  1. My sister drove from Charleston to Atlanta to meet up with our mom and me because we were going to a museum exhibit in Nashville (or was it Memphis -- so long ago I can't remember). At some point we stopped for gas and I said something to my sister about how much I was looking forward to the Genghis Khan exhibit. She was shocked. She thought we were going to a King Tut exhibit because that's what my mom had told her. We still laugh about it. When my dc were younger, my dad worked in D.C. a lot. So, my mom and I would often put the kids in the car and head up there to sightsee for weeks. It seems we always arrived around midnight and there are traffic jams there all the time so we got stuck in those. Then, heading to my dad's location, there was a tricky set of ramps where you had to go to the left, right, left, left (or something similar), but it was always dark with poor lighting and signage so I always zigged when I should have zagged and we would end up in the wrong place (which was circling the Lincoln Memorial). I did it so many times over the years that we all looked forward to our midnight viewing of the Lincoln Memorial. Lol. There have been various other road adventures but those two were the fun ones that make me laugh.
  2. Blackberry, mixed berries, red currant, lingonberry. I tried salmonberry for the first time this summer & it was good too.
  3. I live where it is hot, so I don't like the scarves to be tight around my neck (unless it is winter). In summer, if I have a square, gauzy scarf, I fold it in half to get a triangle, then tie a tiny knot with the very ends & just put it over my head like you would with a long necklace (with the knot in back). The end result looks similar to this. Or this. For smaller, square scarves, this or this. If I have a necklace that coordinates, I'll wear that too. (In fact, my avatar is a photo of one of my favorite scarves.) If you don't want to wear them, they can be cute knotted into a belt loop or even on a purse strap/handle. (I have a Halloween scarf I love & I always knot it around my purse strap in October. It's very fun.)
  4. I wear them almost all the time for work (business casual). I will often pair a necklace with it. I don't know if they are in style or not but I love them and often get compliments on my outfits &/or scarves. (One I love wearing is a bright geometric print one that belonged to my grandmother. She wore it back in the '80s.)
  5. Can you request natural fabrics for the clothing from StitchFix? Or at least that the items be mostly cotton or mostly wool? (Not a huge fan of linen because it wrinkles too much.) Or are most of the things received poly-, nylon, or other synthetic blends?
  6. Well, based on the comments, I was actually expecting it to be worse than it looks. It would be a great place to run & slide in socks... (until you fell). I hope there's no porous limestone under this house. If a sinkhole forms, this one will be a long way down because of the weight of the house itself. Seriously, how much does all that stone & marble weigh???
  7. Happy Birthday, creekland! Glad to hear you also enjoyed The Glass Castle. It seems that so many families have dysfunction, I would think it would resonate with many. I guess that was why I was surprised that one of the people I was with was not moved to tears, but more to anger. But, I can understand that response too, especially in light of some of the topics.
  8. No. Just no. I'm guessing it's a control thing. If you call back, he knows he's in control even this many years after the fact. And that is a slippery slope... (see Ethel Mertz' suggestion re: calling a domestic violence hotline).
