LunaLee
I'm so scared right now and I don't scare easily. I am very worried ... DD has been having brown discharge from her areola and breast/armpit pain for about a week now. I'm a wait and see kinda person, but since it's persisted I called an ob/gyn for an appointment and they want to see her this afternoon. I've worked in enough dr's offices to know, things...when they put you on hold immediatly, and there's a catch in the voice and wanting to schedule same day...they definately feel there is some urgency.I can't imagine what this could be, but I'm a little freaked out right now. So if you guys could just send some good thoughts her way right now, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Osmosis Mom
Dd was, what, 13 1/2. We also went to the ob/gyn and had several ultrasounds. Dd had same kind of discharge and felt a lump (yes, I was freaked out big time as were doctors involved). The whole thing subsided on its own, suggesting it was a water-lump kind of thing that is mostly unknown. When she did the final ultrasound then it was determined the lump had seized in size. I can't recall for sure, but I think she was given antibiotics, just because they thought it could be an infection. Basically they didn't really know what was going on, but it went away! Oh yeah, the ob/gyn had suggested that if the lump was still there by the end of was it a 2 week antibiotic treatment, then she would send dd odd to another specialist who'd puncture the cyst. So our dilemma back then was how she'd go see a male doctor. Everyone was extremely kind to her in the process, though, and she really did not get traumatized or humiliated (her being a growing girl etc.). Feel free to email me personally if you want further info. Take it easy. It's most likely nothing.
Jean in Newcastle
I had this happen to myself 2 years ago. They got me in the same day, too. And I agree it is really scary when they do that. Mine turned out to be an infection also. I'm praying that everything is ok for your dd. It can take awhile sometimes to figure out what it is (it took them 6 months of going to one specialist after another for me) but it is good that they take things seriously and check things out. :grouphug:
Lolly
My eldest did this as well. She didn't really have pain, just tenderness and brownish discharge. A round of antibiotics cleared it up. Most likely it is just an infection. Dr. said it could just be hormonal too. Praying for you both.

LunaLee
Thank you so much everyone. We are back from the doctors-they took a culture to see if was an infection and sent her for some blood work. The NP thinks it could be hormonal so they are checking her pituitary and her thyroid. I'll be sure to update when we know more and thanks again.
