  1. well, I might be too late to help..you might have already gone and returned from your trip. But, I was searching good audio books and found your post. My kids (ages 7, 10, 12) and I enjoyed the "Gooney Bird Greene" by Lois Lowry series..she's a second grader, but has a wonderful little attitude about her. And the vocabulary in these books are fabulous! Another good one was "Trumpet of the Swan" by EB White. It was so much better to hear the story on CD because you actually get to hear the trumpet, instead of reading the trumpet sounds. :) Lastly, on one of our vacations we listened to "From the mixed-up files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" by EL Konigsburg...very entertaining for all of us, including hubby! Hope that helps...:auto:
  2. Thank You, Thank You! It's good to know that the Handy Dandy Sheet is still handy and dandy :)
  3. Where do I find the corrections to the answer key. I have heard mention that there are several errors in the answer key. I think I've finally reached that point...or else, I'm majorly lost! I'm at lesson 13..exercise 13.2 seems to be wrong in the key. Can anyone confirm this for me or direct me to the place where I can find the corrections? Thanks!
  4. What part of FL are you? I'm in Jax and my kids are praying for snow flurries today...but I'm hearing doubtful comments.
  5. Jeremiah 29:11 (New International Version) 11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." This mountain is not too big for God...with Him all things are possible. Praying for you and Patrick...
  6. what does that mean? "artificial twin" or "twinning" ..is that adopting a child the same age as your bio child? and when referring to "out of birth order" what does that mean? I was just looking over adoption and thought sticking kids right in the middle of my kids' ages would be a good way. I have 12, 10 and 6.
  7. wow...I had forgotten (until I just read it) that I did the same thing when I was pregnant. In fact, before I knew I was pregnant with the 2nd, I remember having that deep belly laugh and thought to myself..I wonder if I'm pregnant. sure enough... It is a beautiful sound and feeling, isn't it!!!
  8. maybe too easy, but my daughter loved "Series of Unfortunate Events" when she was in 4th grade and more recently, a Christian fantasy series called..."Dragons in our Midst" (which is considerably more lengthy reading than the first title).
  9. I like Asher, too...and I'm pretty sure it means "happy"!:)
  10. for your responses. I really like the rhetoric and debate idea, along with the interaction and discussion setting. I'm already going along a similar academic track as what is offered by CC. It's the social setting with the common academia that I desire most. Guess that's why I'm thinking it could be copied without the enormous expense. As stated, though, the level of excellence depends on the attitude and intent of the children involved. As big as my city is, I know of only 4 or 5 academic co-ops. I've never been a part of any of them...maybe I should just bite the bullet and join one, rather than starting my own.
  11. I love the total concept of this program, but WHY is it sooo expensive? Those of you who participate in Classical Conversations...can you tell me some pros/cons? Would it be possible to emulate the Challenge program without the $1000 tuition? And any suggestions or need-to-know information for beginning a co-op?
  12. I used it with my daughter last year. The kit I bought included a parent guide, a passport/journal/workbook for the child and the audio CD's. I didn't know they had a DVD. But the CD's worked out well, because we listened in the car as we traveled to our get away destination and then used a CD player for the lessons in the room. I highly recommend the program...it was a great memory!
  13. I just have to say "Thank you" for categorizing this book as "non-twaddle" ...it was this series that really turned my daughter "on" to reading.
  14. http://www.wartoft.nu/software/seterra/ you can download Seterra for free. My kids have learned all the states and capitals with this program.
  15. Any ideas? websites or book suggestions? the less expensive, the better... thanks! :bigear:
  16. LOVE IT Michelle! ....How cool for her to be able to find a niche early in life.
  17. Thank you all so much! I figured out the music thing...what a difference! I love it...and the best part...FREEEEEE!! woohoo!! http://snideracademy.blogspot.com/
  18. extra strength tylenol and diapers...the banana bread sounds good too...:)
  19. Thank you guys! Hopefully it's not complicated, the words "VERY simple" sound so reassuring! Laurie...sorry, I can't answer that...BUT, I'm right there with you. I have a bunch of pic's and videos that I don't know how to move from my phone to my computer. I even have a memory card in my phone storing them all, but my computer doesn't have a place to stick the card.
  20. backgrounds for your blog page? I only see the ones on the blogspot setup page. How do I customize? Help...I wanna be cool too!
  21. Now "misspelling" is a whole other thing...I agree! I often accuse my mom of misspelling my name at birth. LOL... it's because she expected a boy and had planned on naming him "Dean", so to make it feminine, she figured just add an "a". So, it's pronounced "DEEEnuh" not "DeAnna". You're right though, what I think is the most logical spelling, certainly doesn't mean it's the same logic as everyone else.
  22. Like the OP.. I was a very timid child and frequently had my name mispronounced and unless my mother heard it, I just dealt with it. In college I met a friend with the same name and spelling and she was VERY outspoken when the professor continually mispronounced our names. HA! And then there was the time when I had my wisdom teeth pulled and had anesthesia. Just as I was about in la-la land, I heard the dentist say my name wrong...for some reason, all of a sudden, I had the boldness to correct him. I intentionally spelt my children's names as simply as possible so that they wouldn't have to deal w/the same issue.
  23. Teach your child to read in 100 Easy Lessons worked for my 3 yr old. She finished her 100th lesson on her 4th birthday...what an accomplishment! Check it out from the library before buying and look it over. It's only $15 to purchase and it works...I have 3 children who've learned to read with this book. Doesn't hurt to try, especially if it's free!
  24. Magic Tree House (Osborne) series was a favorite of my 8/9 ds.
