are doing AW from WinterPromise (my own revised version since I could NOT leave the choppy schedule alone lol). In order to add in a meatier science component, I perused the net for unit studies and lapbooks for each "Animal of the Week" (oh and some worksheets & videos, too). My dd is 9 and she really enjoys lapbooking. I let her decorate the covers anyway she wants, which usually involves glitter, stickers, resized coloring pages, etc. We prefer this to textbook science but you could easily add lapbooking/unit studies to any curriculum!
  16. So not exactly what you are looking for but this free curriculum has lesson plans for K-12 and would be great as a stand-alone program or an add-on to whatever you are already using. They will send you a cd of the entire curriculum, free of charge. I ordered it & it arrived within a couple weeks but I have not looked at it yet.
  17. Here are a few of the links I have (gotta get dinner then I will look for the rest). 18. Here's a couple before I drag myself to bed. Blue Letter Bible Bible History Bible World History This one is very good (my favorite) but only available via the wayback machine and it may take a minute or so to load (you might get a page that says, "Loading site...as close to the date blah blah blah as available" or something like that). If you select & copy the text, you can paste it into a word/open office document (or print it) so you don't have to keep loading the wayback site. It is quite long so be prepared for information overload :D If you are looking for something else, reply & I will dig through all my book marks in the morning.
  19. I did not check the replies so there may be some duplicates. 20. You can obtain all 52 of the I See Sam readers here along with some AWESOME lessons that correlate with each book. You have to register, but it is free.
  21. Head of the Class. Complete & free online homeschooling for prek-5 (will eventually go through 8th). Can be customized to your childs particular abilities/level. There are art projects, science experiments, videos, geography, music, way too much to list here. My dd loves it!
  22. Maybe not exactly what you want to use, but the schedules here would be a great springboard of ideas. She has lit schedules for all 4 years of the History rotation (free of course). I create my own curric based on what I like from my favorite publishers (SCM, SL, WP, AO, etc) and schedules I find online free. Another site you may enjoy perusing is Guest Hollow. Jenn has some wonderful schedules and it is very easy to leave out any religious books (again, not that you would USE her schedules, but seeing different layouts is what helped me in my planning many moons ago ;)). If you really want to plan our own curric without looking around, I suggest using A Book in Time for History lit. Cindy
  23. I have used several WP programs and NEVER had even a tiny problem. With AW, I bought the guide from WP and the books from all over the place but I bought Adv K LA, Ancients & Middle Ages packages with no problems. And each package was purchased separately over several years so my experience with their customer service was not an isolated event. I will say that it is better to call in your order than place it online. Then they can tell you if anything is back ordered. If you want to ensure everything arrives on time, I suggest buying the books separately and the exclusives from WP. I saved over $150 buying AW that way.
  24. We are doing it right now & my dd LOVES it! In fact, she loves it so much that I spent several months beefing the program up for her to stretch it out over 2 years (we spend 2-3 weeks per animal with extras such as videos, library books, elaborate crafts, experiments, etc). I have an older 2006 Instructor's Guide that combines all grades but I scheduled in the books from the current edition too. As for dislikes, the only problem I have is that I wish the program had 10 times more activities/books scheduled (which is probably something no one else would notice considering the program is very full):D If you have a child who is as fascinated with animals as mine is (seriously, future veterinarian on my hands) Animals & Their Worlds is definitely for you! The beauty of the program is you can easily adapt it to fit your preferences (4 days a week, Wednesday craft day, add in videos/library books, replace a reader with one you think looks more interesting, field trips to animal related business like pet shop, deer farm, zoo, aquarium). I created a blank schedule & printed 36 copies so I can write down the extras/alternates without marking up the guide. We are Christians and I cannot recall any major references to evolution anywhere (the occasional "millions of years ago" in the animal encyclopedia) but I usually gloss over that stuff with "some people believe that" kind of response and explain why we do not believe that statement. There are some wonderful websites I found that have notebooking pages, lapbooks, crafts, math, coloring pages, etc, that correlate with each weeks lessons so if you decide to buy it, let me know & I will PM you some of the links! If you have any more questions, I would be happy to TRY & answer them ;)
