  1. Looking forward to HOD World Geo for 8th with my dd! Not sure about math yet, so off to read what you all shared. :)
  2. I'm selling some curriculum and the buyer paid with cc paypal payment. I've seen some sellers do not accept cc paypal payment. Does someone know the reason for this? Thanks!
  3. I bought it from Currclick just a few days ago. Here's a link: http://www.currclick.com/product/95871/Math-Mammoth-Grade-7-Complete-CurriculumOnly $28.13 :hurray:
  4. What's the "best buy" for purchasing Mammoth Math 7 if I already own the digital version of 1 - 6?
  5. Thanks for all the recommendations. We bought our daughter the Our Generation kitchen from Target for Christmas and it has wonderful details! The veggie drawers open, the butter compartment lifts, so many accessories that come with it - a lot of value for the $. She was thrilled!! :hurray:
  6. We haven't used it, but here's a bump. :001_smile:
  7. Christmas is coming and my daughter would love to receive a kitchen set for her ag doll. I've looked online and I'm not finding a lot. Anyone purchased one they like? Or built one themselves? I was thinking of building one for her but can't find a pattern online. (Ana-white...please ;) ) What have your girls loved? I'd love to see pictures if you're willing to share!
  8. Another vote for Loving Family. My daughter has spent oodles of time playing with her sets. (My youngest son will sometimes play with her as well.) She has had them since she was 2, she's now 10. Over this time she has collected quite a few sets and people. I love the options, camping, horses, all ages of people - including grandparents! I love the "family" aspect of the toys. Happy shopping :)
  9. Thanks for the suggestions! Monday we will start spending more time on less subjects and see how that goes. He does have a checklist he uses for each day's subjects, so I'll just tweak that. I'll try the phys ed first thing in the morning as you suggested MerryAtHope - good idea to get the blood flowing! He usually does something active during lunch break, so that breaks up the school day. Something to look forward to later in the afternoon, great idea...I'll give that some thought. And I like your science idea Chrysalis - I'd like to give that a try. I also like the 30 minute idea. I've had him use timers before but they either make an annoying ticking noise or they're on an electronic device, which has many distractions. :) Any suggestions for good timers? A variety of outputs was suggested. For his geography project he did a presentation instead of a report. But the suggestion got me thinking, so many possibilities...podcast, website, dramatization, I like it!! (Sorry, thinking out loud so I can come back to this later.) Great idea Momling on supplementing history with outside reading, documentaries, outlining, essays. I'd forgotten about outlining. I know he'll appreciate a variety. Thanks for your suggestions - it feels wonderful to have a plan to try! :)
  10. I think my 12 year-old ds would benefit from a schedule that allows him to complete his work independently. He would rather verbally debate how much school he really needs to do, than do school. I wish he enjoyed it. Honestly, I wish I could give him responsibilities like choring calves, feeding pigs, etc. as he enjoys farming with his cousin when possible. I think he would thrive with an environment like that where he could be productive and use some of his energy before the school day even begins. I think a part of his "restlessness" is the maturing process - wanting more than book study. Alas, we have 1.5 acres, so we can't do that. Sports is his favourite past time. He also likes to sell things e.g. selling sweet corn door-to-door in the fall. He is a people person and fairly confident. I would love to hear your input and suggestions on his current schedule. Am I expecting too much, or too little? How can I make science, math, writing and grammar independent? 30" History 3x/week - Mystery of History (read 1 day, 5 sentence written narration the next) 30" Geography 2x/week - study a different province each month (we are Canadians) 30" Bible daily - Pilgrim's Progress by Answers in Genesis 15" Penmanship daily - A Reason for handwriting 15" Grammar daily - Rod & Staff 6 20" Spelling daily - Apples & Pears 15" Phys Ed. daily - he is much more active as he plays hockey, but he wanted it scheduled in the school day :) 40" Math daily - started Singapore math 5A Standard this year. Previously we used Horizons grade 1 - 3, then MM grade 4,5, and completed part of 6 last year along with some Life of Fred. He has done Pet Store and Sports Store math & loved it! 25" Science daily - we struggle with this one every year. Tried BJU textbooks last year, then changed to Exploring the World of ... This year he's completed the book Food and Nutrition for Every Kid by Janice van Cleave. He enjoyed the book, but I don't know where to go from here. He said he would like to learn about muscles, anyone have ideas on how to pursue that? 25" Writing daily - Igniting Your Writing. It's not fanning "I love to write!" flames, but it's getting done. We used IEW B and IEW Canadian History the last two years. He doesn't like to write, unfortunately he doesn't like school. I am hoping that if his work is more independent he will take more ownership and enjoy school more. I don't want him hating school. 20" McGuffey Reader 3x/week - use to be Getting Started with Latin but he wanted a change, since he enjoys reading I switched subjects to this reader. 20" Mind Benders 2x/week 40" Reading 4x/week - Heart of Dakota. He has enjoyed nearly all the book selections. His workbook writing is pretty brief. 40" Home Ec 1x/week About 4' 35" daily. Thanks for listening! â¤ï¸
  11. I was hoping to put the 1.5" Better Binder in the center area of the DA. Thanks!
  12. Do the better binders fit in the desk apprentice?
  13. I found this board when we first started homeschooling 7 years ago and it is always the first place I go to for ideas and suggestions for homeschooling. There's much wisdom here, a great willingness to share, compassion, and a love for children. Thank you Dr. Bauer for providing the table for us to sit around and chat!! I've been blessed!
