  1. This. Other people assume your choices are a slam against their choices. I avoid conversations about education, kids' sports, vaccinations, food choices.
  2. I didn't know this either.
  3. I'm around this same age, and I very much remember kids in high school using this gesture.
  4. I also live in the SE, and there is no distinction between shower gifts and wedding gifts. They are ALL wedding gifts. Some people give their gift at a shower and some people give their gift at the wedding.
  5. I was disappointed that the Minions were bad and looking for an evil leader to follow.
  6. So the skip progression really works like this....1,1,3,3,5,5,7,7? Maybe I do buy level 3 and use it for 2 years.
  7. I ran into this even in Level 1. It was challenging for my son to write a seven sentence paragraph. So, he didn't do every writing assignment in Shurley. He used WWE 1 instead.
  8. This is it http://www.mardel.com/asimpleplan I chose it over Plum Paper because it costs much less. Plum Paper is very nice. It has a very strong coil and lots of add-ons. It is on the expensive side, though.
  9. I'm sorry I wasn't very clear...Simple Plan is actually by Mardel not Plum Paper.
  10. I purchased level 4, 7, and 8 along with the TG for my rising 2nd grader. I'm not 100% sure I want to completely drop phonics yet because, although my son is a good reader, he does still need some work on multisyllabic words. Hopefully, ETC will be helpful and not very time consuming. So, maybe pick two or three levels. I definitely don't think it would hurt.
  11. I would share with an elderly man, but just some middle aged man...nope.
  12. Roasted potatoes, roasted broccoli, roasted carrots
  13. So many good comments in this thread. I personally would keep their reading time SHORT. Maybe start with 7 minutes and slowly work up. Even though quality books are ideal, let them read some twaddle. My son enjoys reading SpongeBob Books and Pokemon Books (yikes!). Keep reading aloud to them.
  14. DS 7 completed Shurley 1 this school year easily. He likes Shurley and wants to continue with it. Shurley 2 does not seem to add much new information, but skipping to Shurley 3 seems like a big jump. I asked my son would he rather review more and learn a few news things in Shurley 2 or would he rather review less and learn more new information in Shurley 3. He chose Shurley 3. Is this a good idea or bad idea?
  15. I think he will go through AAS 1 quickly. AAS 2 (and beyond) is where he needs the work. Anyway, a good friend is selling me her used 1 and 2, which definitely helps money-wise.
  16. I knew you ladies would be helpful â¤ï¸
  17. So, I just showed my son Spelling You See, Spelling Power, and All About Spelling at CBD and explained how each one worked. He chose AAS "without the tiles." Looking at the website, it seems I should just put him in Level 1, but Level 1 seems a bit easy for him. Is there a way to go through the lessons more quickly?
  18. Please tell me you bought the whale one....it's so cute
  19. Are all your kids visual learners? I wonder if this would work for an auditory kid.
