Leah
I am charged with picking a new biography/autobiography for our ladies' book club. I am really stumped here. Any ideas? We are a group of Christians, but it doesn't have to be a Christian book. Thanks!
Stacia
Do you mean 'new' as in recently released or just new to your book club? If it doesn't have to be a particularly recent release, I found "Passionate Nomad: The Life of Freya Stark" by Jane Fletcher Geniesse to be fascinating. "The Glass Castle: A Memoir" by Jeanette Walls was also a great book to read.
Amira
I'm not a huge fan of biographies, but here are a few I've enjoyed (if you define biography a little loosely): Longitude by Dava Sobel Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World by Jack Weatherford West With the Night by Beryl Markham The Road from Coorain by Jill Ker Conway Memoirs of an Arabian Princess from Zanzibar by Emily Ruete
Kathleen in VA
My Heart in His Hands by Sharon L. James (biography of Ann Judson, wife of missionary Adoniram Judson) Evidence Not Seen by Darlene Deibler Rose (missionary who was interred in a Japanese POW camp during WWII) Both of these books are available at amazon for less that $15 brand new. They are real faith builders and will encourage your heart when you are facing difficult times.
Leah
These are some great ideas! It doesn't actually have to be a newly written biography, and I appreciate the variety of books suggested. Thanks for helping me out, and if there are any more ideas, feel free to post them.
Kim in Appalachia
The Life of Lilias Trotter, by Miriam Rockness. She is the inspiration for the hymn, "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus".
Laurie
I really enjoyed My Life in France (Julia Child/Alex Prud'Homme).
JumpedIntoTheDeepEndFirst
How about historical biographies by Carolly Erickson?
Rosie_0801
Marie Curie is my fave. :) Rosie
Michelle in GA
How about A Tree Grows in Brooklyn? It is a semi-autobiographical book of Betty Smith. So is the Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath...but, that is the most depressing book I have ever read..maybe not good for a book club.
Heidi @ Mt Hope
This is on my to-read list this year. My sister really enjoyed it. I also read Katherine Hepburn's autobiography last year and thought it was fascinating.
