  1. http://www.bronners.com/ even if they don't have a snow globe you like, you are bound to find something else :)
  2. I don't like it when people on state/federal assistance use the money they get for their children to have their hair and nails done. Where I live people spend more on their hair and nails then they do on their children. They don't get like just french tips or something that allows you to still do things, they get long nails that are over an inch above their finger tips and doesn't allow them to do much of anything. I guess it gets to me because they have little babies that do not have car seats but they have these long nails and extensions.
  3. where can I find a cd of children's Christmas songs that are traditional? I want one for my daughter to listen to as we drive up to Michigan between movies. OH and good Christmas movies, I wanted the holiday classics set of DVDs from Wal-mart (has Rudolph, Jack Frost and others) but when I went to buy it Friday the box said $13.00 which I was fine paying but it rung up $25.00 a bit much to me. Either old Christmas cartoons or historical type shows (like a history channel version of the Nativity) Thanks
  4. my dd's first birthday party was a disaster, the only person that showed up was our neighbor Mr. Edd. I can't wait to move back to Michigan where our family is.
  5. I got 4 sets of pajamas 1 for my dd and a set each for my nieces and nephew, 100 pc tub of megablocks for nieces and nephew, 2 movies, portable dvd player for dd, a digital camera, cabbage patch doll for dd and a track suit for dd.
  6. thanks for the suggestions so far, my dd LOVES sweet potatoes and we just got some fresh ones from our neighbor.
  7. need recipes for sweet potatoe casserole please.
  8. we are staying home for thanksgiving (also dd's first birthday) and going to Michigan for Christmas, not looking forward to the 16 hour one way drive with little one, but that's what we have to do so she can see her nanna, grandma, grandpa and aunts and uncles and cousins. We don't expect them to come down here because there is just the three of us and more of them so we just go up, hopefully soon the economy picks up so we can just move back up there.
  9. when ever she needs one, I tried the bed time routine thing but I work two nights a week and don't get home until way after her bedtime, hubby doesn't like to give her baths.
  10. We are driving and our laptop doesn't have a car charger, besides it's a little big for her in the back seat
  11. right now the destination, dd is going to be one on Thanksgiving :( and I already know that the 16 hour trip to see her nana and grandma is going to be torture since she doesn't like being in her carseat.
  12. hi, any recommendations for a portable dvd player? prefer to be less than $150.00, it is for DD when we go on the dreaded 16 hour drive to Michigan for Christmas, she will be 1 year old. Oh and needs to have a car charger and preferably a house charger too for her grandma's house so she doesn't have to watch grandpa's westerns. Need to know where to buy it also :)
  13. burt's bees or carmax, the carmax is nasty but it works
  14. I am just about where you are at Meagan, minus the medical school, my husband and I both work and have food stamps, WIC and medicaid for Cali. Although my husband is thinking of going to the police academy.
  15. My family has foodstamps and WIC. the food stamps we just signed up for due to dh's huge cut in hours and in pay and the WIC we got when I was pregnant and needed help with insurance, (dh's insurance skyrocketed when the company changed policies). The WIC we could do away with if dh had his regular 40 hour work week and we wouldn't need the food stamps either. We only have 1 child, when we planned her we thought we were heading for better times, dh was getting about 50 hours a week and I was getting about 30 hours so we THOUGHT that we wouldn't need any type of help out side of medical costs
  16. a few friends, mainly from work, all people she has been around, there may be a few other babies, one is 10 days younger than her.
  17. I am having a first birthday party for dd on the 29th, any ideas on what to do as far as games, food and what not? don't have much money to spend, trying to save to go home for Christmas (home as in Michigan) so dd can see her nana and other family.
  18. wow, never in a million years would dh or I let dd wear anything like that, don't care how much she wants it, unless of course she pays for it herself then we have no say.
  19. my little one started climbing out of her crib at 8 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!! Scary stuff crib tent thing didn't work because she figured out how to undo the zipper thing, now she sleeps on a mattress on the floor, we live in a double wide so we don't worry about stairs, oh and Cali is 11 months old now any thing that is climb over able with something she can get her feet on or wrap her toes around is out of the question.
  20. I live in Fitzgerald, Ga which is about 2 hours south of Macon. I don't know of any groups, I am looking for a secular group and even willing to drive to Macon.
