  1. It’s been hitting our egg supply for years. Avian flu has taken out tens of thousands of domestic birds in my state as well as a lot of wild birds. I am not so worried about egg availability. The commercial egg producers keep pretty tight biocontrols, and they’ve been able to bounce back after large culls. We just keep a larger (10dozen) backstash of eggs in our garage fridge.
  2. Is your MTP joint swollen as well? Are you just dealing with deformity (change in angle) or are you also dealing with bursitis? Do you have high arches? Do you have pain elsewhere in the foot?
  3. So, curcumin is where I make a budgetary tradeoff in my supplements list. I buy it when it falls under $20/bottle. It is right now from this seller: https://www.amazon.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Curcumin-500-Count/dp/B000HKZ85A/ref=sr_1_7?crid=1ZJI2F7E2NA7F&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.m5gZ2KqRdcZxbv5t0ru8TWXU6icPXjgIPOgrv7RJ_LLoeV3nd_kURPL9bVJMuzmHuGxKxoZZ9-O-aCCFLE4eZjAMfk-ZIsE0t_VwbiEzKPhjJd1f_Pj_KPemOei9nDObMk3dpQsUfymPtKopgEV7INtlXJ_b1JnIFQl_9m-PNYIKXSWrqcERiu-DLncx6HXTVPP4AsCV2mqb_XEgph_yG9eue2tJAgVO4Lq17P_IfDneswt7nWxva9y1YpcD21UTddke0z1iZJGe2fC3lWzv02FpHkDhC7AeUvRzVpmAqCY.VGsFqtVL9CUCftFMj7-titrF5l0FpfZB-NjGjODakLo&dib_tag=se&keywords=jarrow+curcumin&qid=1713037436&rdc=1&sprefix=jarrow+curcumin%2Caps%2C145&sr=8-7 Note that you should price it carefully. There are a number of sellers on amazon, and you can usually find the same product at 3-4 different prices. Ideally, curcumin should be taken with bioperine to make it more bioavailable, but I personally don't find a different in my body, so I choose to save $20/bottle and pay $18-22 for it rather than $45-55. I take two capsules of it--1000mg. My body needs a heck of a lot more magnesium than most people's. You can dose it to tolerance (aka, until diarrhea hits) up to 2000mg a day, theoretically. I take magnesium glycinate lysine as it is very bioavailable and doesn't cause any gut issues for me. This is the brand I usually get: https://www.amazon.com/Doctors-Best-Absorption-Magnesium-Glycinate/dp/B000BD0RT0/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1ZEMNYFYL5YQ1&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.1w4E7W-dWRPk8OcZv1JsGdpdeEH5oNEc_dfpQCr5OEEym9-cINqqPFAsmfi4APdZTNESKUomd6TAU1CT7nLGx1e-tsn-aabl1DwyCmCeba-Cpu2S5fl5Op3G1_x7mQiicoC-ZP9e6gF3AJzOwbLT2r3-zS6OufvkjPh83J50iU-JjfpPH7Krc8wvFbpeHcyTVaQfGHz30WNpIC6k_rOCA8__8AnHTIBWvR_tEROvqt33QkjHwNfe2z3eMlJMSMGWjelMgY1touVWXi-Qgxs6Ef5ZvEfiwYPsI6ILV-la48w._1M3SE89nSNUJlp1L7hhAA6IGpi_-Kru3SQ9PrScZts&dib_tag=se&keywords=magnesium&qid=1713037588&rdc=1&sprefix=magnesium%2Caps%2C194&sr=8-5 When I first started with magnesium 2015ish, I took 1000mg a day, which is the most my dr would let me (see above personal toxic load of other meds and trying not to overwhelm my kidneys), and it took several months to kind of claw out of a terrible place with my pain. I'm at about 400mg of this now, but I will still do an epsom salt soak or other skin topical thing if I flare up on top of what I get dietarily and my supplement regime. If you have kidney issues or if you start to get diarrhea, ramp up slowly.
  4. For me, I use a hot tub therapeutically. I dont know if you can join a gym or a pool that has one, but I need to be neck deep in hot water for pain management. I can only very rarely take ibuprofen due to the toxic load I have from other meds, so that and cognitive coping are my mainstays of pain management.
  5. My joint laxity and muscle issues absolutely follow my menstrual cycle. They’ve done studies on hormonal influence of hypermobility and tendon rupture both. Perimenopause has been rough.
  6. Wow! You got a fantastic deal on the trellis! I just googled where the nearest tractor supply is…I am going to plan a hiking trip a few hours away and sneak in a trip to Tractor Supply on the way home. The local places are about x5 for cattle panels….
  7. Magnesium—smooth muscle relaxant Curcumin with the c95 complex (you need it ultra concentrated to be effective as it isnt very bioavailable naturally; this does have a hepatoprotective effect if you messed your liver up also with ibuprofen). Krill oil Those are the three things my rheumatologist recommends. I would also recommend at least 15 minutes of stretching and 30 minutes of walking daily. Motion is lotion. I walk even when I hobble. You have got to keep moving. If that level of exercise is easy for you always, add some light weights with lots of reps. You need strong muscles to hold joints in place.
