  1. Time Left: 5 days and 5 hours

    • WANTED
    • USED

I am looking for Logic of English Essentials current items, mainly the teacher's manuals for lessons 1-7, 8-15, 16-22, and 23-30, along with all the flash cards to teach the curriculum such as phonogram, morpheme for each lesson set, grammar, etc (student workbooks a plus but not absolutely essential 😉 ). Used is fine as long as I can read the directions. I can pay via PayPal asap! Thanks!

    NO VALUE SPECIFIED

  2. Learn Math Fast Volume 1 will do a review of basic elementary math. I had my dd (who was 12-13 and behind in math/LA from undiagnosed LD's long story) go through the first book in about 6 weeks (I did supplement with some additional things like Kahn & MM & a couple subscriptions sites for reinforcement/review). She liked it so much she moved through volumes 2-4 within 3 months. I bought copies on eBay & the big homeschool buy/sell/swap group on FB
  3. I am also getting the "Something went wrong....." when I click any link in the classifieds section.
  4. My dd14 with epilepsy has a similar seizure type & pattern. She also has higher seizure activity in the mornings and when she first falls asleep. About 6 years ago, I started giving her 75% of her medication at bedtime and it all but eliminated her seizures! Now they only happen if she is extremely stressed, overtired, or sick. Not giving medical advice, just an observation ;) The keto diet was a bust for her, did not help at all. I really wanted it to but well, what can you do :P Definitely start a seizure journal...if you haven't already ;) As for school work, we take lots of breaks, repeat lessons 10 times if we have to, and try to do as little as possible on the computer as that seems to exacerbate the absence seizures (petit mal).
  5. Quick response to sub until I find a few minutes to give a more thorough one....you could do it with an older with tweaking. I am a terrible tweaker lol but I have some ides you might find useful.
  6. Thank you everyone..... and Merry, I appreciate you taking time to reply (actually I was secretly hoping you would respond lol I've followed your story for a long time since our husbands have similar illnesses). I am torn I guess. I WANT to use AAS the way it's designed, especially since dd did so well with level 1 but ugh, money is so incredibly unbelievably tight since dh became disabled that every $0.01 is precious. Homeschooling can be an amazing journey....for us, it can be described as an obstructed blessing. :banghead: Just when something good comes our way, it's thwarted by something I absolutely need that I can't readily obtain. I posted an ISO in the classifieds, who knows, maybe for once I will get lucky with an AAS student packet cheap   :001_tt1:
  7. Awesome!! I love all your suggestions & ideas. I am not very creative....which makes being a homeschool mom challenging at times :p
  8. I've seen a few homeschoolers (here and on a couple blogs) mention that they use AAS without the student packet. :confused1: How is that even possible? What does a typical lesson look like using only the Teacher Guide? My dd did SO well with AAS years ago but it just has not been in our budget :tongue_smilie: Someone is sending me the TG's for levels 2-4, but no student materials. We've been flopping around with freebies for too long and now her spelling is becoming an issue. I don't want to attempt using AAS without the student materials unless I know it has been successful for others  and I have a general idea of what to use instead of the cards/etc. Thanks for any suggestions!
  9. For volume 1, has anyone added in a separate geography curriculum? Maybe along the lines of a cultural study to enhance the lessons? We've done MOH in the past so I have an understanding of their integrated geography and it's not quite what I want this time around. My dd is very fascinated by the differences in world cultures, and since we will be starting the MOH cycle again this year, I was wondering if anyone ever added geography successfully. Not just a workbook or notebooking type extra, but a full geography curriculum like Galloping the Globe or COAH Expedition Earth, for late elementary possibly early junior high level (depending on difficulty). Thanks for any advice :)
  10. a unit study my dd wants me to create for Europe. Especially books or videos that are particularly "British" in nature (her words and emphasis lol ;) ) I have the free WinterPromise Great Britain study, which is not exactly what I want. We've done Galloping the Globe and the free Guesthollow geography unit but she really wants to spend several weeks or even a couple months immersing herself in their culture. I've been scouring the web for ideas but the majority of what I'm finding is too young/simplistic. I would love something all planned out for me but I realize that's the impossible dream ^_^ I really need suggestions for videos and/or books...something similar to the DK/Usborne internet encyclopedias that focus on one country/city instead of broad coverage of the entire world or hundreds of years. Books that provide detailed information for the current daily lives for all class distinctions (lower, upper, royalty, etc) or their daily life experiences from a historical perspective. I've done searches on Amazon & Goodreads but the reviews leave me more confused than when I started :confused1: :tongue_smilie: People either LOVE :001_tt1: a book or think it's absolutely HORRENDOUS :svengo:without explaining why lol Non-fiction video suggestions are welcome, too :) High school--adult level is ok since I will be reading to her & editing as needed (she's 12). Thanks in advance for any suggestions! :D
  11. If you really WANT a paid for version, Biblioplan is another option that schedules a plethora of books with SotW & MOH
  12. The MOH yahoo group has dozens of files scheduling readers/activities/videos/etc with the books...and they are free :) https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/MysteryofHistory1/info
