  1. THANK YOU! ... it's bookmarked.... :001_smile:
  2. but, just thought since your child is 5, it'd be fun introduction to some famous pieces. http://www.starfall.com/n/level-b/art/load.htm?f
  3. I always have to take the opportunity to sing praises for 100 EZ!! I know there are many who don't like it, but it works every time for me. Never any problems w/the symbols disappearing and by the end of the book they are supposedly at a 2nd grade reading level. My dd finished her 100th lesson just before she turned 4 and has been an avid reader since. What a world of knowledge opens before them when they have a strong phonetic foundation. My 2 boys also learned to read fluently with this program. Not to say there weren't days of struggle, but worth every bit! When we complete this book, we begin ETC books. I always tell people to get it from the library and try it for a couple of weeks and see what happens.....nothing to lose, it's free!
  4. I'm excited to put together this study. Thank you all for your input, ideas, and links!
  5. Any suggestions for elementary appropriate books that cover the presidents? TIA!
  6. your private message inbox is full... I can't respond to your pm to me regarding 7/6. It is still available. You can email me...

    Thanks..

  7. Reg: The Iowa Test... If you are not a "certified teacher" the test results are not admissable per the state of FL requirements. Although, BJU approved me as a Test Administrator, I can not submit the scores b/c I'm not a "certified teacher". I include the scores in their portfolio evaluation, however. You might consider requesting an extension with your school district. We're in Duval County and have found the ladies are very helpful in the HS office.
  8. What resource, if any, are you using for your US Pres Unit Studies? If not using a resource, please explain your approach. Thank you!
  9. well, I used it w/FLL4 and I don't recall having to skip very much at all. Since we do narrations w/history also, I often skip it when it comes up in FLL. It just didn't seem like it came up very often. FLL4 had a lot of diagramming focus...not much dictation/narration. Sorry, I can't remember FLL3 that well.
  10. Can't comment on GWG...but I have to say I love FLL3 and 4. I used FLL4 in conjuction w/WWE last year and didn't have any problem with the overlap.
  11. We are able to do History, Bible, Science and Latin together for the most part. I have 5th, 3rd and K. The K'r listens in as I read the lessons and participates as much as he can, but I don't get mind if he decides he'd rather go play legos. We use SOTW, Apologia, Lively Latin...for Bible, we just use the Bible for copywork and memory work and we discuss the passage. My older two also do First Language Lessons 4 together. They do their own Math and reading, as that is a bit more level specific.
  12. The lessons look too long to complete in one day. What does your schedule look like? 1 or 2 per week?
  13. We are finishing up FLL4, which is extremely teacher intensive. While I love FLL, I'd rather not be so involved. With LLATL, it looks like I can pretty much hand my dd11 the student book and she'd be alright on her own. Is this your experience? Thank you again...
  14. Looking to hear opinions on LLATL...I have never considered using this curriculum, but a friend recently gave me all the HS books (tan, green, gray and gold). I'm browsing the books...just thought I'd ask here for first-hand experience opinions. Thanks!
  15. is diagramming intensive. I'd say don't bother using this at all if you're just going to skip it.
  16. :iagree: This program is very phonetic! I thought that the opening pages of the book explains that children don't need to know the "names" of the letters b/c it's the "sounds" that are important. In fact, knowing the names can sometimes cause confusion.
  17. we're a Saxon family and it has worked well for us. I mean they are learning and moving forward with no problems, but they *hate* it...it has no excitement, whatsoever. My daughter is a reading nut and my son is a math whiz. I'm wondering if I should give this a try and see what happens...but, I don't think I would drop Saxon altogether. Have most of you abandoned other Math and solely used LoF?
  18. not too difficult at all!
  19. looking for suggestions for a curricula that is very hands-on and fun for a co-op class with about 5 younger elementary boys. Thinking lego building, construction, and...uhhh...yeah, that's why I need help. I'm already planning to do SOTW for one session...I need help with the other. TIA..
  20. Matthew 23:23 23"(A)Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others. So, we focus on the *weightier provisions* without neglecting the tithe. Romans 6: 14 ....we are not under law but under grace. And we do not see this as a law to obey but a means of grace. "without neglecting the others" Jesus is saying we should still tithe, but to do it with justice, mercy and faith. Thank you for clarifying this for me Liza...;)
  21. Then you're not "tithing", rather you are giving "offerings". Since "tithe" means a tenth...you can't say, "I don't tithe 10%." Jesus said that yes you should tithe in Matthew 23:23, but to not forget to show mercy and love while you're at it. Also, the book of Hebrews 7 talks about tithing...Abraham was the first to tithe to Melchizedek. Notice that this action took place *before* the law was given. And Jesus is our High Priest after the order of Melchizedek. So even though, NT Christians are not under OT law, the act of tithing is outside the law all together. I see it more as a standard to allow God access into my treasure (where your treasure is, there your heart is also). The tithe is a minimum, everything else is considered an offering. It's a percentage set by God through Abraham, when His promises were just being realized by mankind. And look at the blessing of Abraham fulfilled! In Malachi, God says TRY ME in this and let me prove that I'll open the windows of Heaven and pour out a blessing that you can not contain!:)
  22. it was a great movie...me and mine really enjoyed it. However, it may not be gentle enough for your daughter. There are some mean dogs and a definite bad guy who ends up falling out of the sky after trying to kill the main characters. Not to mention that the old man's wife dies fairly early on, but the movie does a great job of making the viewer fall in love with her from the start....so that part is kinda sad. I wouldn't spend the money to go to the theater, maybe rent the dvd later...because it really is a GREAT movie!
  23. We went last year and thoroughly enjoyed it! The new rope climbing thing was a blast and some of "us" overcame our fear of heights. They have live demo's of glass blowing and a living museum setting...not to mention the giant Stone Mountain and the laser show. Worth the short jaunt outside the city.
