  1. :iagree: I really do get irritated (and fingers itch) when someone posts asking for advice.....and then gets upset with the responses they get back!! Everyone does have a right to their own opinion-especially when it was asked for! It does not mean the poster has to agree with the advice given--but they should be courteous to the person that took the time to respond to their post!;)
  2. " She was on the Today show this morning talking about Jon taking $230,000 out of their joint account and leaving her with $1000." Why, oh why would ANYONE want to share this information with the public?? I don't even think I would share this info with my closest friend! ACKKK!! I don't know why this family thinks we care about every single problem they have??! If he did this and she did that then they need to deal with each other--not go on tv and tell everyone??!! I just don't understand their thinking process??
  3. I have felt one at the back of my throat all day and it is driving me nuts!! I am happy to learn that there is a name for these foreign objects--after all these years I thought this only happened to me!! :smilielol5:I learn so much from this site!!
  4. It is raining acorns in my neck of the woods in Minnesota also! We went with some friends to an outdoors art event over the weekend and acorns were falling everywhere! Our friend unfortunately got hit square on the head by one and her head hurt for the rest of the day! Ds was busy collecting as many as his pockets would hold---even though we have our own at home...:w00t: I am hoping the wind would die down--I don't want the leaves blowing off quite yet-they are just starting to look beautiful with the array of colors!!
  5. I was a little hesitant and decided to purchase just one book to see how we liked it. We just completed Pagoo and we LOVED it and ds learned so much!! I even learned a ton!! :tongue_smilie:My ds enjoyed this book immensely and likes to read it over and over again.....which is not like him at all. We are definitely hooked!
  6. Oh, thank you so much for this info!!!!! That is wonderful!!! I just hope that if he uses pen, that he does not feel the need to be even more perfect?? I honestly don't why the huge change -- I have never made any negative remarks about his penmanship. My sister says neither of her 2 ds care at all if their writing is sloppy and thinks I should be happy--which I am!!! I just don't know how to tell him that EVERYTHING he writes does not need to be perfect all the time! I will try having him use a pen for his "rough draft" for spelling practice, journaling, etc....math it won't work. Thanks so much for the info! :001_smile:
  7. Ds went through some sort of change since last school year.....I know it is a good change but it is driving me batty since school is taking sooooooo loooonnnnnnnggggggggg......... This year he has decided that he wants to write PERFECTLY and if it is not perfect, he will erase and write over and erase and write over.....and this is just on practice spelling words!!! Please don't get me wrong--I am HAPPY that he has decided to take pride in his penmanship and I don't want to discourage him ----but have I mentioned that this is making our day sooooooooooo much longer. He does this in math with his numbers also. Yesterday, I wanted him to do his art AND listen to me read a chapter on the animals in Africa at the same time. This was an attempt to make up some time.....he said he did not want to listen to it--he only wanted to concentrate on his art--he erased and erased and erased when he was drawing his camel....Why oh why do I feel like I need to rush him?? Isn't that why I have him home so he can take his time and do it his own way??!!! ACKKKK!!! Hopefully just venting will help! Thanks for listening!:001_smile:
  8. We got ours because of my husband's bad back-he had surgery on his back in the early 90's. I don't like it, but we did not buy it for me. Husband thought it helped his back at first. We have had it for almost 2 years and he says he no longer gets the good nights sleep like he did for the first couple of months. He also thinks it is too firm.
  9. Our ds was in karate class at the local school through comm ed and a mother approached me and asked me if I homeschooled my ds?? I was shocked, bewildered--because we did not homeschool at that time--(I had often dreamed about having the courage to try someday);). ..anyways, she said that she homeschooled and that she often can "spot" other homeschooled children because they are so well behaved and the parents are so involved with their children! I thanked her profusely for the compliment--I started asking her questions about homeschooling and told her of my dream. She told me that she knew I could do it!! A few months later we pulled ds from ps and now we are proudly homeschooling!
  10. We wanted to adopt a german shepherd from a rescue and we were turned down because our entire 160 acres was not fenced!!! Nevermind that we own a DOG TRAINING kennel and dh has been training various breeds in protection, all breed obedience and also hunting dogs as a professional for over 25 years!! We called another rescue and they would not even come meet with us because they do not deal with people in our area code!! We plodded on determined to rescue a gs......next one turned us down because our oldest ds is visually impaired!!! grrrrrrrrrrr!! We finally found a lady that has her own private rescue that lives over 300 miles from us--we met her halfway and were able to adopt our loyal and loving Zoey! Zoey needed a new home because her family could not handle her "energy"!! Zoey is laying at my feet as I type this and is a spoiled furry family companion that has provided us with a ton of laughs, love, kisses and who is our youngest ds phy ed/recess companion and together they wear each other out!! Keep trying and good luck!!
  11. Would you share how long you've been homeschooling? Pulled ds from PS one week into school year -last year. What did you use that first year? SOS, library books and SL later in the year. What was your approach the first year? School at home since that is all I knew-scared to death that I was going to "ruin" ds!! What are you using this year? A variety of fun stuff! Apologia, SOTW, MOH, Horizons, library books, Geo Deo, Atelier....little pieces of this and that! Has your approach changed? Since I did not ruin ds last year.....I am more confident this year to have fun learning from everything we can get our hands on! What stands out as helping you find your groove? From other homeschoolers via this forum and their blogs! I am so thankful for all you homeschoolers that share your infinite wisdom and tell it like it is--sharing both the good and the bad!!!:grouphug:
  12. Oh my goodness, my son was just said something similar the other day!! He mentioned in a conversation that when he has kids and his kids are homeschooled............that was SO exciting to hear, I almost cried!! This will be our 2nd year of hs after 4yrs of ps. He was not as enthusiastic when we first started our hs adventure last year.....I was taking him out of his norm and he did not know what to expect-he was quite upset and angry... Now he asks me all the time why his friends are not homeschooled that he thinks that they would love it too! Blessings to all! Michelle
  13. This past year was our first year homeschooling our youngest. We pretty much followed the ps calendar just because we were afraid to do anything else. Now that we have a year under our belt we feel more comfortable to set our own schedule and we are still in the midst of discussions to see what will work for us. I am leaning towards 6-7 wks on and 1 wk off. We will see!
  14. :iagree: This was my first year homeschooling and I am glad to know that there is a term for the method of my madness!!! I breathe a sigh of relief to know that others have gone before me.....:tongue_smilie:
  15. We are living "up north"-about 1/2 hour south of Mille Lacs Lake. We own a dog training/boarding kennel and so are kept busy with all the canines and homeschooling our 9yo ds. This was our first year homeschooling and we regret not making this decision a lot earlier!! Both hubby and I operate the dog business so we are both available to teach and it was just a TON of fun! It was so exciting when ds would learn something new and just had to step out the door to tell Dad about his learning experience! Glad I found this site it is so informative!!
  16. I cannot believe how much the Furminator can take off of our golden!! So getting one of those is a must!! We also give our golden an oral supplement --we give him the supplement for other reasons but it is supposed to help eliminate SOME of the shedding--which we think it does do and it makes his coat oh so much softer... All dogs are going to shed but some do it in abundance!! Adding oil to the food also helps keep the coat in good condition. HTH, Michelle
