  1. The actual minutes thing is hard for me to say b/c we don't have a set amount of time for each subject or anything. I have a general plan laid out based on our materials and we just work through them. Each day is still no more than maybe an hour of work. Oh, and he's K/1st. Daily Winning with Writing Lvl 1 Silent Reading AO Y1 *(see below) Monday, Wednesday, Friday Singapore Math 1B Explode the Code 2 Tuesday & Thursday Maps Charts Graphs C Write Source Logic Safari 1 Weekly (no set day...sometimes 2/3 days per week) RSO Life (one unit each week) IQRA (Islamic studies, one unit each week) World's Greatest Artists (4 week study/ artist) * We also follow the Ambleside Online Y1 outline. So for example, this past week, for week one, this is how I laid it out: Monday - Aesop's Fables (The Wolf & the Kid); An Island Story (ch. 1) Tuesday - Fifty Famous Stories (Sword of Damocles) Wednesday - Aesop's Fables (Tortoise & the Ducks); Parables from Nature (Lessons of Faith) Thursday - Just So Stories (Whale) Friday - A Child's Garden of Verses (1 poem); Paddle to the Sea (ch. 1)
  2. For Art, we are using the freebie from Confessions of a Homeschooler called World's Greatest Artists...Amazon has the artist books as a 4 for 3 promotion right now, so that was an added bonus (they are available at the library too though...they are shown in the post linked above). I also found out that the National Gallery of Art will send you videos and lesson materials for FREE as part of their loan program, so we will be using some of that when it matches up with our WGA lessons. http://www.nga.gov/education/classroom/loanfinder/ For Music, right now we are just following along the Classics for Kids website and learning about the Composer of the Month. I also found this on Librovox - Stories of Great Composers, so we will use it off and on as well.
  3. That's what I am gonna do...I still wish I would have just waited since I knew I didn't really want to print on my own printer (it's an ink guzzler...) and sending it off to the printers isn't horrid, but it's still more than the cost of buying it printed from EH. Oh well :P
  4. They have since updated the downloads as well...I just purchased it today (have been waiting for it to finally release!!) and my copies both have colored cover sheets...so your email must have prompted them to update the files :D My only regret at the moment is jumping on the download instead of waiting for the printed version...I am not really wanting to print it myself, and having it printed will be more than the cost of just purchasing the printed one. So I have to figure out what I want to do now :P I love the layout though and the easy-to-implement nature of it. Very laid back intro to American History, which is exactly what I wanted!!
  5. A year at a time...granted, we are still REAL early in the game ;) I do keep stuff in mind when I read about them on the forums as far as what I'd like to maybe use in the coming years, but as far as actually planning everything out...just the current year!
  6. I haven't tried it but I know there is special paint for plastic that works great that would work. Regular spray paint will likely scratch off after time.
  7. It really depends on where you live as far as what you HAVE to keep. Providing you are in a non-reporting state, then the answer would be 'whatever you WANT to keep' :)
  8. Just PM me your email addy and I will send one over :) That goes for anyone...I had originally requested an invite directly and waited and waited and waited...finally had a friend invite me :) I just need your email in order to send an invite and you can join instantly :D
  9. Ditto. DS will be 6 in November, and he's doing all 1st grade or higher work at the moment, and K work last year, but by the PS standard, he would just be entering K this year b/c of the cut-off. No idea what to call it so I just don't call it anything :tongue_smilie:
  10. It doesn't require you to post as completed, so I would say that you could do the schedules that way. I think you can do what you are referring to with just Basic HST (I have Plus, so I can't remember what features exist just for Basic)...
  11. You should still be able to get the Microsoft Clipart from online...it's public domain, and as long as you aren't selling the materials, you should be OK as far as copyright is concerned. There are rules you need to read if you do decide to do so in the future, just to make sure you don't break any laws, but since it's public clipart, having them in a freebie should be OK... http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/images/
  12. We have one of these...it was sent to us as a sample from the company... http://www.eaieducation.com/Category/212_1/SmartPAL%C2%AE_Sleeves.aspx Looks like they aren't sold individually though, only in packs of 10?
  13. Yeah, I remember having everything in 100's that day...everyone brought in snacks in denominations of 100...100 pieces of popcorn, 100 peanuts, 100 M&Ms, etc. They counted them out and then the class shared all the different snacks. We made 100 day 'glasses' to wear and/or 100 day hats. Everything was centered around the number 100 :P It's really cute and fun!
  14. I think it's mostly a school thing...they celebrate 100 days since it's past the half-way point of school...180 days is actually the requirement. Not sure of the actual 'history' behind it, other than just being a fun milestone of the year (mostly early elementary, in fact, probably just Kinder and *maybe* first...)
  15. My DS, if attending public school, would just be entering K this fall...he will be 6 in November. We actually started Kindergarten last year in August when he was nearly 5, so we are starting "First Grade" with him being 5 (going on 6). I figured it was just easier to keep him with age...(4 = PreK, 5 = K, 6 = 1st and so on for us...)
  16. Not sure?! I wish they would just open it up already, but maybe they are still 'testing' things first? Not sure!
  17. We actually started yesterday! I thought about taking the day off since it was a holiday, but we still celebrated and managed to squeeze in our lessons too :D
  18. I am hoping that them being done so early means justice will be served for that sweet baby!! Even if the evidence is mostly circumstantial, there's NO reason that duct tape should EVER be on a baby - she killed her, end of story...she needs to be put away for life.
  19. We *just* started yesterday, but here's my outlined plan...no idea if we will make changes yet or not...so far so good :) Monday, Wednesday, Friday Singapore Math 1B Explode the Code 2 Winning with Writing Lvl 1 Tuesday & Thursday Maps Charts Graphs C Write Source Winning with Writing Lvl 1 Logic Safari 1 Weekly (no set day) RSO Life (one unit each week) IQRA (Islamic studies, one unit each week) World's Greatest Artists (4 week study/ artist) We also follow the Ambleside Online Y1 outline. 20. I agree with a lot of the previous posters! I do think that 'waiting' (or limiting, at least) is a good idea. My DS isn't particularly FOND of writing, but he will do it now without much complaint. I keep it fairly minimal and when possible, let him use a dry erase board instead of paper/pencil. My DS loves to draw, but hates to write ;) so go figure, LOL! He HATES coloring however...he will stay in the lines and such but it's still a chore to him so I just don't ask him to do it much at all. So, I definitely agree that he may NEVER "like" writing, but keep it age/level appropriate, and it should be fine :D
  21. I am hoping to do the same thing :D I would LOVE to get an iPad, but it's just NOT in our budget anytime soon (it will be old news before it's in our budget, lol) but with my swagbucks, I can save up and get a Kindle for basically $0!! I can't wait :D
  22. Send me a PM with your email and I will send you an invite. Right now, it's invite only...you can request to be on the waitlist, but it was taking forever, so I hunted down a friend who I knew was already a member and had her invite me :P
  23. :iagree: We have the pre-printed ones but are loving them so far!
