  1. Ooo, I like that idea. My dc don't like the biscuits plain but for some reason I buy those biscuits occasionally because they are cheap and I have a coupon.
  2. What?! You mean Obama isn't the Anti-Christ?!? :D I'm conservative and I'll be voting for McCain. Doesn't mean I'll like it but I'd rather have McCain than Obama. I don't think it will be the end of our country either if Obama is elected. But I could think that way if I dwell on politics too long. I've avoided the news and forwarded emails and talk radio because I can get too wrapped up in that. Best to avoid it altogether for me!
  3. Dc aren't that thrilled with English muffins and usually just eat the toppings off. I'd rather not go to the trouble of making little individual crusts.
  4. This will be helpful! I price match at WalMart all the time but I'm very disorganized about it. One cashier rolled her eyes and told me that I didn't have to bring in the whole ad every time. Well, why else would she believe me!
  5. Definitely berries, if you can grow them where you are. Back in Oregon we were so spoiled. We picked wild blackberries. We would freeze piles of them to last us a year. We hit all the u-pick berry farms for raspberries, strawberries and blueberries. Berries are so expensive at the grocery store. Also, fruit trees are great. We had different kinds of cherries, pears, plums and apples. We didn't have peach trees but several orchards were nearby. I almost didn't have to feed the kids all summer long. :)
  6. okay, it took me all morning but here is mine: Mon: beef and cabbage stew (already in the crockpot, yay!), garlic bread Tues: sticky chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans Wed: sloppy joes, green salad Thurs: baked chicken chile rellenos, chips and pico de gallo Fri: ravioli with marinara sauce, roasted asparagus Sat: leftovers Sun: beef roast with potatoes and carrots, steamed broccoli and rolls
  7. No doubt! My first thought was, heck, if not planning has worked with 12 kids over 22 years, then why start planning now? :001_smile:
  8. I've always heard that the Christian Science Monitor is a good source. It uses independent local reporters. That is a daily newspaper though. It is probably best to read a variety of sources since no source is without bias.
  9. Just so I understand this correctly, you boil the ground beef so the final product is loose like you would have after browning it? For some reason I was picturing boiling meatballs.
  10. Lurking smugly, refusing to jump into the all out brawl, I'm above that kind of behavior, but reads every single post and is aghast at what is being said about candidates and gives dh an earful when he gets home. Can you believe some people actually think this?!?! There is no hope for this country.
  11. Dh sells RVs, definitely a luxury item for most people. He went a month and a half without selling anything and got no paycheck. Very depressing for him! The company he worked for back in Oregon a year and a half ago went under and several RV dealers here in the Phoenix area have gone bankrupt. God has been good to us. Back in June we were offered the position as managers of an RV park. Part of our salary is a free place to live and free utilities. Business here is starting to pick up again. Maybe it's the weather here or the drop in gas prices, I don't know. 19 months ago we made the decision to come here and leave Oregon. From what dh has heard RVs are only selling here and in the Las Vegas area. I don't know what the future holds!
  12. Well, Lee, let us know what reply you get! (I have to say, WTMindy's post has me laughing.)
  13. I hadn't read the previous thread either but now I'll be chuckling all night, thank you very much! It really is terrible but I'm still laughing!
  14. I've been reading the message boards there since spring. It's wonderful! The other day I was driving home from somewhere with my 2 yo in the car. She started crying and saying "Walgreens" because she wanted to stop there and had realized we drove past it. Anytime she picks up a small piece of paper she says "coupon".
  15. I would get really restless once real labor started. I never had regular or even painful contractions until my water broke. Then I was holding my baby within half an hour. My midwife would always ask if the contractions were getting stronger as the day went on. If it were me, I'd want someone to be close, whether having a friend come over or hanging out at the hospital. You could be holding your new little one in the morning! That is exciting!
  16. We live in an area where it seems half the population are retirees. Many of them have the attitude "I raised my kids and I don't want to be bothered with yours!" Whether the kids are disruptive or not doesn't seem to matter. Some of these people just don't like kids around at all. My in-laws were visiting a couple of weeks ago and they took me and the kids to Burger King for lunch. We were the only ones in there with kids and as we were leaving, a man behind me made a snarky comment about it being "like a day care around here." I wish I could have thought of some snappy response!
  17. Thanks! We went to Disneyland over Christmas two years ago. Dh has been there many times but that was my first trip. I absolutely loved it! Last time we took our RV. At that time the shuttle to and from the park was free. Now it's going to be $55 for us for the week to ride. The RV worked well because we could make our own food which was nice. We ate a big breakfast, went to DL from opening till around noon. Went back to the RV for lunch and a nap. Then packed sandwiches and took off again. Staying in a hotel means our food costs will go up. A travel agent found us 6 nights at the Comfort Inn and Suites for $621. That seems reasonable but dh is convinced I can find something better and wants to stay 7 nights now. The agent also seemed to get us the cheapest tickets--$890 for the family for 5-day park hopper tickets. I'm glad our youngest dd is still under 3. So far I have worked out that a hotel trip would probably be around $2200. Dh thinks I need to plan more money for food (I figured $450) and then that doesn't count any extras. An RV trip would probably be around that too. More for gas, less for stay (the RV park would be $350) and less for food. If both trips costs the same, I'm not sure which I would prefer. A hotel seems like it would be less work for me! I didn't think we were going to get to go this year but dh thinks we can do it. Yippee!!! We are planning on the week before Christmas (Dec. 14-20). All the hotels seem to have lower rates that week too so maybe that is a sign that fewer people will be there that week. Planning a DL trip is half the fun!
  18. Ah, I found the discussion boards at mouseplanet.com. The other information there wasn't that useful. I think the discussion boards will be helpful!
  19. I'm hoping to plan a trip to Disneyland for around $2000 (including hotel, 5-day park tickets, food). Is this doable for a family of six? We figure gas there and back will be around $150. We want to stay for 7 nights. I'd love any tips! We've thought about taking our motorhome but then we would have to pay for a shuttle every day to the park and the gas there and back would be almost $500 in the motorhome. Yikes.
