DD is currently in singapore 1b and we are really enjoying it! She's an avid reader and so I was thinking 'hey, why not get her some fun math readers'. I would like books on basic math concepts. Adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and fractions.

She's 6 but is an advanced reader...what are your fun rec.'s??? I don't want anything with the character's being bored with math or other negative feelings (I just got one book for her that has the boy hating math...not what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

Mathemagic, one of the Childcraft volumes, is a favorite in this house

Math for Smarty Pants, by Marilyn Burns (and anything else by her; one of hers is called The I Hate Mathematics Book, but it is good too) -- I loved these when I was a kid!

Murderous Maths series, especially Arithmetricks

One Grain of Rice by Demi

David Schwartz books about large numbers (How Much is a Million, etc)

Anno's books are also fun

Books by Johnny Ball and Theoni Pappas, and Sideways Arithmetic from Wayside School, maybe in a year

Phantom Tollbooth, Alice in Wonderland, and The Number Devil are also good ones to consider

The only ones I didn't see mentioned that we've liked are the ones published by Charlesbridge - especially the Sir Cumference books.

Oh, and my kids really liked the Animal Babies Math books, which are cute. They're half nonfiction about animals and half about math.

Oh, and You Can Count on Monsters is really cool for teaching prime numbers. No story really, just a cool design thing.

Theoni Pappas-

The adventures of Penrose the mathematical Cat

Fractals, googols and other mathematical tales

Ben Franklin and the magic squares

Math for smarty pants by Marilyn Burns

Number Devil

Murderous Math, the whole series is excellent. DD especially loves Numbers, the key to the universe.

Mine have loved several of these books as well. (**) Some we haven't tried yet.

Not exactly like the books mentioned above, but my dd is really enjoying Math Lessons for a Living Education. At present there are 4 levels.

I have been dying to try these books out but I'm kind of scared to take a gamble on a $40 comsumable math book.

More books to add....

Even Steven and Odd Todd

Measuring Penny

The Doorbell Rang

If you made a million

How much is a million?

How much is a googal?

A Remainder of One

How Big is a Foot?

Pigs will be Pigs