  13. I have a quick question and the search function here (and google site search) are about as useful as a sharpie during an ITBS test. During a trip to a new local bookstore :) I found 4 levels of the 2002-ish edition Write Source handbooks/TG & skills books for $0.50 each (Write Away, Write on Track, Writer's Express, etc). I flipped through them enough to realize the layout is perfect for my dd (the one's at her level anyway). So....how in the world do I utilize them?? :confused1: Is there some secret schedule I am missing out on? Do you really just read a couple pages in the HB, do some worksheet or classroom activity and become a proficient writer? I'm either unnecessarily skeptical :o or missing a HUGE picture here. The Teacher's Guide to the Handbook references a "Program Guide" but holy macaroni batman :scared: they cost more than my monthly electric bill lol howevr those lesson plans sound interesting and extremely useful. Unfortunately I really need hand holding or at least a nice big push in the right direction and the TG is well, less than stellar :tongue_smilie: Any suggestions on "how" to teach this using just the HB TG, HB, & skills book? Or should I consider this an inexpensive lesson, send these off to Book Samaritan, and look for a writing curriculum elsewhere? Thanks in advance! FWIW, my dd has learning disabilities (undiagnosed Epilepsy as an infant/toddler) and is several years behind her peers. Due to some unusual & difficult new medical issues, she's regressed again so I need to take a few steps back for a while until we are able to fully address her neurological state. She has expressed an interest in writing the last couple years and we've done a few Evan Moor/Scholatic cutesy kinda workbooks, but nothing curricular, if that makes sense. She is extremely creative, most days she can visualize things that astound me, but she lacks thought organization abilities.
  14. Tapestry of Grace Bookshelf!!!! I use it for everything. This link is for Year 1 lower grammar books.
  15. More links than you will ever be able to use ;) (my dd LOVES this site...there are links for every subject & grade, even apps, GED/SAT...you name it!!!) This link takes you to the grade level stuff. You can ignore the common core links by clicking the + under each grade level next to "prior standards" Internet 4 Classrooms Well, if I could edit the post AND include the links lol This one has links for everything else such as special needs, exceptional, middle/high school, college prep, teacher resources, apps, etc Internet 4 Classrooms k12 links
  16. Any tips on how to liven things up a little? Hands on activites we could do besides completing the lessons on colored paper or with markers, colored pencils, etc? Just going through the books has dd & I both experiencing a wide variety of unpleasant emotions lol :crying: :willy_nilly: :banghead: :bored:  I love R&S Spelling and she does well with it (which is amazing after all the struggles we've been through with dozens of spelling/phonics the last 7 years). Unfortunately my creativity-juices quit flowing back when dh became disabled and chronic insomnia has me   :001_unsure:  and now, we are both flying head-on into the permanent burnout zone (not just for Spelling but I figure that's ONE subject I might be able to approach from a different angle with little $$). Changing to a different curriculum is out of the foreseeable (financial) future so I want to make it a little more fun for her, if possible. She's in level 4, if that matters. Tried searching but I never can get the search function to work here, even with google search :p ) Thanks everyone for any advice or suggestions!
  17. Ironically, my dd GAINED weight with keppra :P Our pharmacist said he has 4 children other than dd who have gained weight on it. She was a very thin toddler, almost too thin. Within 2 weeks of starting keppra she gained 10lbs. No matter what we do exercise/diet wise, her weight has always been an issue. She's been on it for almost 10 years. We've tried all the other meds, mostly to see what happened with her weight (it did decrease when we changed temporarily) but keppra is the only one that successfully controls the seizures without the other nasty side effects.
  18. We've been in financial crisis for about 10 years so I know what you mean :P Tons & tons of cheap curriculum here: https://www.varagesale.com/best-homeschool-swap-usa/feed And here: http://www.usedhomeschoolbooks.com This one has been a lifesaver for us recently. They are probably the cheapest I've found so far. http://www.homeschoolbooksforless.com Also, join Paperback Swap! I get 3/4 of our curriculum there. Credits can be purchased in the forum for $2 each which is cheaper than shipping on 99.9% of homeschool curriculum sites :) Then there is always free: http://www.thebooksamaritan.com/
  19. LLATL is a fave here, even though the reading level is easy, the skills addressed have REALLY given my youngest a strong foundation. I've been using it along with Winter Promise LA, mostly because my dd likes the readers lol but also because it has more of the hands-on fun stuff that she needs (the older guides that did not schedule their self-published books are much better IMO).
  20. Biblioplan does almost exactly what you described and is based upon WTM :) From my guide: The chronological time periods we chose were inspired by the history-study guidelines in The Well-Trained Mind There are 4 levels of readers & several spines to choose from depending on how religious/secular you prefer. No Science/LA/AR unless you add it in. It does not schedule specific pages for all the lit books (which works better for my family but is easy to remedy by reading however much you want that week lol) and the book lists are incredible! It has been a breath of fresh air for us after years of struggling to find that perfect (non-existent) curriculum :)
  21. Thanks for the info ladies! I could not find anything on their site (even tried a google specific search :P ) I am desperately needing something that will tell me what to do when in a weekly layout. HOD is good but my dd is all over the place skill-wise so running 3 guides for ONE child just isn't a viable option. Hmmmmm I am REALLY liking the look of the new science book :glare: Might have to sell something so I can buy a copy instead of Genesis for Kids :p
  22. What are the differences between the 1st/2nd editions? Or maybe even when the 2nd edition TM was released? Someone offered me a CTG TM from 2007 but she's not sure what edition that is. Although it does appear to use the same books. I didn't want her to dig it out of storage if it's too old or something. I have NO idea lol (which is not a new development, I am usually clueless about most things these days ;) ) I tried searching the board but couldn't find anything :p Thanks for any help!
  23. I agree with Elizabeth :) I generally buy my teacher guides on Homeschool Classifieds, Vegsource, or Varagesale for $10 give or take. I have found the workbooks a couple times new on half dot com or ebarf for $5 (seriously!) and usedhomeschoolbooks.com or homeschoolbooksforless.com has them once in a while, too. Keep your eye on Amazon at the end of the year, prices seem to dip a little then for the TM's.
  24. If you have a decent library, try the free American History "Sonlight" type guide at Guest Hollow. We have LOVED LOVED LOVED all her History & Science guides :)
  25. Thinking of you Rose & praying for you to be surrounded by God's love & peace :grouphug:
