  1. Two ideas: 1 call your state's insurance commissioner. 2 call the media. A little public shaming might get them to back off.
  2. Interesting. Have you ever had a doctor look at it? It sounds like some sort of blockage in your nose.
  3. I would be very curious if there is a difference between mouth breathers and nose breathers. I have never for as long as I can remember breathed through my nose without giving it conscience thought first. I had no idea that most people breathe through their nose. I remember having surgery once and they put the nose thing with oxygen on me. As soon as I woke up, I asked to have it removed and the nurse is like "no, you need the extra oxygen". I told her I'm not breathing through my nose so how does it help" She was aghast at the idea I was breathing through my mouth but I told her that was normal for me. So she checked my oxygen levels, then removed the nose thing and check them again later and once she was satisfied that my oxygen was fine she finally removed it for good. But she was as shocked to learn that I never breathe through my nose as I was to learn that people normally did. How do you not breathe through your nose? Even when my mouth is open I still have air coming in and out my nose.
  4. One thing to consider is whether your state IDs are Real ID compliant. If not she may need a passport to travel domestically.
  5. It used to be much cheaper to do a renewal, but now I think it's the same fee for a renewal as for a new passport. If you're not planning on any travel, I'd wait until she's 16.
  6. The school lunch program in the US started during the great depression. It was a way to feed kids and keep farmers from going under by buying up what they produced. My understanding from Canadian family members is that in Canada there is more welfare for families so they can buy the food for the children's lunches rather than provide them through the schools.
  7. Long past time for this to happen. With so many qualifying events cancelled athletes needed a decision.
  8. This - and it would be one thing if when this all over they would be more accepting of homeschooling, but you know once the kids are back in school they will go back to side-eyeing us.
  9. Our church just sent out an email that services are cancelled this weekend. The Bishop has given everyone dispensation from attending mass.
  10. In Maryland all schools are closed for two weeks starting Monday. At least they're giving parents a few days to figure out what to do with their kids. One of the districts in Virginia gave parents only three hours notice.
  11. The Smithsonian museums in DC are closing on March 14 including the zoo.
  12. Yikes - 3 cases in the county I live in! DH went to Sam's club today and the toilet paper and paper towel area was barren. The office building I work in just hired two people to go around all day cleaning all the door handles elevator buttons etc.
  13. I'm moving up from the preschool boards as well! Here's what I have planned so far: Math: RS B English: Continue with HWT and probably adding in AAS. I'm going to try to get him into a co-op next year which will hopefully take care of things like art and PE.
  14. I will go shopping for presents for me and DH in November. I have a few small things for us, but nothing big. With getting Christmas ready for the kids, stuff for us slipped through the cracks. Get the kids asleep before 11 on Christmas Eve! If my parents come for Christmas next year, ask my Dad as soon as he arrives of needs anything wrapped or put into gift bags, so I'm not scrambling on Christmas Eve to find wrapping stuff for him. Remember to put away the elf when setting out presents so I'm not doing that at 4 am in the morning!😆😆 Take a nap on Christmas Eve!
  15. I added the rum but now I'm sick too. I don't think I actually touched the cake when I added the rum though.
  16. Well my 4 year old was helping make it.😒
  17. The problem is it's a huge fruitcake and no one else in my immediate family will eat it. My husband is gluten intolerant, my son is too picky, and since it has alcohol in it I can't really give any to my kids anyway. I guess I can eat some of it myself, but most will probably be a loss.😭
  18. It's time for another round of that forum favorite game should I eat this or toss it! Appropriately for the Christmas season, today's episode stars a fruitcake. Some background, on Saturday afternoon DD4 and I made a nice yummy fruitcake. It's a tradition. It's my Grandma's recipe and I make it every year. Sunday morning I poured spiced rum over it. I usually put in the fridge for about a week and then cut into pieces to send off to various family members. Flash forward to Sunday evening, DD4 and DS6 both start throwing up. A few hours later I started throwing up too. It's now apparent we have a stomach bug.🤮 Now I'm worried we contaminated the fruitcake with whatever germs we have when making it. Do you think the alcohol would kill off any germs? I hate to chuck the fruitcake because I don't think I'll have time to bake another one before Christmas. The ingredients are expensive and it takes 4 hrs to bake in the oven so it's hard to find the time to do it. My Dad loves the fruitcake and I hate to not have it, but I don't want to give my family stomach flu for Christmas. What says the hive?
  19. My husband and I just bought our first house this summer. We bought it knowing a new HVAC system was needed. We just called an HVAC place recommended by our realtor. HVAC place wants 50% deposit paid by check. They say they don't take credit cards because of the fees charged by the credit card companies. Is this normal? I'm worried because I know you have more protections if you pay by credit card. Is not taking credit cards a red flag or is it typical for this kind of work?
  20. What email service are you using? For personal email I use Gmail. It's pretty good at sorting out promotional and spam emails into separate folders. I don't feel any obligation to read emails in those folders and they're set to delete automatically after 90 days. For work we use outlook and again have the program set to separate out spam and promotional emails so I don't really see those. For emails I need to respond to I flag them. Once I've responded they're unflagged. I don't go through and sort emails. Once or twice a month I go through and mark important emails for archiving. If I need to find a specific email I just use the search function.
  21. I see this all the time too. Like please tell me your coop is three hours away before I spend a lot of time digging through your website.
  22. Have her check with HR as to when open enrollment is. You usually have 30 days after certain events like being a new hire to get on the insurance. If not she may need to wait for open enrollment, but don't assume open enrollment is at the beginning of the year.
  23. This is one of the reasons we decided to homeschool. After a long commute home I want to enjoy time as a family not spend the evening doing homework battles.
  24. I know a few preschoolers that are in therapy for anxiety and depression it seems to be related to homework and school assignments. But the parents view homework as something the kids just have to get used to 🙄