  14. I have sent out books from two different POs in ND and have received PID#s each time, it's a tracking number that works with the USPS tracking tool...
  15. As a buyer I have purchased insurance, but looking back I don't know why I did. If I understand correctly, even with a tracking number, if the package doesn't arrive, the seller has to refund the buyer. So it doesn't really make sense that the buyer pays for insurance if it's for the seller's benefit...or am I misunderstanding?
  16. I have bought and sold curriculum for years using media mail and experienced my first lost this summer. Fortunately it was not an expensive item, but the time lost in trying to track it down, etc., ugh! We are still waiting a few more days for the package to show up - it's been almost 4 weeks. I am the seller and I think I will have to refund the buyer according to paypal rules.
  17. The evening started off with... There was one helper at a wall that had a paper for each cubby with their name and picture on it. (The picture was taken at the first club night.) This is where the cubby put an attendance sticker. After that the cubby headed to his/her table. Each cubby was assigned to a table, along with 1 or 2 helpers - depending on the number of cubbies/helpers. Each table, and therefore cubby, was assigned an animal e.g. cubby, lamb, elephant. These lables were on the table or wall beside the table. This arrangement stayed for the year. Cubbies went to the table after placing their attendance sticker on their paper. Each week several activities rotated from table to table. e.g. wk1 Elephant table had puzzles, Cubby table had play-dough, Lamb table was coloring, etc. , wk2 Elephant table was coloring, Cubby table had puzzles, Lamb table had play-dough. It kept the movement to a minimum - no kids running around bumping into each other. While they were doing these activities a helper at the table would listen to each cubby's verse and do the stickers in the books. At a set time (there was a poster hanging in the room with the time each event happened for all to see) everyone moved to the group area for the Bible story, puppet show and singing. In the group area where the story and singing happened there was a long piece of masking tape, or other solid colored tape, on the floor. Everyone needed to stay behind that line. After the singing was craft time back at the tables. Following craft time the cubbies had a snack and then home time. The cubbies took turns taking the cubby pail home - an ice-cream pail with a picture of cubby bear on the lid. When you got the pail, that meant it was your turn to bring a snack next week. The cubby that brought snack helped hand it out to each table. A leader would pour water into dixie cups for each child during snack time. Getting the cubby pail was a much anticipated event for the child :) All the best this winter! The cubbies and their families will be blessed in your area!! Oh, and in one church where my children attended AWANA we could only send our child to cubbies if we were volunteering somewhere in the AWANA program.
  18. Thank you for the specifying the differences between the different grades of pencils! And thanks for the comparisons - very helpful!! :001_smile: You answered my question, which is much better then when I called Lyra...maybe the Lyra company is looking for some new employees :001_huh:
  19. To clarify...is it the Lyra Rembrandt that are getting praised or the Lyra Groove or both? Is there a difference between the two? I called their office, but the employee wasn't very helpful in answering that question, so I thought I'd come here and ask those with experience. :) She did say that the Prang was a cheaper, lower quality pencil.
  20. I am hoping to purchase a used copy of konos vol 2 and have seen 2 different editions. Does anyone know the differences between the two editions of the main volumes and the different covers of compass?
  21. In the past my ds12 & dd10 have done many subjects together, but I'm thinking that needs to change for this next year. My dd10 is planning on using HOD Resurrection to Reformation, but my ds12 does not enjoying reading as much as my daughter. He has not enjoyed school the last few years and I would love to have him enjoy it again. So I was thinking of combining him and my younger son and using Konos. Is that a little far fetched? Is there something that would work better? We're eclectic homeschoolers, using a blend of TWTM and CM. We've been using Math Mammoth and he would like to change that to Singapore. We've done a placement test and I think we'll start with 5a. Although he finished grade 5 MM, he had a difficult time completing their end of 5a and 5b tests, so that's why we thought starting with 5a would be best. We've used AAS & R&S spelling in the past, not simultaneously. He says he prefers R&S, so we'll do that next year. This child loves to be with people, compete in team sports and enjoys reading - just not as much as my dd. Do you think Konos would work well to cover science/geo/history/music/writing/reading for ds12 & ds7? Or is the age range a little too far? Is the planning going to be nuts? ...what am I not seeing?... I have prayed about next year...read a lot...and would appreciate any wisdom & suggestions you have to share :) Thanks!
  22. This is probably not helpful...but we are using both, although not on the same day. My son saw the R&S 2 book and wanted to start it because the older two are doing that type of grammar. ;) LLTL Red is perhaps more spiral than R&S. We are still using Phonics & Reading Pathways (and my ds6 writes out a sentence that we've read in RP) so I will leave out the copywork in LLTL. Two different feels - R&S is more straightforward and to the point, LLTL has the stories, some spelling, some copywork, some comprehension, etc. If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me and I'll help if I can.
  23. My vote too would be for the previous format for selling curriculum. I find the classifieds difficult to search. And I really liked the date stamp that was on the previous format. If there is a possibility of changing back to the previous format maybe a poll would be helpful?
