  1. Grilled chicken, rolled up turkey, string cheese, apple slices
  2. I was going to voice the same thing. Is it necessary for him to be dressed by breakfast? Why can't it wait til lunch time? I have morning loungers. They like to have time to "wake up" before getting dressed, eating, schoolwork.
  3. I eat LCHF-Paleoish, which means I mainly eat meat and veggies, no grains or fruit. I do have limited dairy in the form of cheese, yogurt, and half-half. Congrats on cutting artificial sweeteners! It is in everything it seems.
  4. How about an in-home sitter for the elderly? ETA: I'm sure there is a professional name for this, but cannot think of it at the moment.
  5. Thank you for taking the time to type this all out. I'm going to screen shot and see what I can find at our library. So, thank you! On a funny note, I told my son we were going to be studying geography 1x per week, and he asked if he could do all his subjects 1x per week.
  6. The first book is definitely appropriate for a first grader, and we really enjoyed the worksheets because they were more hands on, interactive type pages.
  7. So, I've decided to reduce Geography to 1x per week and go a little more in depth at the time. Here's my thoughts... Read the story Sing memory song while looking at the map Look at the globe Read from Children's Atlas of God's World, Children Just Like Me, and Animal Atlas Pick one or two worksheets to discuss orally I would consider switching curriculums if you had any suggestions.
  8. We are traveling to totality. We have glasses and pinhole viewers, and we will also try to project with binoculars. In true homeschooling fashion, I am going to ask my kids to document the local time and draw a picture. We are packing a portable grill to cook hamburgers. We will also play baseball and soccer. It's going to be a fun day outside.
  9. We used VP L&L Primer last school year and loved it. So, I just knew that continuing with the North, South, East, West books would be a great hit. However, I'm finding it a bit boring. Here's how I currently schedule it... Day 1...Read chapter in book, work on a worksheet or two Day 2...finish up any worksheets related to the chapter in the book The issues. It's not very engaging, and the story line is chopped up. Throw some ideas at me.
  10. I can, my children cannot. They are both healthy but seem to have tight hamstrings.
  11. Has anyone suggested NORA for a girl?
  12. I'm so tired of reading about eclipse glasses, but I am excited about the eclipse and our eclipse field trip. When I was a kid, my private school had a spend the night for us all to view Haley's Comet. I remember the excitement surrounding it all. I guess I want my kids to experience that excitement, too.
  13. I read this as What's your Favorite *Monkey* Tracking App...
  14. I would not put a child in a keto diet (LCHF). Paleo allows for more foods than Keto...like fruit, sweet potatoes, honey. I REALLY like Danielle Walker's cookbooks...especially meals made simple.
  15. I have a couple of friends who sell different products, and they are not pushy at all. They are kind of like, "Hey, I sell this, if you are ever interested," and they leave it at that. Then, I have other friends that sell a product, and it is ALL THEY EVER TALK ABOUT. I feel like I cant even talk to them without being hit up to buy their product. It doesn't even feel like a friendship anymore. I think my biggest pet peeve is being added to FB groups for these products without being asked to join. Just suddenly I'm in some group for clothes, make up, books. I have to remove myself from these groups, which sometimes causes hurt feelings. Just my vent. I know it doesn't have much to do with the article.
  16. I second Vera Bradley. They are light weight and sturdy. I've even washed mine in the washing machine (remove the stiff bottom before washing). I have a couple of different sizes and patterns. One way to save money, if you don't care about the pattern, is to shop the patterns that are being discontinued.
  17. This list is going to depress me as the reality of how much time we spend in the car sets in. TKD 2x per week 20 minutes each way Soccer 2x per week 30 minutes each way Church 3x per week 30 minutes each way Tutorial 1x per week 35 minutes each way We even cut back this year by dropping a second tutorial day and scouts. 30 minutes is about the max I would drive for activities, unless my children were insanely passionate about an activity or unbelievably talented in something.
  18. If you plan on looking up at the sun, then yes, you need eclipse glasses.
  19. Eventually, I plan to add in more carbs from whole food (sweet potatoes, fruit), but I never want to go back to craving junky carbs and sugar. I feel good on LCHF and it is VERY easy for me to maintain. I don't have an ethical issue with eating meat, but occasionally (often) the texture gets me. So, I go through phases where I eat a lot of eggs. I wish I had some good ideas for you. My only suggestion would be to invest in a vegetarian cookbook. ETA: I'm assuming you are eating a whole foods, clean diet on LCHF. So as you transition, DO NOT add in processed foods. Don't have the attitude, "Oh I'm a vegetarian, I'm going to eat all these chips and crackers." Just don't even go there. I really believe that processed food are a slippery slope and contribute to all the cravings.
  20. I haven't read through all the responses, but I am LCHF, which naturally helps me restrict calories because I just don't feel hungry. However, I was reading an article (something along the lines of "Does the keto diet work") and the general idea was...Yes, it works, but any calorie restricted diet will work. From what I understand, though, you will gain water weight as you add carbs back in. FWIW. I have lost about 10 lbs, I have 30-40 left to go. I am not a nutritionist and just trying to figure out how to shed some weight.
  21. I love Kindergarten, too! They do say the funniest and sweetest things.
