  2. We just love the TOPS programs as well. We are presently working on Electricity 32, and Get a Grip. We will be doing Lentil Science interm. and Corn and Beans soon. All Pros, no cons!
  3. I'm also in Canada, so no excuse for the long delay. I received the same message as the person above, and I did decide to take the digital download. She's also giving me l'art de lire 2 since I paid for the shipping.
  4. What did you find that you liked better than Nallenart? I am so disgusted (see my response elsewhere!) that I would rather not order from them again.
  5. I ordered on March 7 and my book hasn't arrived either. I've phone 3x and emailed 3x, no response at all. Maybe next time I'll just order the download version and be done with it. I'm pretty disgusted with their service.
  6. I'm another fan of GEMS! In fact, we are doing Bubble-ology right now and have recently completed Chemical Reactions, Vit C testing (available for free download at their site) and Crime Science chemistry. We've done Secret Formulas and Mystery Festival in the past. You might also want to check out TOPS learning systems. Lots of really high level math and science there!
  7. GEMS guides are excellent! http://lhsgems.org/gemsguides.html and Ellen McHenry's chemistry programs look great too.
  8. We are doing Primer B of LFC and we love it! The chant cd is well done and easy to follow and the dvds are great. There is actually a little latin story to follow on the dvd after Chris (we call him Buddy) messes up his nice clean white board explaining the week's lesson. In Primer A it is "How the West was unus" and in Primer B it is "Supra vir!" The vocab offered each week is just the right amount and you can learn it with the fun "games" in the activitiy book. Grammar is taught in LFC! I looked at LL as well, but picked LFC.
  9. Youcan watch horrible history clips on You Tube. Just search "horrible histories." They are hysterical!
  10. Here's one that no one at all has mentioned! GEMS (Great Explorations in Math and Science) guides. http://www.lawrencehallofscience.org/gems/gemsguidesgrade.html We have done Secret Formulas, Mystery Festival, Treasure Boxes and In all Probablity. This year we will be doing Math on the Menu, Bubble-ology, Crime Lab Chemistry and Algebraic Reasoning: Prof. Arbelga Introduces Variables and Functions for Grades 3-5 I also second the voice for TOPS and in this house we like Real Science for Kids and Latin for Children.
  11. I just tried to order WWE 3 from Peacehill Press but it looks like they aren't delivering to Canada. Anyone know of another palce to order it? As I noted above, Amazon.ca is not delivering it either! Yikes! I really don't want to have to make up my own using the text.
  12. I was looking for a geography program that dealt with the 5 themes of geography and came across this excellent program. It's written by a 6th grade teacher and it's free. It's not very long, but I think it does an excellent job on introducing the 5 themes. Here's the story part http://lanic.utexas.edu/project/etext/llilas/outreach/fulbright05/Husiak_EcuadorWow.pdf and here's the lesson part. http://info.lanic.utexas.edu/project/etext/llilas/outreach/fulbright05/Husiak_FiveThemes.pdf I plan on doing this program as an introduction and then going into more detail on each of the 5 themes after that.
  13. Math Mammoth Multiplication 1 is great to learn the multiplication facts. You can find it here http://www.mathmammoth.com/ under the blue series.
  14. I received an email from amazon.ca today that they are not able to get WWE3 at all. I will have to order it from Peacehill Press.
  15. Hi there, Maybe Top Secret Adventures would work for him. Here is the description at the website. "In this secret agent-themed puzzle book club, children become detectives searching for who, what, and where clues to solve mysteries one country at a time. Each kit is a complete unit. As kids work through each step in the mystery they’ll learn about the people, culture, terrain, history, and geography of a specific country while learning to follow directions, think logically, and use reference materials." It says it's for kids aged 7-12, so it may be on the young side for him. Here is the website http://www.highlights.com/shopping/product/detail2main.jsp?itemType=PRODUCT&itemID=1477&iProductID=1477 I think you can get them for sale on ebay too.
  16. I am new to this forum, and have been lurking, but I have some input to add to this question. My daughter was in grade 4 last year and we did both WWE 1 & 2. We did a week a day. In level 2 you are supposed to do a sentence as copy work one day and then the same sentence as dictation the next day. We skipped the copy work and just did the sentence as dictation. The other change that we made was that my daughter read the passages herself. Actually that's how we started and then she read one of the weekly passages and I read the other, to give her listening practice. We will be doing the level 3 workbook this year as well as level 4. There is no workbook for level 4 yet, so I need the hard back book to help me figure out what to concentrate on. Otherwise, I don't think you need it, unless you want to choose your own passages and not use the workbook. This program really helped my daughter with her writing as she wouldn't put anything to paper before we started it. Doing the dictation and editing it after showed her that it's okay to spell things wrong in a first draft. She still doesn't write much, but she does write!