  8. For that kid, bleach baths have been helpful (less for the antibacterial/antifungal aspect but because bleach somehow changes ph levels of your skin?) as well as using hibiclens during impetigo outbreaks. That particular kid got a standing zpac rx after his third impetigo round in 6 months because early treatment (first bubbles along his lipline) seems to be crucial. I start him on it as soon as he notices it (he feels tingles). I am really not wild about antibiotic use generally (and this kid does take regular probiotics), but recurrent staph infections are scary. Recurrent staph infections are associated with certain autoimmune issues—lupus, RA, and MS—and there’s some concern that the infections themselves may be triggering genes and thus disease. Given that I have RA, it’s on our radar and it’s concerning. None of this was well known when we started with baby allergies 20+ years ago…but if you know you have family genetics for autoimmune stuff generally, I wanted to give you a heads up. Hopefully his body will sort itself out with time. That has happened for a couple of mine!
  9. Just as a heads up, it’s not uncommon for eczema and secondary impetigo to kind of circle around each other. One of mine deals with that. Eczema is fundamentally a leaky skin barrier and microbreaks in the skin from scratching an itchy place or open wounds from the eczema itself are prone to infection.
  10. Fwiw, at complete arm’s length, I can read this as a third party purchased the home without having to find a realtor or market the place, but the purchaser will keep the property intact. The proceeds from that purchase have been spent during their living years, thus nothing remains to be divided among the heirs. The problem isnt that the land is going to the purchaser. That was decided a decade ago. There is just nothing that remains of the estate. ETA: a decade ago, my current home was worth $250k. Now it is worth $750k. Prices have tripled. If I bought my home 10 years ago, I would have entered into a contract for $250k….the fact that it is valued for more now is irrelevant.
  11. If you’re not in a situation with your parents where you can openly discuss how you feel, and you cannot change the circumstances (and it sounds like both of these are true), then all you can change is how you interpret and feel about this decision and act accordingly. IME, with time and distance, I can see that who x relative is now is often not the same person who they were 20 years ago. Cognitively, they changed with age. In other situations, I can see a relative more clearly—that the person who they are at 80 is exactly who they were at 40 but I had my “love blinders” on. Both are hard to live with in the moment, but the former is easier to accept. Every kid wants to feel loved and accepted by and safe with their parents. When a parent fails in that regard, it feels deeply unsettling and calls into question all of the best. For me, asking myself whether I am taking damage from interacting with a deeply flawed relative helps. Sometimes I can accept and still interact with someone who hurts me, but I have to emotionally step back in the relationship….love them at arm’s length.
  12. I also support ethically sourced wool from RWS (Responsible Wool Standards) certified companies. Wool is an organic, degradable fiber unlike anything petroleum based. I wear a lot of ultrafine merino wool. It is thermoregulating, requires less washing, and doesnt cause skin rashes for me unlike other fabrics. I live in a cool, damp climate—cotton isnt a great fabric here for that as cotton holds onto moisture.
  13. I will agree to that…see a dr and see what they will write for. We had an older ped allergist who was rather strict.
  14. Same with protopic/tacrolimus. I use and love tacrolimus personally, but not approved for children under 2.
  15. Zyrtec offers better control but is not approved for children under 2.
  16. Adding (before I step out for a bit), know the baby’s weight before you call the allergist. We got the ok after baby was 6 months, but you dose by weight. The fact the rash is spreading rather than retreating would have me calling…or doing urgent care. That rash doesnt look like one I would do hydrocortisone for. That only is for itchiness and I really hate all steroids + baby skin. You want something systemic and dealing with the underlying inflammation, not just the itchiness.
  17. Benadryl is not normal for babies, but yes it is done for allergic reactions. BTDT. You need to dose carefully though, and it needs to be by dr orders.
  18. Fwiw, lots of kids rash off of amoxicillin. Test him to see if he is actually allergic when you do more testing because knocking out penicillin based drugs as a class is a big deal. Many skin sensitive kids will rash out just from viral stuff and a viral infection which caused enough inflammation to cause an infection may have triggered the rash rather than amoxicillin. Honestly, if you are already hooked up with an allergist, I’d call their after hours number for advice.
  19. Are you already dosing with Benadryl per dr orders?
  20. Keep focused on your complaint. Your concern is not primarily that he was late (though that is a legitimate complaint). It’s that you have two hours of time that is unaccounted for. You arent going to get direct answers so start with the simple ones—verify with his teacher that he boarded the minivan at the given and appropriate time and work your way forward.
  21. My kids have been very choosy about what section they get into. If an English class is offered by 5 different faculty, we research each and look at reviews and then pick. Our local cc has some truly fantastic faculty, and a few duds. Ds did get a bad prof with syllabus, tech, and assignment issues who has tenure. That prof does some high end research and publication, and honestly, all would be served well if they stopped teaching. But, it is what it is. Ds survived and left very honest and specific feedback in the review. Other students in the class apparently went en masse to the department head at one point after they were tested on content not taught and not in the materials. I havent heard if things have changed…but I agree that just silently coping generally isnt the only solution.
  22. Fwiw, youtube has videos on how to unlock a frozen back. If I do them I can usually stand to pee without a lot of problems. I agree, back spasms are right up there with labor and broken bones in terms of pain.
  23. Fwiw, I’d want to review the cameras from the trip. I’d make that request when you talk to the bus barn.
  24. I agree that is ridiculous. Fwiw, when we have had bus issues, I call the bus barn and they talk directly to the bus. They livetime GPS where the bus is and things are addressed immediately. Is there a para on the bus also? There is for sped buses here. The para is another witness to the hijinks if you need to document. If transport is in the IEP, you can always call an IEP meeting if you need a hammer to wield.
  25. No need to answer, btw, but I dont think this pattern popped up overnight, and I would learn to tolerate the uncomfortableness of disagreeing. You have the right to your own opinions. 😃
