  1. Several years ago Dh was asked by his uncle to be a fill in drummer for his band that was playing at a 4th of July concert in the park event. Several different bands played. I was sitting with friends and family watching when I noticed that a one of the performers was wearing a shirt with a British flag. I pointed it out and said that's ironic. No.one got it:001_huh:. So I explained we are celebrating our freedom from Britain and that girl is wearing a British flag. Finally everyone started laughing. Later my FIL was teasing the girl about her shirt. The girl was completely embarrassed it, she had thought she was being patriotic by wearing red, white and blue! Later I saw her wearing a sweatshirt:D
  2. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: So sorry, I have one to meet in heaven too, and this week a very real scare that there might be two. :grouphug::grouphug: for all who've lost a child.
  3. I think you're incredibly lucky as a renter:001_smile: House #1 came with no dishwasher. Shared washer and dryer that would not be replaced if broken. House #2-4 No indoor bathrooms, mini fridge, water when city felt like it. (Of course this was not in the US:)) House #5 Stove and fridge but would not be replaced if broken. We ended up having to buy a new stove within months:glare: That was just the first 3 years of marriage!:D I'm sure it must be frustrating if you've always owned, but there have been some good suggestions of splitting the cost or buying your own and then you'd have the perk of taking it with you.
  4. We named DD 10 months Graceyn. When we told the ped who checked her out in the hospital what her name was, he had not read her tag apparently because he undid her diaper and said. "She's a girl?!" We tried really hard not to laugh as we answered, "yes". He had assumed by her name that she was a boy and apparently was very shocked to find otherwise:) ETA: I prefer Grayson spelling wise for a boy, although to be honest it always sounded feminine to me.
  5. Oh and would this program start in 1st grade? What about Kindergarten? Could I start both boys in level 1? Would I accelerate DS6 and just go at whatever pace DS4 is ready for? I read that the author did not recommend skipping levels. Thanks again, everyone!
  6. Thank you! I guess we would add literature to anything, as we read a lot!
  7. Thank you- That does make a lot of sense- to have all ones language arts coming from the same source. Do you supplement PR at all? I've seen that some people use PR but still use WWE or another spelling program. Do people use just PR for all language arts? I do not want to have to use multiple books for the same topic. I think I would confuse the kids and myself:001_huh:. Thanks so much everyone for the responses.:001_smile:
  8. Wow! You have a lot going on. But you seem to have a good attitude about it. Hope you have lots of support:grouphug:
  9. Good to know others are using the same programs and finding them beneficial:) It's hard not to look on the other side of the fence:D
  10. Thanks for the response. My son has done well with OPGTR so I suppose I shouldn't fix what's not broken:) We just received WWE in the mail, so we haven't used it yet, but it seems to be a lot like FLL. Copywork (which in the FLL is optional) and narration. I like the concept of copywork and narration but I don't want to overkill DS.
  11. Thanks for the response! I suppose it would be easier to stick with what I'm doing. I just want to make sure, I'm giving my kids the best foundation, you know. I've also page protected some of my books, hoping to use them for the long haul:)
  12. Please, I know lots of people use these programs, any insights?:bigear:
  13. DS6 started OPGTR and FLL in the fall this year as grade 1. And I just bought AAS and WWE to start with him, have not started them yet, just got them in the mail this week. Now I have been reading on hear about Phonics Road and I can't get it out of my head. I am wondering should I stick with what I have or return the AAS and WWE and get PR? Would PR take care of all that my son gets from OPGTR,FLL AAS and WWE? Would he be behind? I have at least 3 more kids coming up the line and I would really like to use the same curriculum for all of them and not be switching around a lot. Could any of you give me some insight? Have you done the same programs and found them complete, have you switched? I would love any feedback, thanks!
  14. We used MFWK and I felt like my son was behind where I wanted him to be by 1st grade. I liked the program and will use it with my other DC in the future but more of a PreK4 program. For 1st grade this year, I felt like we were playing catch up in phonics and reading. He is just now "reading" independently. We used OPGTR for phonics. FLL for grammar. Math Mammoth for math. MOH for history (we are both loving it!) Reasons for Handwriting. Apologia Astronomy (don't recommend this for early elementary). We are just now adding in spelling AAS. And WWE for writing. Hope that helps, I know it's so nice for me to hear what others did and what they liked/didn't like.
  15. I sent mine to the local UPS store. Year1 section B cost me less than $6, so a whole year would be around $12 and that included them hole punching it for me. We too put it in 3 ring binders and find it the easiest way to use it.
  16. My DS6 loves Science, but I find Apologia Astronomy boring. I dread it. We are going to finish it this year but I am looking for something else for next year. We have had more fun finding supplemental books from the library on the topic we are covering. They tend to be shorter, more to the point and with better illustrations and pictures. I think it would be great for upper elementary or middle school.
  17. Wow! I've been a member of these boards for a while, though not a constant poster, I thought I deserved a little respect. Not mockery. I will think twice before posting, now.
  18. Later, when we were on that side of the store she asked again and since we were right by it. I let him climb on to show her. I might be overprotective but I don't let my children go anywhere with complete strangers.
  19. Last night my 2 yr DS and I were at a local thrift store when a lady came up to and asked if she could "borrow" my son?:001_huh::confused: I told her no and she huffed and turned around. Then she came back to me and said " Well, there's a tricycle for sale and I want to see if I should get it for my grandkids, it'll just be for a minute". Again, I told her "no". I couldn't even see the tricycle from where I was standing. It was on the complete opposite side of the store (we saw it later). I couldn't believe she would ask such a thing and then get pushed out of shape when I declined. People are bold and crazy:glare:
  20. I am currently reading through the book. My DH bought it to read after seeing a clip on David Platt's online, but I got to it first:D It is exactly what I've been looking for. Lately, I have questioned my faith, only in the sense that I don't think I can believe in the Bible and who Jesus is and not live a more radical, for lack of a better term "sold-out" life for Him. But when I have presented these thoughts to friends, who I love, I seem to get the response that I'm doing enough. My life is busy enough I have enough going on. But how can I be busy enough to serve God? How can I not tell everyone and seek ways to serve Him more if I believe Him to be the Savior? Particularly for my family we have a strong urge to adopt. My DH and I are both on board, but everyone says then we won't have enough time or money for giving our current kids what they "need". I'm excited to finish the book, to hear there are like minded people:)
  21. A friend was trying to heal a UTI and was taking baths with vinegar. She very unexpectedly got pregnant, 5th child 1st girl. Well, I had a UTI and used the vinegar in baths too, very unexpected pregnancy 4th child 1st girl. Could be coincidence but my friend swears it was the vinegar that checged the PH.
  22. :iagree::iagree: Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl!
  23. I was in the store just the other night, by myself, and was so absorbed in reading labels (kiddos with dairy intolerances) that I didn't notice someone was waiting for me to move. When I did notice I quickly moved out of the way but they were already mad and huffy:confused: It would have been so much easier had they just said "excuse me"!
